Yep. Either pay up or farm the most annoyingly painful grind for a motif yet.

    Its scummy. Are we surprised?

I said this in another thread but this is the most disgusting money-grab tactic they have drummed up yet. We can expect this for future motifs as well if it sells. And you know it will sell. So many people will either buy it or purchase crowns from someone else to get it. This is just the beginning.

Or buy it from other players. I support high crown prices on motifs that can be farmed in game. In fact I think the Welkynar motif should be 10000000000 crowns. And I’d be happy to sell you a few pages for gold

I understand why the motif locked behind some of the most difficult content in the game costs so much. What I don't understand is the horrible grind required to obtain it through in-game methods. This really looks like an obvious money grab, and I am not angry. I'm just... disappointed. I've been enjoying ESO for less than a year, but such practices are likely to turn people off the game. Disappointed.

    Edit: typos.

Not the first time they have charged 6k crowns for a motif, there was another one (forget which it was)

These are probably going to go for 300K to 500K per page in guild stores because of the grind involved.

I can farm the real life money for it faster (a lot faster) than the in game gold cost or by farming it directly from CR at this point.

So if we use the 1:200 crown to gold ratio,

The cost of buying a gifted motif is 1.2 million.

Meaning individual pages should sell for 85kish gold.

I dunno, but I'm expecting trials players to sell it for higher than that after the effort they are putting in to grind it.

I like how it is explicitly priced to where you have to buy more crowns than you need to buy it.

Can't cost 5k or 5.5k crowns, nope. Gotta be 6k

So. The most excessive grind for a motif yet..then paired with the highest Crown price seen for a motif.

You know what this reminds me of? F2P games. You can grind, or..whip out your wallet.

I've been a supporter since beta, and purchase cosmetics on top of my unlapsed subscription. HOWEVER. I am not a moron. I am very aware there has been an aggressive shift to push push push the Cash Shop. To an extent, I've been tolerant of that. What I can not excuse is tactics that F2P games use.

"It's a high price, but you don't have to buy it! It's available by in-game means!"
They instituted an eye-bleeding grind to incentivize you to take an easier route to get the motif. The high Crown price is two-fold:
    • ZOS can legitimize the argument simply by saying it's a luxury cosmetic item. You don't really need it, do you?
    • It is predatory, as they know that people want it. Collectors, completionists, master crafters..whomever.

I think it is important to call out bs. It is a well baked cake, intentionally designed to get you into the Cash Shop to fork over an exorbitant amount of Crowns.

One thing I have been noticing, is that gaming sites have been reporting on ZOS' monetization tactics. For the most part, it has been limited to loot boxes, and revolved around the ethics of gambling. I defended my game, saying what every fan says, but I can't justify what they are doing any more. As I noted above, I am not a moron. They have moved past the line that I was comfortable with, and are blatantly taking advantage of us now.

I expect monetization tactics like this from TRION, or Pearl Abyss. What is happening with ESO??

200:1 is rare af i'd say. Even 250 is quite rare. TCE (PC-EU) set it to 325:1 and you can find from others for like 275-300:1 if you are lucky.

Let me preface my comment by saying I'm not a fan of the crown store in general, nor many of the microtransactions we've seen crop up there recently.

    That being said....

I'm okay with the price being that high. If it was, say 5,000 or even 3,500, like I'm sure most people would like, that would virtually eliminate any market for the pages in the game. They are extremely hard/grindy to get in the game, and as I personally do not run trials, I will have to purchase mine from folks that do.

Even though I've spent millions of gold acquiring motifs in game from other players that I could have easily paid crowns for, I have no problems giving my gold to the people who put in the effort to get them through their intended ways (ie dungeons, trials, fishing, etc).

I think there should be a certain incentive to run end-game content and provide a source of gold-making for the players skilled/dedicated enough to do it.

If it were up to me, the crown store wouldn't sell anything that could be acquired by normal gameplay. Houses, mounts, motifs, what have you. I understand the cash cow that it is, means it will never go away, but that's just my opinion, love it or hate it.

Yeah, just farm it. Run Veteren Cloudrest five times this week (or once at +3) and bind your fragments for a motif page. Then do it again next week, and the week after that, and after that, etc... and maybe in about four months you'll have the full motif if you trade the duplicates you get with others. That sounds reasonable.

200:1 was what I was finding on PC/NA, its probably higher than that elsewhere.

Still, even at 325:1, we've got:

1,950,000 gold to gift the crown store motif

Meaning individual pages should sell for 140k each. Otherwise its more cost effective to just buy a gifted motif.

Okay, that's more expensive than 85k a page, but frankly, Buoyant Armiger used to go for more than that when it first released.

Ultimately, I suspect ZOS majorly undercut people who would farm the trials to sell these motif pages, at least in the short term. And not only is it hard content, its also a frustrating grind designed to limit availability. I would have expected trial farmers to charge more, but now they have to sell under ZOS' price.
