Combat Pet Radial Menu Suggestion

When you look at another player and interact (default F) a radial menu pops up with choices.

My idea is that combat pets should have one too.

You look at your clannfear or bear (or twilight or scamp) and it’s hp bar is at the top of the ui indicating it’s selected. Press F and a radial menu pops up showing: A follow/stay toggle, an aggressive/docile toggle and an unsummon button.

We can walk through pets like we walk through other players so the idea that people will block doors with their pets is already taken care of. Also this radial menu idea works for console as opposed to another bar for pet abilities. Furthermore, when the pet is toggled on Stay it should do the appropriate idle animations like polar bears and wild clannfear do (sit, lie down, scratch etc).

Also, it’s time you released the other combat pet skins, Zos.

Edit to add: I figured it out! How they can make sure people don’t park their fat bear butts on top of crafting stations: this terrain is not flat enough. Give them the error horn if they try to park the pet anywhere but flat terrain.

Thank you for your time.

While it's a great idea, pets were never intended to work this way. They are basically a spell with a permanent pet effect, for all intents and purposes..not meant to have aggressiveness off or on, or commanded to stay at one point in the world.

So I think it's a good idea - but there is a reason that nothing like this was ever added in the first place.

I dont think it will be implemented. Good luck anyway. Pets have so many issues. This is not the only one and never got attentionn or fixed. Chain lightening is the most important one.

Well, at least the banishing option would be good to have. Consider it a spell, and it'll fit the lore just right.

I'm not really speaking from the lore angle, I just mean that the pet system functionality at the code level is simplistic and is what it is for a reason; it would be late in the game for them to change that. . and if they were, you'd think it would have been implemented during Morrowind, when they added a "pet" based class.

Only if you can make the interaction more reliable and less clunky on console. When trying to interact with another player (trade, group invite, etc) the targeting itself is a crapshoot, and have to hold the “start” button for over a second sometimes just to get the menu to pop. It’s not as simple as a single keybind like the pc folks.

I’d rather start with offering basic pet controls for console that you guys already enjoy.

Well I figured that when we have temporary npc followers we can press E to interact with them, why can’t we press E to interact with our pets. They have the same group member symbol.
From there I expanded to a radial menu with some options.
There are a few things they added with Morrowind that they went back and changed/improved. In my opinion if they want to increase enthusiasm for purchasable pet skins, it would benefit them to include an extra functionality. A pet centric update.

Actually I thought the whole reason we have that dumb radial wheel was because of console limitations. I, personally, hate the radial wheel interact menu and the quick slot menu but if we’re going to have it, might as well use it for something I care about ergo pets.

I find it insightful that console doesn’t find the radial menu useful either.

They can keep the idle animations if they'd simply improve the AI, and return the original function of Command Pet to its former purpose, allowing Command on HA to be the toggle it always should have been.

Ideas are great for RP, but the other would actually return combat function.

It's so obvious that they work non-stop! They're constantly improving everything they can, trying to figure out how to improve what they haven't been able to yet, and have made ENORMOUS progress since launch!

Anyways, back on topic. I think it would be easier to have pet settings in the character screen. You know, where it shows which mundus stone, food, etc. are active? I'd like a gambit system like in Dragon Age 2 or FF12

I know PvPers might hate it but...

Instant cast resummon pets for PvE. I hate the stupid cast times to summon a pet <Especially warden>. Pets end up dieing and its quite silly that the game gives you no warning that your pet is dead until you either look or hit your ult button and go into "Ima gonna stop yo rotation, gimmie 1 second to cast".

Yes to updated pet commands/survival in dungeons.

Don't get me started on Ruins of Mazz vet. Ohh you got statue? Pets dead! Have fun killing a statue -> Resummon your pet -> Now you can fight again! Super fun mechanics!

Sorry, I just wasn't able to discern the tone of the text.

But yes, if you go into the character menu and scroll down to active effects it will say something like "Summon Twilight Matriarch" - Two button pushes and the effect is removed (aka pet is unsummoned). I try to be courteous and do that any time I'm in a town or interacting with outlier guild traders.

Well hopefully the person I was responding to saw this. The character menu is one easy way, I drag the skill from my bar for a second and put it back to unsummon a pet.

With the pet changes incoming a Quality of Life update might engender some good will.
