Shield Charge/Power Bash. Are they not the same? How to use properly?

I am trying sword and board for something different so I am not familiar with the skill very well. I am looking at these spells. They cost over 2000 stamina and do about 400 damage. I don't see that as a good ratio. Then again I don't know how it should work so I am not seeing something. I see they both stun. So why take one over the other?

Also any tips how to use sword and board and or the skills would be greatly appreciated. I am playing as a DragonKnight Orc if that makes a difference or not. Just trying to learn this skill line better and right now, I am not seeing it. Please help.

Shield charge is a gap closer. Power bash is a melee stun but usually used for the debuff morph.

The s/b skill line is a defensive skill line for tanks. Not damage.

Power bash and the reverberating bash morph have a high cost because they stun and reverb stuns and places major defile on the target. The power slam morph is the “dps” morph but it’s cost to damage efficiency in comparison to other “dps” category skills is poor. Plus, to maximize the damage you have to factor in the cost for the block. And it does not have a secondary effect. Pierce armor (puncture morph) is your go to spamable in the skill line. It’s low cost and effects targets with major fracture and major breach. If you use a crushing enchantment and infused weapon you will remove 7K+ of a target’s armor. Plus the damage it does is not bad for the cost. It is a tank skill however and will taunt enemies in pve. I am not sure if you are tank or not.

Shield charge also has a minimum distance requirement of 3.5m do you can't use that when you're too close to your target.

I am just playing PvE. So I am playing alone. I still don't know how to tank, or be a healer or what ever a DPS is suppose to do. So I play alone. This post gave me lots of information that I didn't even realize. Thank you so much for explaining it to me.

Now playing only PvE I am liking the spell. It breaks the mountainy and lets me play a bit differently now that I have been before. I will take what you have said and see if I can understand how to put it to proper use.
