Lore Question: What exactly is Stalhrim and what is its significance?

We encountered Stalhrim in both Bloodmoon and in Dragoborn DLC's for Morrowind and Skyrim respectively. It is interesting to note that in this isle of Solstheim we find one of the oldest Nord cultures still in existence and the least touched by 'modern' cults and cultures. This seemingly includes dragon cults, animist cults, and the Imperial cults. My question about these Nords is based upon the issue of Stalhrim. In the lore Nords are near-immune to frost and resistant to lightning. They are the product of Kyne and Shor and come from the frosty land of Atmora to the north. In Solstheim we learn that old Nordic burial gravesites are sealed in Stahlrim. The ancients crafted armor from permanent enchanted frost. What is the significance of this and does this relate to Nord being the children of Kyne? I wonder if anyone has greater understanding on the significance of Stalhrim, Nords, Kyne and Shor as they relate to one another. I appreciate a response from those with interesting insights. =D

Stahlrim was used to entomb those Nords who could not be returned to Skyrim during their war with Morrowind (during the fall of the Nordic Empire IIRC).

To preserve their bodies and keep them secure, the Nords of old created Stahlrim, and enchanted it, to ensure none of their kin would get damaged over time, or something along those lines.

So this would be your suggestion that when Wulfharth the Underking was blasted into ash and the Nord armies fled back home, some stopped at Stalhrim? This is interesting and certainly points to an era of brighter knowledge even among Nords (even as the old Ayleids were masters of Varla stones and such).
