I got the multi-currency blues

It seems like new currency types keep being added to ESO, and we're closing in on Neverwinter's chaotic system. I wonder how many different currencies we'll have when it's all said and done, 10? 20?

We started with Gold and Alliance Points. No problem, easily separated both in the manner of earning and spending options. Then we added Crowns, then Tel Var Stones, then Crown Gems, now Writ Vouchers.

Now we've got 6 different currency types, all acquired differently, and all spent on different items and places. I'm not complaining about the difficulty of the system, it's not "hard" to keep straight, it's just becoming unnecessarily complex and a bit silly.

Especially since they are handled differently in terms of storage and use, for no reason that I can discern. Crowns and Gems are account wide, Gold and Telvar are bankable and shareable throughout your account, AP and vouchers are character bound, why is this still the case?

What are the communities' thoughts on this? Am I the only one mildly annoyed?

No, you are right on. And even if they allow you to purchase other currencies with gold in the future it would still be a pain. However, for most of the currencies other players do the farming and you can buy the items off of guild trader.

I hope TV stones and AP can be convertable (if you have Imperial City DLC of course).
    That'd help a lot

The only real problem I have with this is that AP and Vouchers aren't bankable. If they fixed that it would be fine.

I'm not counting Crowns and Crown Gems as currency, as these cannot be used for in-game stuff to trade with other players.

I do wish writ vouchers and AP were bankable, it would make everyone's life easier.

Yes, however it still doesn't compare to neverwinter since gold is not he main currency here. Neverwinter split between gold and sole crystal that was a chore to earn in game. Mostly design to force cash purchases obtain the crystals though that's more of s function of F2P P2W designs.

After 10 years in World of Warcraft, I stopped counting at 25 different currencies. So ESO isnt so bad.

I am still baffled by the decision to make Vouchers Character Bound.

And here I am, still hoping they will convert the undaunted, luck based, key system to a more straightforwards currency system with which you know beforehand how much time things are going to take. Really hoping for more currencies, less luck based loot in morrowind.

I remember playing an MMO that had 18 or 19 different currencies at launch, two of them faction specific.

It's fine. 6 isn't bad at all. GW2 easily has 2x that many.

It was worse. Each IC vault had its own collectable token so that was 6 additional ones.

They made the IC ones all use the same token so 5 got eliminated.

4 currencies isn't that bad (crowns and crown gems don't count IMO since they are real money only).

But as many of the above posts have said AP and vouchers should be bankable.

Yes to vouchers being account based, no to alliance points. Say you have 2 toons from opposing alliances and you earn a lot of ap on 1 toon. So now that toon can give his hard earned reputation to the opposing faction? I mean that is what alliance points are. Why would the opposing faction sell things to someone who got the currency from killing them.

There is a very logical reason as to why alliance points aren't account wide. Writ vouchers though? I don't understand that, possibly in an effort to extend the grind somehow?

All of them should be bankable! AP and Tel Var stones especially. I would also like to convert them.

    @Lirkin

AP and Telvar are in fact bankable. When in the screen to deposit Gold, click on the drop down to see the various currencies you can bank. Select one and choose the amount to deposit.

There is also a Currency tab in the Inventory screen so you can see your various currencies
Mine shows me what I have on hand and what is in the bank

I just noticed "Event Tickets 0/12" there. Is that for the "hardcore grind thru three events to get an indrik mount" - thing?

Telvar obviously has to be per character so that you can bank them to keep them safe.

It would be great if gold was global across characters, so long as we can still trade gold or put it in guild banks.

I don't think the arguments for keeping AP local hold up. If they made AP not bankable, we would still be able to bank whatever we bought with the AP. Limiting movement of AP just makes it harder to buy the expensive items if you PvP with multiple characters. But you can easily buy siege and then transfer the siege to another character. You can even sell the siege i a guild store. You can also open your rewards of the worthy on a different character in a different alliance.

You can read about this on the PTS notes. Basically, every day you participate in the Witches Festival (killing one boss) you get a ticket. Those can be turned in for the feather part of the runebox. I don't think they've confirmed the final product, but I suspect its the indriik.

Necro or not, most of this isn't even really "currencies" in the practical sense of the word.

Gold, AP and TV are currencies, you can buy stuff with it from NPCs, and there is some degree of overlap in the stuff you can buy with them too.

Crowns and Crown Gems isn't currency, at least not ingame currencies. It's strictly tied to the store, and for the most part, it strictly tied to cosmetics, the gameplay stuff you can buy isn't really worth it, so it's not an ingame currency. Its at best a "meta" currency.

Writ vouchers is barely a currency. It's more of a token, that you can buy specific stuff with at the mastercrafter mediator. A semi-currency I'd say. There is little to no overlap between what you can buy with gold and vouchers.

Event Tickets isn't a currency either, like Crowns it's a meta currency, basically just tokens you earn while participating in holiday events, that will eventually lead to a reward, a cosmetic reward.

So we have 3 currencies, one semi-currency, and a few meta-currencies. For real currencies, it would have to be like "in Summerset you can only use Golden Eagles as payment" and "in Vvardenfell you can only use Ebony Scarabs". The closest we have to that is TV for IC, AP for Cyrodiil, and Gold for all the other zones.

I'm not sure you have kept up with the latest updates, but...

    1. Tel Var was always bankable. That was the whole point of playing it safe and depositing your gains when you got back to the base.
    2. AP became bankable about 2 updates ago, so now you can put it in the bank and pool it together if you have multiple characters that PvP and would like to buy something like motif pages or trait stones.
