Destruction Staff passive question

Hi all,
The destruction passive says - lighting staff does area damage and fire staff does more damage to single targets.
My question is, Do you have to have a destruction ability slotted for the passive to work?

Here's the in game text for the ancient knowledge passive from the destruction staff skill line. It requires slotting a destruction staff ability5

✭✭✭✭The way I read it, you just have to have the destruction staff equipped. You don't need any staff abilities slotted. Am I reading it wrong? @LiofaPC/NA/EP ✌️0 -

Going back and checking, some Passives say “if destruction staff equipped” and others say “if destruction ability slotted”0 -

✭✭✭✭From what I heard, console didn't have the line that says having a skill slotted is required for some time which was the cause of confusion. I am not sure if it is fixed or not.
That explains my confusion. I am on PC but I use a controller and have the controller UI. It is not fixed.PC/NA/EP ✌️0 -

Nah we haven't yet, had an argument the other day with someone about it, even shown them proof that increased damage required a skill to be slotted via a dummy test but they wouldn't listen.

Yes, light and heavy attacks from an inferno staff count as single target damage and are affected by this passive.
This also means that the heavy attack splash damage from a lightning staff is buffed by its own AOE damage increase.0 -
