My personal opinnion is that addons are not needed and there should not be any. Simple reason. If you buy desk game. Will you cut your own chess figures to fit what you like? Will you somehow magicaly manage to highlight places on chess board on which you can make your move? I think not. Game is a game with its rules etc. No matter if it is video game or desk game.

If I look back at wow and its addons... Tragic story to a good game. Those elite addon users kick "noobs" from dungs, raids. No they will not help them with knowledge they will just kick them... In PvP? You will get facerolled by hardcore addon users. What I saw many times in arena is like facing GODs. I can hardly see a person that IS able to fight one guy and constantly look after his parther. I mean he is killing my mate I use some spell and this dude changes target to me dispell me and is back on my mate again in less than 1 second. Tell me is human being able to watch 2 things with 100% focus? Maybe he can. But targeting casting and going back to original target in less than second? No way. I am in gaming like for 20 years now and if players are able to this these days then we have gaming GODs born. Funny thing thing is that in old games I used to be in top 10% in multiplayer games. So I ask myself. Did I grew too old and my reaction time and aim is absolutely gone or is there something else behind it?

So for me I do not want any add ons. I want people to play the game and have a good time. Help each other and care very little for being the best in the game. There will always be someone who will best you.

So far it seems it may work.

I like certain addons, since they can share a more detailed perspective of what your own performance actually is, but I draw the line when it becomes a measuring stick.

I would like to have a mini map point everything like crafts, questing and other sorts. Having to keep pressing M all the time trying to figure how where I need to go is annoying. Please add mini eso or addon. It'll make easier for me just to see the mini map on where I need to go. Please add it.

no. Its why I am here, I love the clean UI, once you get used to it its very freeing. and no dps meters make this game fun for most except meter watcher parsers/shamers/kickers/elitists

The only add on I use, so far, is Wykkyds framework, and that is just so I could have the little tool bar on top that just shows stuff from the character screen like exp, bag space, gold, rl time etc. It's just a convince so I don't have to go to another screen. For me, an add on or two that just tweak the UI a bit is all I want. I like immersion so I try to balance that verses add on.

It all depends on if you're happy with the current state of the game or not.

To filter out the gold spammers in the chat window, that would be a nice add-on.

I can say, that dps parsers/etc., when used right, are a amazing tool for progression guilds, the problem is that most people base their opinions of them off of WoW. I've been playing MMOs for quite a while now, and have always seen them as a good thing, because it helps guilds improve their members. there's been quite a few times where a guild I've been in has had issues clearing content due to not enough dps/hps/etc., then we look at the parser, see who's doing what, and actually work with them to improve the group as a whole. One of the main issues people have with them is the elitists that DON'T work with people. is it the parser's fault? no. It's the fault of the guy that thinks everyone should be doing x dps on their first char, know the mechanics the first time through and be better than 90% of players. Trust me on this, I've seen people in games that didn't have parsers behave exactly the same way. you'll see it in this game eventually one way or another. gear score? you can get that simply by doing gear checks on people, with or without a add-on. dps? it's a bit harder without a addon/parser/etc, but you can tell who isn't pulling their weight if you watch people close enough, do the content enough times, and run with a static group.
However, things like Healbot, etc. which literally take the skill/work out of stuff.... are bad for any game. the issue that I personally have with anything like parsers/gearscore/etc. is that people in pug groups don't bother actually watching what the person is doing, and just kick him if his numbers are low, even if the reason his numbers are low aren't his fault. (gearscore not so much, but unless you're trying for some kind of achievement/time frame/etc. people need to learn to at least attempt stuff with undergeared people.)
    TL;DR it's not the add-on's fault, it's the community's.

Atomic you are right, but still I see ADD ONs as "guns" these don't kill people, but it helps right? I hope that Zenimax really allows only minor UI tweaks. Dps meter could make progress in raids more visible, but it unfortunately encourages boosting the damage over actual game experience and joy.

Sooner or later such addon will make people blind. They will do everything to get the highest possible output... I really feel this wrong. If people wish to see this I would rather see it in game as after dungeon report in mailbox. Those who are after numbers will be satisfied and kicking out weaker members would be prevented.

I subjest you forget about reccount... especialy since most player wont play pure dps in the first place it is a relatively poor concept in a game where tank dont tank and heals are basicaly a small hot. Player dont build for pure dps tanking or Healing they build to have a mix of all of these.

If reccount make it in... well you can delete all your dps char that arent nightblades from the game because NB was made to be able to outdps close to any other class by default (aka reaper mark and other heavy damage increasing ability)

A *** thing like a forced meta will only be the death of the build freedom Zenimax promoted since the start. NO ONE here want to go back to the *** set roles.

The only addon that may actualy ever be necesary will be Skype raidcall and ventrillo :disagree:

Addons are a must for me, but that's just because the default UI is crap, and was not optimized for PC (rather, it was made for consoles/controllers).

I wouldn't be so quick to compare to WoW, either. Even the the infamous ones like recount or gearscore are just tools and are not in-and-of-themselves bad in any way. But, like a table-saw, if the tool isn't used properly, bad things are bound to happen. Look at what Blizz has turned WoW into though... the gameplay is incredibly easy, the content is basically Kung-Fu-Panda online with a touch of pokemon (pet battles) power rangers (which some of the newer mounts look like they're straight out of) etc.; poop jokes and childish humor EVERYWHERE... it's become a little kid's game... their target audience has got to be in the 6-to-8 year old range at this point - would you let an 8 y/o use a table saw? Not that everyone who plays WoW is a little kid, but they've sure got an abundance of them... it's not really a surprise that they can't figure out how to (or worse, refuse to) use things like Recount correctly.

ESO's target audience is completely different from WoW's. 90% of the WoW kids would probably last about 30 minutes in ESO before they got bored and quit due to a lack of cutesy-stuffed-animal-like-character, fart jokes, and armor that makes an effective metaphor for an LSD trip.

Between reasonable API limitations and a target audience mature enough to not do things like use a power saw to trim their fingernails, I think ESO can handle mods/addons just fine.

At least one addon is practically required, and that's the spam filter, because ZOS can't keep the gold sellers under control.

I use lootdrop and one that keeps my xp bar fixed onscreen. I'd never even heard of add-ons before though.
