Question for Alcast: regarding the PvE Sorcerer Pet Build.

When I looked at what monster set should be used, I got a bit of an Itch, because back when I was looking for gear and the like for my Magicka sorcerer as well as testing out the maw of the infernal monster set, during my solo battle in hews bane against the world boss at thrall cove, I noticed how “Empowering Ward” Shielded the Daedroth as well as myself, and that is when an idea just hit me.

Wouldn’t it be optional to use the Shadowrend or the maw of the infernal sets, because if empowering ward can shield those summoned creatures, then surely daedric prey could also improve their damage potential too.

But otherwise, here’s the question @Alcast: Will maw of the Infernal and Shadowrend be considered good “Optional” sets for those who do not have Ilambris in your Magicka Sorcerer Pet Build?

(I also included a link to the build I speak of just in case)

If you see me anywhere. Know that I am sitting back with a bag of popcorn, watching as ESO burns the goodwill of its player base with practices that only disrespects the players time like it did to me and many others...

If a game does not respect your time, best thing to do is move on from it and find something else.

Infernal is a decent option. I just noticed that in a Trial or Dungeon the Daedroth does not do that much damage in comparison with Ilambris. Especially in trials because bosses move around a lot. In Dungeons or Target Dummies the Daedroth should be totally fine.

I may not be Alcast but I played a fair share of petsorc in my career. Maw of the Infernal is actually really good on petsorc as a) Daedroth benefits from Daedric Prey's pet damage amplification b) Counts as pet so is shielded by Ward and it's morphs. Other good monster helm for Pet Sorc setup is Zaan (but that's basically good for any magDD). With high uptime on Daedric Prey and good RNG on Daedroth summon and his attacks, Daedroth can deal up to 4.5k (when testing remember to add up all of Daedroth's attacks, as he has 3: Jagged Claw, Fiery Breath and Fiery Jaws) dps on 3 mil dummy. Happened to me once. But again, his highest damage attack is Fiery Breath and you have no control of his choice of attacks. But it is safe to say that it deals 2.5k dps on average. Sometimes less, sometimes more.

As I respect Alcast for his builds and guides I have to say that many times I wondered about his Ilambris usage on petsorc - only way to trigger meteor shower is fire enchant used on frontbar lightning staff. Almost all of petsorcs damage is shock damage, bah, even pets deal shock damage. Only thing that comes to my mind not being shock type damage is Daedric Prey's explosion.

    Hope I helped! :)

The problem with Maw of the Infernal is that it blocks people's view of the boss. I used it a bit when @DarcyMardin tanked for me, and she asked me to stop using it very quickly. And we were just duoing, so I imagine it would be worse in larger groups.

That is also a fair point. When summoned it always spawns in front of the boss/mob/whatever target. And as boss is usually facing the tank, our brave meatshield suddenly has FoV blocked by creature twice his size. Blocking heavies might be problematic then. Tbh it all depends on a tank. My raiding group tanks didn't have issue with daedroths at all, even with multiple in same raid. But I can totally understand that some groups don't let you use them, as I tanked with people using it too and I know it can be frustrating.

Is that the set that summons a daedroth? If so I hate it. I can't count the times I've pulled all my fire from a legit target to the surprise daedroth that just appears at a dolmen or public dungeon. Every single time it happens I waste several seconds of dps until I realized it is a 'friendly'. Ugh. Lol.

And what of shadowrend, I know it only procs when taking damage so target dummies are not wise, but to use shadowrend in maelstrom arena for the minor main would make it slightly easier to maintain damage shields against enemies.

I never used Shadowrend, it might be a good option, give it a try and you will figure it out :)

The mainreason for that is, in raids Ilambris will still do most damage as a monster set, even if you only have the shock proc a lot. In the end, if you like Maw or Shadowrend, go with it :)
