Test dummy etiquette

Does anyone else find it extremely frustrating when you are practicing your rotations on a test dummy and a guild mate comes out of nowhere and starts attacking it to, or steps in front of you and just kind of takes over?

I had meant to post about this discussion a while ago when in an old guild, but never got around to it until now after talking about this with a friend.

Is it just me, or does anyone else think this is rude?

I spend a lot of time at test dummy at my guild house to practice. A couple months ago, I was in an old guild, and I was practicing at a dummy as usual, trying different rotations/skills, etc.... Two other guild mates came in and just started attacking the same dummy. I moved to another one, and one of those two players jumped in front of my toon and started attacking it as well. So I just left.

Why would you just start attacking the same dummy when you see someone else already occupying it, when there are plenty around the area.

Extremely rude without an invitation to join. Wait your turn douchenozzle.

Also - leaving a target dummy at less than 100%. Grrr.

They might not know what dummies are used for as far as character building, and just thought "yay fighting, I'll help". That's the only possible reason I can think of for someone to do that that isn't just "they're being jerks". Because it's not like they'd get accurate readings themselves either, doing that. I'd give them the benefit of the doubt and say "hey, I kind of need this one to practice rotations, could you just use the other?" and if they refused then it's time to talk to guild admin, I guess.

Yes, if its an low level guy I would understand it, else its pretty jerky.
If its an social event in guild house its another thing, especially if some hit an raid dummy :)
Grinding just make you go in circles.
Asking ZoS for nerfs is as stupid as asking for close air support from the death star.

This. Certainly not an issue for the entire game to consider.

Another thing that can be done to prevent this is to get a house and place a test dummy in there.

I know this may sound foreign to you, but have you actually tried "Asking them to stop?" Just talking to other players will normally resolve most "conflicts" you have with them. Coming to the forums to "complain" doesn't solve anything.

I've never had anyone do that.. But I also don't join guilds made up of little ****s that would do something like that. Just report them to your GM and be done with it.

there's no way to ask this without being super patronizing so i'll just dive in: did you communicate with those players at any point?

If you use dummy a lots just buy one and set it in your own house. Those people are rude but bth, if it's a public guild house then they have the right to use it too.

I try so, so very hard to live by this, but other humans are trifling.

Still. It might be a lesson here.

You'd pretty much have to argue that children are born malicious with that train of thought. I don't think you mean to.

Willful ignorance is gross negligence, and that's something else entirely.

at any point did you communicate saying" please don't do that, I'm trying to practice"?

those dummies are for use of everyone, and unless there is a rule... there isn't much you can do. Communication goes a long way.

personally i don't think they were rude, no one can read minds so they didn't know what you was doing. People should stop and think before making posts like these.

they claim others are rude, but show no sign they communicated before hand or after. Just vent on forums how rude people are.
