That's what happens in IC during the event. I friended a guy from my own alliance whose main focus turned out to be PvE. He was wearing Twice Born Star with non-optimal traits, e.g. not Impen. You can see what happened there. You wear Twice Born Star, you have it golded out, you never want to change, because you lose your second mundus.

I tried to counsel another player who seemed quite depressed during duels. The longer I talked to him, the more problems I saw with his build. No Undaunted Mettle, no Medicinal Use, no gold weapons, sub-optimal traits, no monster helm set, and so on. It all adds up.

I still think skill and experience is the biggest issue, but I've recently been surprised by the lack of "homework" I see. The upside is that it's the easiest thing to talk about and fix, if that's what it turns out to be. It would help if the OP could input their build into the UESP build editor and share it. It's also important to know whether they are playing CP or no CP.
