- People that have never had to fight a magicka sorc before
- bolt escape was nerfed
- back when crystal frags could do about 15k damage per hit
- back when shields lasted 20 seconds
- Back when harness magicka reduced ALL magicka damage taken
Back then rune cage was a joke. But I guess if you nerf a class to the ground, even an ability that does zero damage suddenly becomes OP.
Guess Fengrush and Alcast are newer players.
Idk about Alcast, but Fengrush generally complains a lot and has a particular hatred for Magicka Sorc (probably because he plays Stam Sorc)
Alcast calls this skill OP. I think his complaints, and others are legitimate.

Like think about it. Why in god's name would u be able to insta break free after being hit from a dizzying swing (pain in the ass to land with tons of counterplay); while having to endure this artificial delay when a sorc decides to press his "you freeze" button with 0 counterplay (can't be blocked or dodged). Oh and I forgot something from my previous list, this skill's absurd range.
That being said, I definately had fun with it in Cyro today. Very cheesy and efficient.
The reason it cant be blocked or dodged is because it IS the counterplay to builds that can permanently block or dodge. Permarollers flop around on the battlefield and skills like pertrify, fear, and rune cage are the only ways of locking them down.
No counterplay? ever heard of immunity pots?
I do agree about the animation though, Stuns need a universal simple animation that appears the moment you are stunned that is the same for all stuns.
Petrify is acceptable on DKs because they aren't even remotely close to as bursty as Sorcs. No one is complaining about fear, it can be broken free from in a suitable manner.

I like how you didn't carry your own argument through to fear. Fear goes through block and dodge on the highest burst class in the game. Fear used to be really hard to break. I agree it's a little better now but it still forces the animation to play first. If ZOS could fix the animation for fear, they can fix it for rune cage.
Also it isn't universally reviled. It was in the game for years without anyone crying about. Its just the latest trendy thing to whine about while there are other larger problems in the game.

People complained about Fear for YEARS... until we figured out that ZOS doesn't care.

So its a bug, not a balance issue. FIx the animation. Done. Rune cage is just a longer ranged fear or petrify that doesn't do as much as either of those skills as petrify roots and fear causes minor maim. I'm all for stripping any secondary utility off the skill but its base utility must remain the same as a counter to permadodge builds running 3x speed jewelry. The animation can be changed. No problem with that.
