From the testing I did, magelight (and morphs) only reveal stealthed players when cast. That's it. The 6 second duration is completely meaningless.
So if you pop it and then just walk around waiting for it to reveal players, then it won't work. If you think of it as a 12m insta cast antistealth AoE, then it's much more effective.

It only briefly breaks your stealth, you go right back into stealth afterward.
Obviously it works much better if you are nightblade and can both cast cloak and then move fast while stealthed/cloaked.

Before it never broke stealth at all before. If you're anything but a NB why would you want to reveal your location at all?

It's been a long time since it was viable anti-stealth mechanic
Now you should try a PbAoE or WoE
Edit: the only tell there is for someone sneaking around you is that the music goes into combat music. I dunno if Miats still does anything or not, I'm console so I never had access to such cheesey add ons

It doesn't stop them from cloaking, it reveals them a second after they cloak and they get this glowing ball over their head, they will only run from you while they have this and they're probably faster than you. They will instantly recloak once that is gone because all nb's have infinite magicka, and you have to be in melee range of them when that happens to decloak them again or they're gone. Or more likely, right behind you with max stam/hp waiting for the right moment to kill you in 2 secs.
Most stamblades have about 600 magicka regen.
Shadowy disguise costs roughly 3500 magicka and last 2.9 seconds.
The highest magicka pool you will generally see is going to be 11-12k magicka.
Math says that's 3 shadowy disguises before they are out of magicka.

I think this is a little faulty, but going with that logic you have to consider the Argonian bandwagon. Pop one tri-stat potion and you're basically back to full magicka and can cast 3 more shadowy disguises, plus all the magicka regen that happened in that time-frame so 1-2 more.

This, I've been on top of someone cloaked and it still doesn't work. I know I'm on top of them because I can see my DOT tick (it says "missed" of course).
You usually see 'missed' at their last position known to your client, not at their current position.
Mage Light in no way stops the stealthing again in 3 seconds right now.
Is that 100% still the tooltip as I read that from UESP. Its like 1 second
