Would you recommend the Imperial City?

Hello I would like you to share your personal opinion on something.

I am wanting to be curious about the next DLC on sale, the Imperial City. I hear a lot of people talking about it!

Is it worth it? What can I expect from it?

I do enjoy Cyrodiil but I intensely dislike battlegrounds, which is it more like?

If you're on a busy time it's just ganksville, doing the quests for the story is impossible when people are about as they just kill you over and over. It's taken me days to do the 7 quests, and that's on a quiet EU Alkosh, probably the quietest of the lot.

It's just 6 areas like battlegrounds interspersed with tons of daedra and ridiculously difficult wandering bosses who can one shot everyone in the game. 2 of the 7 quests are impossible without help [or being absolutely in the top 0.5% to solo].

I wouldn't recommend it to be honest.

It's brilliant. Get it.

Imperial City and Orsinium/Wrothgar and the best two in my opinion, well done. Lots to do, gd quests and a load of longevity

If you PvP you need it really, its almost a default.

If you like running dungeons, I'd get it just so you can queue up for Imperial City Prison and White Gold Tower. Throw in a few shards from the sewers and grab a few tel var stones here and there and call it a day.

Imperial City is a well done DLC with a fair amount of content.

Problem would be... actually doing the quests which are mostly tedious with the way it's played now.

IC is only worth it for the dungeons. The PvP is spent outside of this anniversary. The PvE outside of the dungeons isn’t that great except some of the group aspects.

When it’s not on holiday this dlc is empty. However the two dungeons it provides have sets that remain relevant to this day. So even if you don’t like the way pvp is set up in this zone, it’s still halfway worthwhile. To me it isn’t like Battlegrounds at all because there isn’t an end in sight. It’s much more like Cyrodiil but inside buildings.

I would recommend it. I quit right after imperial city came out, I was getting hooked on it back then. So I'm not burnt out on it like a lot of people are.

I had a blast last night even running solo. Yes it's tricky running solo, lots of stealth going on, but still fun.

I would go with a group if you can and like others have mentioned, tons to do.

On sale, I'd say yes.

If you want to PvP, that's fun during the anniversary event (and to a lesser extent, midyear mayhem).

If you want to PvE for stones, play outside of those events.

If you want dungeons...those are pretty great. They've been nerfed a ton, but WGT is still one of my favorite dungeons. ICP is one of my least favorite, though, so there's that.

IC is a PvP zone where players can actually rob you.

You need a good group or plan, or a thick skin to do the PvP stuff. Losing half your telvars upon each death can wreck your nerves, if you allow it.

kind of miss the old days of being able to "fish" for tel var from the district platforms...

if you like mixing solo PVP with your PVE questing and farming, fighting minibosses + mobs every 50 ft, and risk/reward mechanics, go for it. Be aware that IC is only busy during the Anniversary and Midyear Mayhem.

If you don't like farming items or questing with the risk of getting ganked and slaughtered or overrun by enemies and slaughtered and losing Tel Var, I wouldn't recommend it.

Well, not really. It's a PvE farm zone where you can and will get ganked by other players. That's the core of the design and that's why it failed so hard.

Unless you really want the dungeons, this DLC is not worth it. Not even for PvPers, it is empty outside of the event for the above mentioned reasons.

Unless you're a healer, honestly no.

There are better ways to make gold, it's not a great area for pvp or pve, and everything outside of the dungeons can be bought.

I'd recommend either getting it on sale or trying it out with eso+. Some people absolutely love it, others not so much. If I was tight on a budget IC would be one of the last I'd buy.

It's on deep discount right now for the anniversary, which I assume is why OP is asking about it.

...and if you enjoy dungeon running, the dungeons are enough of a reason to buy it. Lately, we've been getting two dungeons with no other content and it's considered a "complete" DLC. IC has two dungeons plus two super unique "zones."

It’s not a bad dlc, but it’s for a particular sort of player. Pure PvPers or pure PvPers aren’t going to enjoy it due to the key aspects from the other playstyle they don’t want to participate in. Players who enjoy both will enjoy IC.

The quests can all be solo’d if you’re smart about it (I did them on my PvE stamblade a couple years ago and my PvE healer last Midyear Mayhem), but it is a dangerous area with significant enemy threats even outside players

I'd recommend ESO+, for it includes Imperial City and other DLC.

It's the only DLC i regret buying. I tried to get refund in the next day, unfortunately with no success. I never found PvP fun there and main story line for me was just meh. Can't say anything about dungeons because I don't give damn about them.

As mentioned before, ESO+ would be best choice, try it out and if you like it you can buy it cheap until September 17 with crowns you get from ESO+.

If you got a group of friends that all are interested, yes.
If you're a NB that likes to wait for other players to attack mobs and gank them, yes. Outside of this event, this is the typical "PvP" found there.

That's about it, sub for a month and you can farm the sets you want.

after playing in such a vibrant prosperous version of the imperial city, and, then seeing it in this condition - that's pretty neat...

You won't be disappointed with it. It's one of the best DLCs to date imo. I bought it when the guilds and glory pack was released. I've only now done the quests though, but really enjoyed the story. Two of the bosses I couldn't do solo but the rest is easy enough.

Sneaking through the districts doing PvE when an enemy zerg was running through was a bit risky when loaded with telvar. But I found that to be one of the best parts of IC. I don't see why loads of PvErs whine about it tbh, just play smart.

I struggled for a while on that one. Asked in my guilds for help, while waiting for help to arrive, two EP came in and started hammering it, I got a few bow skills off and then went in to stealth before they discovered me. Competed the quest and kept my telvar

You could try doing the same.

I just realized you lose 50% of your magic stones when you die. I'm so sad, I must have lost thousands of them dying that much
