Doing quests before Caldwell's Silver and Gold

I would like to know what happens if you do quests before doing Caldwell's Silver and Gold? I am in Auridon and want to venture out. I see now with one of my characters that there is Caldwell's Silver and Gold quests. So if I venture out to other places will I be able to do those quests or are they locked out until I get to do Caldwell's quests or I can do them now and when I get to Caldwell's quest they will be complete or do I have to do them over again?

I just want to make sure because I am worrying that something might go wrong and just like to make sure ahead of time if I should do them not knowing they are a Caldwell's quest or not.

If you do other alliance quests apart from your main one before starting Cadwell's then they'll just be marked off when you start Cadwells, they aren't blocked off or anything.

You can go do them at any time. Caldwell's quests is really just a fancy term for the "main quest" series of each alliance. It's the series of quests that awards 3 skill points per zone, and leads you from hub to hub and zone to zone, playing out the main storyline of each faction.

Thank you very much. Great to know. I was staying in Auridon for too long afraid of "breaking" gameplay or something. Now I can venture forth and really experience Tamriel like I should have.

It won't break gameplay in any way, but alliance zones do have an order of continuity for the storyline, at least per alliance. Especially the Aldmeri Dominion. So if for example, you did Greenshade's main quest line before Grahtwoods, things would be kind of awkward in the storyline. In some rare cases, characters may have died in a later zone's storyline, so if you do that before the earlier zone's, you would still see them alive because those events wouldn't have taken place yet.

I'd think that the only possible concern is that sometimes but certainly not always, quest lines can be a bit linear, primarily those that are grouped around quest hubs.You can usually see these as icons on the map that represent cities, towns, mountains, towers & mines, and sometimes as small as little campfires Sometimes, but not always, they also ID themselves on the map as quest hubs. One example in Auridon is Torinaan, which ID's as a quest hub. However, just east of it, is the College, which is a quest hub, but doesn't ID that way on the map. If you do one quest that has an intended pre-requisite quest, you might not later get offered the pre-requisite quest. This generally shouldn't happen though, because if a quest has a true pre-requisite, then you shouldn't be able to start that quest anyway without having already done the pre-requisite quest first.

On the other hand, if you do complete a quest before its "optional pre-requisite" (I use that term to indicate a quest that is intended as a linear progression to another quest, but the other quest allows you to do it without first doing the previous quest) you certainly shouldn't break anything in the game. Worst case, you'll miss out on a few quests, and possibly an achievement here or there, that's based on number of quests completed in a zone. But even that is usually not going to happen because the number of quests needed to complete those types of achievements will be notably fewer than the total number of quests in the zone.

Finally, the quests that make up Cadwell's Silver and Gold, are generally pretty linear throughout each zone, so you probably won't be able to mess it up, by exploring.

you can also open up Caldwell's Journal in your quest log for a listing of required quests. Once you're done with one, it'll have a check mark next to it.
