only second time through and really wish the maps were accurate :(

Get the add on Map Pins set it to show the breach locations in the add on settings and it becomes very easy. Sadly no add on can fix how boring and mundane this quest is.

Overall, I dislike that quest design.
Yes, it has pretty interesting story, but omg that realization! Check 3 portals, teleport, check 3 portals, teleport, ....

Only leveling of Dark Brotherhood can be more frustrating: fly there, sneak, wait, kill, turn back and get your 5 exp. Thanks, game! Much appreciated!
Thieves guild wasn't so boring btw.
But, both of them are not mandatory, and mostly made for fun and roleplay. You can do that on 1 character and forget.
Legerdemain leveling from opening chests (any), so if you are making chest farm - you'll level it up in no time.
But Psijic line is way too useful to pass it out, so players are forced to do it.

I punished that skull once - on one of the characters left him in the archive, he was sooooo upset :D

It's the back and forth "go fetch" structure of the quests that I think grinds people's gears so much. With Mages, Fighters, Undaunted, etc. you're doing stuff while you level them. Even if you just straight up grind Mages Guild books, you're sweeping across an entire zone as you get them. Thieves & Dark Brotherhood have you doing actual quests, complete with locations, scenes, fights, etc. in between their "okay now go steal/kill in [location]".

Kind of feels like Psijic leveling is:

    - "Okay initiate; look at this map and go here, here, here, here, there, over there, here, and right there... oh yeah, and up there too"
    *runs all over Summerset*
    - (Oh, wow, they actually did it...) "Good job, now you're one of us! Here's another map. Go here, here, and here. Then go there, over there, and right there too. Afterwards, go three more places."
    *sighs* *goes running around again*
    - (LOL, holy crap you guys, this chump is actually going around to all these places I mark on their map! Quick, go get that old map that shows where all those harmless time breach thingies are! This is gonna be hilarious!) "Once again, initiate, your efforts are impressive and super important or whatever. We think you're great. We have some more important missions for you! Just grab your map and go..."
*contemplates telling the Psijic nerds where to stick it, then remembers how useful some of the skills can be* "..."
    - (*Josajeh and Celarus stifle laughter as you run back the the wayshrine again. Burst out laughing as soon as you turn the corner.*)

I think most, if not all, quests are boring.

Run here. Kill that. Run there. Grab that. Run back over there. Talk to so and so. Go back and collect 3 whatchamacallits. Run there. Kill that. Run back.

I'm in the middle of this horror and gods it's awful. I logged out last night early because I couldn't face doing Deshaan and Shadowfen again after I'd spent forever there finding the staff shards.

I wish I found the skull funny. Instead, he's an added irritant to an already dull questline. The only joy I've found with it is the bits of story and beauty of Arteum in between slogs. I don't know if I'll make it the rest of the way through.

Sadly, I love questing, I love exploring, and I've really enjoyed most of ESO's storylines. This isn't fun.

While I get where you're coming from, I'm fairly comfortable saying that this was about the easiest skill grind in the game. Dark Brotherhood, Thieves Guild, Legardemain, Undaunted, Mage's Guild, and Fighter's Guild all take a lot longer and are generally less engaging. It's not perfect, but it's a step towards improvement.

It’s the fact that it’s ‘easy’ that makes it the mind-numbingly tedious atrocity that it is

Oh wow-- that made everything so much more bearable once I figured out you had to enable the time breeches through the filter menu in the map <3

Finally made it through the rest of the quest. Which ended in a delve I'd already cleared :/ Urgh.

I have completed it on five characters so far and I agree, it's not fun after the first few times, even with the Augur's superb voice acting. However, you have to keep it in perspective: it's the only skill line that can be maxed out in a 2-3 hours (thanks to Alcast's guide). I think it seems more tedious because people who have alt characters most likely already have Mages/Fighters/Undaunted lines levelled, so they had to do the Psijic one repeatedly, since it's the newest addition, but compared to the others, it's not really that much more grind-y.

Did it on only one character. It was OK once...but I honestly can’t imagine doing it all again. I’m just not a grinder type. I think I’ve only completed the Mages guild line once, maybe twice (and I have about 20 characters). The main quest twice, but Cadwell’s gold only once. I don’t grind gear traits, either (thank goodness for transmuting). And I still don’t have all the skyshards on anybody (I rarely PvP) despite being here since beta.

I’d rather start over with brand new characters than grind anything.

Blending the disciplines of the stealthy agent and subtle wizard, I move unseen and undetected, foil locks and traps, and teleport to safety when threatened, or strike like a viper from ambush. The College of Illusion hides me and fuddles or pacifies my opponents. The College of Mysticism detects my object, reflects and dispels enemy spells, and makes good my escape. The key to a nightblade's success is avoidance, by spell or by stealth; with these skills, all things are possible."

I thought the Psijic quest line period was pretty lame the first time. So I don't even want to imagine having to do it multiple times.

The characters were not very interesting. The story was boring. The quests were repetitive.

I haven't gotten around to doing the Summerset quest line yet - but I hope it's better. I did enjoy Morrowind's story line. Sun-in-Shadow.and that woman who went on a murder spree to avenge her brother stood out as cool characters. But the Psijic characters were generic and hollow. The talking skull was the only one that had any personality.

    Some varying perspectives as expected.

For DB and Thieves - I did this on my stealthy type char but don't really mind them because it cool to do one time through; I don't really feel like I'm missing out on much not completing them on every char.

Mages guild could be given the same treatment as Psijic - basically make it about 1/3rd as long. That's all I'm really suggesting here. We all understand as we are running around doing these things that they are trying to give the lines some extra value to accomplish, and it admittedly feels good when you get it leveled up.

I just feel like when you're doing them on multiple characters there comes a point where the time goes from "Ok this is tolerable, I can't wait to unlock this!" to "FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF!!!!!"

Another solution that I wish ZOS would consider is making more RNG rare/special loot drop from common mobs or be lootable around the world. This would make having to run around more fun. We had this for a brief moment after SS - I would get excited when I would see a lootable psijic portal, like an easter egg hunt. After a while though you realize they are just treasure chests that you don't have to pick.

All the guild lines should be reduced to a third of the time after you complete them the first time... Mages guild, fighters, undaunted, psijic, etc... Just have all characters gain exp in those three times as fast once they are completed the first time... Hell do that for horse training too!!

I'm going through with my second character and she's gathering all the treasure maps in the process. I'm pretty close to done.

I think after that, I'm going to unlock the psijic portals on all my characters before I start the quest on the next one.

I usually do one map, then take a break and do something else. Then come back. And I already remember where most of the rifts are. By the time I'm on my last character, I'll probably be able to do it in my sleep.

This is a very happy medium between character-specific rewards and account-wide rewards. I like this
Valrien Dravic -- Level 50 Dunmeri Sorcerer (EP)
Garahel Dravic -- Level 50 Bosmeri Nightblade (EP)
Tamriel Unlimited was a mistake. One Tamriel was a bigger mistake

Once I got past the 5th character, I started thinking of the psijic quest line less in terms of doing it for its own sake and more in terms of letting my alts gather some alchemy reagents and open some chests while discovering map POIs and wayshrines. Now I actually kind of enjoy it.
AD is the best looking faction. I don't make the rules, I just enforce them.

It's not perfect, but it's a step towards improvement.

I haven't even been investing any time in levelling Fighter Guild and still that skill line is almost finished compared to those other. Doing Daily Dolmen, Bolgruds quest and killing Deadra (no sure if that passive for killing Deadra and Undead is needed to count for FG) increases that line without even trying.

The most annoying part is that there is no add on like there is for Lorebook and Skyshards which can be set to remove pin on map when you have done those, so I have been back tracking a couple of times Time Breaches which is really not fun. There is only custom pins that helps a bit to find where those TB are located and TreasureMap (which let you have a smaller version of that map from quest giver on top of screen).

One or two jokes can be ok, but in the long run it gets just feels forced and it isn't funny when you do the same quest over and over on other PC.

The mechanics where you have to activate skull each time to actually see Time Breaches are also I bit annoying. If you don't activate skull when it is showing on screen, then you will not see any TB even when it is there. It is not obvious how this works the first time one are doing this quest. I wish ZoS had instead made that glowing thing on PC to indicate distance or which direction one need to go to find TB, that was what I first thought the skull where meant to do.

Triggering that skull doesn't help to locate TB as you need to run up and down elevation to make sure that you find it (sometime you get a pin on compass, but then you have to be near it).

Let's face it, this skill line is not for everyone. Many will try, but only a select few have what it takes to deal with the seemingly endless, repetitive, and mind-numbing quests required to completely level up the skill line (in other words, having a bit of OCD helps).

@RexyCat Map Pins does show and mostly updates if you have closed the breach

You dont need to use the Auger ever, but without it you have to get very close to the breach (and hope the server is not of a tea break) to see it but even without the addon it is not hard to find them from the maps and some prior knowledge of the zones.
Same as collecting the staff fragments is more about "is the hamster on a tea break or not" rather than anything else, as the is no addon for that path & the sever can be damn slow about lighting up the next glowpoint
