The only reason people go into IC is to farm the skin.
Tel Var farming just isnt worth the risk for most players.

Because unless you're really good or in a zerg, it's too easy to lose the very Tel Var stones you are trying to accumulate.

It is too much to loose 50% each time you get killed by another player and then all those hard hitting bosses make you loose more, if you aren't lucky enough to kill them with other players or have a really high DPS.

Had ZoS made it more in line with 10-25% when you get killed by another player, most PvEer would probably not give up after just one or two try in the Sewers.

Large zergs where running around in IC and Sewers (Molag Bal) and made it more or less impossible to do anything, so I believe one part could be that when one side dominate IC with flags and the centre of Sewers that make other people find it more useful to spend time other places in this game where they can get anywhere in their progression.

I participated during the first days of the event but each day ended the same way: I lost all my telvars to some NB bombers. Not gonna come to IC during the event anymore as it's the NBfest and the waste of time for all players killed by these kamikaze. As a result, at the end of the day you get nothing.

If they made IC like the cyro campaigns where people earned points that went towards some weekly reward for the worthy, then they could remove the whole "you lose telvar when you die" since the weekly reward would still give pvp'rs a reason to kill other players there, but remove the reason (losing telvar) that most pve'rs don't want to be there.

When I saw the event my logic went like this "woo, double rewards....but that would mean more people there, which would mean more dying as well as harder farming resulting in less stones being gained overall....eh, I'll wait for it to blow over"

I can speak only for myself, but I don't really mind losing tel vars per se, but I feel that farming tel var solo is a tedious activity and the current event just adds the risk of being ganked even when near to your base, while joining a group to farm Molag Bal meant spending an insane amount of soul gems just to gather generic green armours and weapons, the odd daedra husk and a whole total of 22 tel var stones after beating him two times.
I may have gone totally unprepared and that's why I've been repeatedly one shotted by the bosses and by Molag Bal final shot, but In the end it wasn't worth the time spent.

Maybe I'll gear up and give it another go, but it's more likely that I'll go back to farm tel vars for the storage when the event is over and the sewers go back to their usual dead peace.

I tried farming the skin/pet last year for hours and got nada. It would help if everyone involved got a chance at the drop, but when there are dozens of people farming Molag your chances of getting anything are pretty slim. Now you can buy the runeboxes that drop, I can understand people not wanting to bother. You've got to get down to him as well without getting ganked on the way. Agree also with losing so many tel-vars, it becomes a chore, especially when you lose them to NPCs, I mean what are they gonna spend them on?

I love the sewers, and enjoyed the quests (when I managed to avoid the gankers to do them), even enjoyed the risk as a squishy solo PvEr trying to get around the place. But farming gets old very quickly, gather stones, lose stones, rinse and repeat. I never get the big multipliers because I panic whenever I get a few thousand and run back to the bank. I've managed to get the things I wanted like the polymorphs, over time and just don't have any enthusiasm for going back.

It's sad. I read a post of how IC was originally intended. If it was correct, it would have been much more active.

Too bad though, it's a cool zone. Would have liked to have seen that version of IC.

They need ic to be base game. Either make it relevant to cyro pvp, for example, you need the districts to emp as well as the usual districts.

This activity does kinda work against the gankers. Because of the large groups operating in the City during the event, it's inefficient for a ganker to scamper back through the sewers every time they end up flush with stones. Under normal circumstances, you're not completely wrong.

They do not need to scamper back through the sewers, just buy a return to base port or find one in a chest. I forget the name of it, as I only been in IC a few times.

I may be wrong about this but I’m pretty sure the Imperial city got its inspiration from Dark Age of Camelot’s Darkness Falls which was an awesome place. The point in mentioning DF is That you didn’t lose your loot when you got killed. I’m pretty baffled why ESO decided to place such a heavy penalty on farming IC.

As there's no incentive to go down the sewers anymore, when an event like this is on, players still think of telvar as if it's 2015 where 2,000 stones had you running to the bank checking corners.

Kinda a shame that people are still scared of losing stones that take 5 minutes to earn back.

I remember making ~12k an hour back at release, running loops and fighting the flag bosses.
Now you can make ~15k in 2 minutes.

Although, not when there's 30 guys down there - Maybe that's something to do with it.

Maybe it has so something to do with Midyear Mayhem (double AP event) ? During that event many people were farming AP in IC by flipping flags - and probably they also farmed a lot of Tel Var Stones... so it might be just that.

Or maybe because it is a PvE & PvP mix and is not good for both PvE players & PvP players as PvP interrupts PvE and vice versa.

For me it's not about the incentive or anything. It feels like there's an event all the time and I was just in IC a month and a half ago... Just a bit overloaded with events, don't feel like it's important to show up anymore. Also, after spending hours for that useless scamp achievement last time I got tired of the way Zenimax is doing events & achievements...

Yeah, that's solo , farming bosses - If you take 10k stones with you and kill any single top-district boss with the district flag active it's somewhere around 12k+ a kill.

I take it at 6k p/h you're grinding down the ladders, in the actual sewers? - If you can't solo the bosses, you'd get more just killing adds up the top districts.

There's a 33% multiplier for owning the districts on top of your personal multiplier, it makes elite adds in districts worth about 200 each solo with 10k stones on you.

Once you've done it for a bit, the initial 10k won't feel risky at all and even if it does, it's 15 minutes to get back, killing normal adds, let alone bosses. Soon it won't be a scary thing.

I went to IC for the 1st time ever. Saw a handful of people, no PvP whatsoever, left and have not gone back there yet. I see no reason to do it. A skin with a very low drop rate isn't enough incentive. The skin is actually nice and i want it, but there's a good chance i'm not gonna get it anyways. Why waste my time?

I agree with this, the first time I went to IC was the second day of the event, helped kill Molag at least 10 times while hitting him- and every time I got nothing!

But yeah, I’d like the skin too but it’s hard with the terrible drop rate and now people can sell them on the guild store. Haven’t seen any yet but I doubt I even have enough to but one, let alone the pet.
Wish that it was set up like if you already have the pet/skin, then you shouldn’t get a double or have them in a crown crate to buy with gems but that would probably be a bad idea.

@Reistr_the_Unbroken the pet is super cheap atm, I got one for 16k yesterday. The skin has dropped from 1m+ to 450k now and may drop a little more. If you can afford them, I'd buy them now. After the event they'll go right back up.

@Ragged_Claw currently I’m saving up and have roughly 10,000 (I could be wrong, so I’ll have to check later) with half in the bank and the rest on my person. So far I haven’t seen a skin for sale but I’ll keep checking as I steal items and sell them to fences after making a DB contract.

main reason to enter C was to get Assault up to 6 and enable Caltrops for my stamblade. Got some tels as well. Farming tels is easy early morning (6ish BST) in IC Sewers when there seems to be a dearth of gankers. Its easy to get 5-6k in 20-30 mins and drop back to base to bank. I agree with OP that unless I'm in a group or zerg my toon can't cut it in PVP, either city or cyro. I could set up a build for PVP but I probs won't go back much. That said I built a mix for my healer for the previous Cyrodil event and ended up keeping it for PVE, just for the survivability against vet bosses. Hmm, mebs I will build PVP into my stamblade ;o))

-Battlegrounds scratches my itch for small-scale PvP in varied environments.
-As others have said, increased player presence in IC means farming builds will get me killed more often, better to do larger-scale stuff with groups, etc. (Why not just do overland Cyro then? I got the scamp, and I'm not interested in RNG drops for the Skin)
-There's really only one interesting objective now (Molag Ball) since the district bosses get wiped fast, or you're absolutely going to get ganked when fighting one. Kill Ball and pick up your loot that can't be taken away. (But surprise surprise, with that 12-man limit on getting loot it's a pain in the arse for anyone that doesn't build max damage, and god help noobs).
-Key Fragments (IMO) are generally worthless now. The chests don't even give you Tel Var. Or anything interesting anymore. The Xivkin motifs themselves are a dated model and generally easily obtained. So just going around and killing mobs isn't that good, asides from a minor power fantasy until a player comes in and nukes you.
-There is no interaction whatsoever between IC and IC Sewers. The flags do jack-*** below, so it creates a kind of barrier. If you want to farm Ball, you don't ever have to worry about trying to take flags up above. You only Farm Ball with a large group, no need to send anyone up above to clear objectives.

    But that's just my reasoning.

As a broke PvPer I invested my telvar pre event to a set of imperial physique. Went down yesterday with a fellow imp physique stamblade for a mag/stamblade combo and we racked about 250k in 2 1/2 hours. These pvp zone events are like Christmas for pvpers with the stale cyrodill gameplay for 4+ years and the BG que being broken for high MMR...ZOS? Still haven’t heard anything on that...

I remember the last IC event had the servers bursting. But for some reason very few seem to be participating I don't PVP so without a big group I'm easy pickings for all the hardcore PVP players. Since the event starting I've only been in 3 groups. Why is the event not as popular as it was last time?

because the DPS meta is so bad it really sucks for the majority of people interested in trying to earn the skin.

Not much reason to do it,
They ruined imperial city for PvP when they added flags. Arena used to be the most fun place in all pvp. You could drop down and join a 3 way fight of over 100 people any time of the day or duel with others.

Since then, it hasn’t been the same.

I miss this. IC Arena was way more fun that anything top side.

Three way cluster eff with a huge Daedroth pummeling people. Utter chaos, and I loved it.

I think the biggest problem with IC is there’s nothing many of us want out of there. For me, there’s absolutely nothing I want via tel var.

Most of my broke PVP friends love it for the flower satchels.

Too much of a loss when you die. Unless you have a specific solo build or are with a small dedicated group, it's not worth it. Loss needs to he greatly reduced to 5-10%. The flags are also silly, especially as slow as they flip.

I disagree. What makes the IC unique and fun is the potential loss of progress, the magnitude of which has already been heavily cut once before.

The IC was in its prime back before it had the district flags and near-lossless gameplay that has so incentivized the current myriad zergs gobbling up all of the immediate resources.

There is obviously an easy proof for that, just make IC full gear drop and see if more or less people show up.
