Do you have to subscribe to get explorer pack?

I'm installing now. Do I need to setup a subscription model in order to get my explorer pack on first login? I hear we have until Sunday to setup an actual subscription and I'd like to wait until then if possible but not if I don't get the explorer pack until I do. Thanks for any help.
