I played in a duo. Got placed against a 3-man premade. The 3 premade ragequit because they lost badly.
The 20 minute deserter penalty is well-deserved. You shouldn't suddenly leave a BG, especially since the 4v4v4 is so important in most cases. Losing one player is rly destructive for the team.
(Edit: The BG also closed shortly after, because there weren't enough players in the BG. Does that seem fair to you? That the BG closes for everyone else, just because some people cant handle losing?)
The only time I could agree to not get a deserter penalty - is if you'd get disconnected to login-screen or something. But except that - any force close of the game/disconnect(Pulling the plug) or ragequit *should* have severe penalty.

Xerge✭✭✭So im going to chime in with a funny scenario. It was 5am east coast time sat. morning this weekend. Decided to do BG before crashing; queued up and of course it's usually pretty quick. I accept and join the BG with three others. Now without thinking I do my usual jump around/buff up routine waiting for the match to start... here's the funny thing. IT NEVER DID START. Myself and 3 other dudes waited, gosh honest, 50 minutes. We watched as people would trickle into the match however never enough were placed so we could start this match. Keep in mind this wasn't a premade, just 4 dudes trying to get our daily done. We chatted, had a fun time, we even tried communicating to the other teams telling them to wait. I don't think other teams see chats however.
Was there literally no BG matches going on at 5am east coast? We joked that maybe because all four of us are waiting, and no one else is joining, perhaps we're screwing the system.
TL;DR I waited close to an hour and decided to leave and only to be punished. Working as intended.3 -
Yoven✭✭✭Battlegrounds are severely bugged right now, leaving a bugged battleground should not be a punishable offense.2

JiKama✭✭✭✭I would be happy if you DC or quit within a certain amount of time the deserter penalty wouldn't apply. I can't tell you how many times I get to a loading screen and get kicked to the login screen. Then it also fails at logging in and I get the deserter penalty. It sucks living in the sticks with terrible internet.1 -

Outside of generally disconnecting (in which a player should be able to rejoin and not be penaltied for it) the timer should remain at 20minutes or be extended. I do not want teams to leave as soon as they match a premade or a team which has lost chances of winning. It promotes leaving. Which is something you don’t want in a fast paced small scale fight. It’s not battlefield or COD every player counts. No player should be able to leave the team Scott free1 -

Sweet because of the icecream, but sour because alot of (honest) players are being punished by the game for just wanting to play a battlegrounds game and ending up in a bugged battleground.
Therefor I say remove the Deserter Penalty of 20 minutes, or make it so that bugged battlegrounds do not give you the penalty.

jlmurra2✭✭✭✭✭I've received a few Battleground Deserter Penalties, yet I haven't deserved a single one. They have always been due to disconnects, I have never deserted.
The system should have a two stage conformation (Quit/Leave Battlegrounds. Yes, I'm certain I want to quit Battlegrounds) before penalizing players, this is a common problem.0 -

✭✭✭✭✭Well seeing if it doesn't load for me, it takes a minimum 5 min to shut everything off and wait for everything to reload, so the penalty is always pretty short by that time0 -
BladedMischief✭✭✭I’ve never deserted a Battleground, yet the game says I did even though the game itself crashed/disconnected me from the server. Then proceeded to say I had deserted a Battleground recently and couldn’t queue again.
I feel like there really needs to be a way for the game to determine an actual deserter and someone who has crashed/disconnected from the game.~We're a community of adventurers. No matter which banner we fight under~0 -
shaielzafine✭✭✭✭✭I don't even bother with battlegrounds anymore, the queue takes too long if in a pre-made group and if not in group I tend to get 3 v 4 v 3 against pre-mades anyway. Half the time I'm in a pre-made, someone fails to load in or is stuck in a loading screen then gets the deserter penalty & can't rejoin the battleground. When I'm solo, and I get an actual full team as opposed to 3 v 4 v 3, then lovely, the q finder actually worked! Hopefully nobody disconnects then (this still happens, like it lags out and kicks me sometimes) and hopefully the teammates I have aren't just afk to get caltrops or warhorn, since people keep telling pve-ers to do BGs as it's faster than Cyrodiil. If they remove the deserter penalty for people that legitimately get kicked by the game, then great. Maybe they can increase the amount of time where you can rejoin if the game server craps out like it usually does. Otherwise, they should keep the penalty since people will just leave as they are losing.0

Odnoc✭✭✭✭While normally it is deserved, yesterday I joined a battleground with 2,2 and 3 people, waited about 20 minutes for it to fill, never did, left and had to wait another 20 minutes because of a bug.0
