That might be what it is!! I had a thought in the back of my mind that it might be too soon for the update and DLC release. Ah well, I'm excited for the Orsinium event too, so it works out for me!Isn't that the day the Orsinium event starts? Probably need to make the changes to the servers for that event.
I considered that, but then looked at what they are doing for the Orsinium event.
- Orsinium DLC game pack and the limited Collector's Bundle should already be in the game, so account system maintenance is all that should be needed, if even that.
- Pariah's Pinnacle home and the Malacath's Chosen Furnishing Pack. These are returning items and should already be in the game.
- Double items harvested from crafting nodes and double rewards. I can't see they would need to go to this level effort for that, since this is not the first time it has been done.
Unless they removed this stuff from the game, or it is broken, and they added this event at the last minute, there has been plenty of time to get the Orsinium event into the game.
My thought is that this is related to the Midsummer event, not Orsinium.
Yeah, it's really unusual to schedule a complete maintenance. It smells like a serious patch for something.

What do you guys think?

I know. Hmmm... There are different datacenters, so it isn't to do some datacenter work. Unless they happened to schedule it for both datacenters on the same day. I am trying to think of things that all the platforms and geographies have in common that would force a simultaneous maintenance, rather than doing it at different times.
I wonder if someone like @ZOS_KaiSchober would be willing to share.

it is something to do with the crown store, you watch!

Perhaps with the issues last time they need to have the servers down to make sure it all works before letting it loose on all of us travellers yes?

That’s a good thought Santie but I was able to receive my new months rewards before the server was taken down.
Is there actually any official announcement about this anywhere? There seems to be nothing in the maintenance forum, I'm not seeing the usual banner thing about planned downtime, just an in-game message about "the servers are going down lol".
Edit: I see the big yellow box has finally popped up at the top of the forums, rather belatedly.

Everything we do will be intergrated into the crown store.
Pick up a quest, crown store opens.
Complete a quest, crown store opens.
Port to your home, Crown store furnishing section opens (a twist, the plot thickens)
Kill a dungeon boss, Guess what happens.
Ok, I digress. we will see in a few hours.

According to Kai Schober they are doing maintenance in both the EU and NA Datacenters and expect these to finish around the same time as last week. So the downtime will be early to late afternoon CEST approximately.
