I'm clueless when it comes to this stuff, so I really need some advice. With a full set of Hundings and Spriggan, all gold quality, what traits, enchants and skills should I be using to get the best out of it? I'm hitting 6k dps regularly but it's really inadequate for vet content.

Your Hundings+Spriggans gear is fine, so no need to change to the Night Mother’s Gaze shown in that build. Eventually you will want to get a set of Relequen, and work toward his Advanced gear setup.
There are plenty of ways to customize this build to your preferences, but that is a solid starting point that should answer most of your questions.0
