I can't speak for others, but I'm just as deadly up close on my stamplar. Sniping from afar is just to shake you up and frustrate you into rushing to my position. Not all of us are easy kills.

newsflash - snipe isn't just overperforming in battlegrounds...

I have 10 characters, each is set up with a melee weapon and a ranged weapon, 4 of the characters use a bow...

the other 6 characters are wondering why force shock doesn't do more damage...

Snipe is easy to counter. L2P!

Sure, they might get a single kill if you aren't prepared, but they are only a nuisance if you aren't expecting them. They are more annoying in Cyro than BGs imo, since its easy to single them out and counter them out of 8 enemies and less so out of 24+. Not to mention its easy to be on guard for them for a 15 minute match and less so to stay on guard for an hour long open world session.

If you are ranged, like a magsorc or magblade, you should have no problems killing them before they kill you, and if you fail they will still likely run away after you start to damage them.

If you are melee, you have options to counter them while closing the distance:
Stam and magdk can use wings.
    Warden can use Shimmering Shield.
A stamnb can roll and enter cloak.
    Templar can use Eclipse.
Stamsorc has high movement speed to take advantage of to quickly los and close the distance.

All players can line of sight, or use Sword and Shield ultimate Spell Wall to counter them.

When I see/hear a sniper in a BG match, I know I'm going to easily get a high KDR because they are dumb enough to play the most counterable playstyle in the game.

    Git gud or git sniped.
Strategic well placed shot from somebody who knows the layout well, is very good at picking the target, knows how to keep a safe distance, put a lot of time in to the build to hit so hard they earned it after a months grind. = It's to op nerf it.

really good points, particularly on how to counter snipe...

I'd add though that sometimes you can run around around a rock, tree, building - on the other side of the map - and, snipe will still stay locked on to you...

it's like a freaking guided missile at times...

Edit: for some reason everyone here seems to think that only "terrible/clueless" players are using snipe because:

    - it's a bad skill
    - it's morally reprehensible
    - something

there's lots of different folks using it because - it works...

If all else fails, it can be roll dodged as you close the gap or find a place to los. Easier done on a stamina build than a magicka build I know, but still a consistent option.

P.S. Most of the tips I suggested also work to varying degrees against magsorcs.

You would hate my bow build. Where I spam light attacks with crushing weapon and weave snipe and lethal injection in. Oh and relentless focus when the proc is up.

So basically...you're also the guy who plays an FPS game and wants snipers nerfed?

Because in both contexts, they're doing exactly what's in their job description...namely to kill you from a safe and hidden vantage point

If the roles were switched, you would probably call it something like "skill" and "strategy".

But on the recieving end it's always perceived as cheap etc...

    Ego FTW.
