Contact Zenimax support. They're pretty good with such matters. There's obviously a valid explanation.

It's most likely a charge to make sure the card is valid. Get with customer support if it bothers you and get a refund.
  • shimmyatwa_ESO
waiting on a response now....don't understand what would make it valid though...preordered the game. so I should get the first 30 days free, no?

Most likely you do get the free 30 days, the initial charge would pay for an extra 30 days OR is just a charge to check the validity of the card and will refunded at some point. I'd just wait for a response from CS and tell us here what happened.

well it said I wouldn't be charged until may 4th, so hopefully it is just to check the card, but usually they only charge $1 for that.

Most companies just temporarily charge $1 to check if your card is valid, not sure why $14.99 is necessary, most people will undoubtedly freak out like i did this morning. I haven't decided if this game is worthy of my subscription yet. Either way, it's only pending in my bank account, so its only on hold, hopefully they don't charge me.

Could just be a bug in their system as well. Are you sure the money has been taken out or is just a pre authorization to be taken out? If it's a pre-auth it will probably be dropped from your statement.

right now its pending, so we shall see

I see so many posts about this I'm wondering if any of the posters are remotely adult. Any adult should already know [or anybody who's ever used a credit card even once for gas] that they always "hold" an amount to "verify" it's a valid CC that can handle future charges [in this case a monthly fee in 30 days]. It's also very important to avoid stolen credit cards being used etc. Every time I get gas I say fill it up and my credit card has 150 plus dollars held in escrow until the REAL charge goes through and then that balance is freed up. If you had a credit car with a 300 dollar balance and needed access to 200 dollars expenditure in 3 minutes after a fillup you'll run into a problem for 20 minutes or so.

In this case $14.99 is held for a few micro moments as a verification of validity. You'll see it as pending, just like I would if I got gas and saw 150 plus dollars pending when I know I only spent 80 on gas. It clears up in a few minutes.

Btw the gas thing doesn't happen if you specify a fillup amount. I do that if I don't want an amount above that to be held in escrow for even a moment.
