Hi,
imo we desperately need a feature that marks previously attempted but unsuccessful ingredient combinations in alchemy. Grey them out like in Skyrim or use any other means to visualize that you have already combined ingredients that were found don't share any properties. The way it is now you can only avoid wasting precious ingredients on multiple tries if you memorize every single combination you've already done. This is just an unnecessary hassle.

Lupinemw✭✭✭Actually we don't need the game to do it for us. We all don't need or want to be constantly spoon fed when we game.
I like that I'm not told or that its up to me to work it out for myself.

I disagree, @Lupinemw. There should be some indication that you've tried and failed with certain ingredients before. As it stands you either have to keep a spreadsheet yourself or go to a fansite with all the reagent combos already mapped out (which sort of ruins immersion if you're into that sort of thing). I think it's bad design to essentially force people to do things outside the game in order to properly play the game.1

psychounz✭✭✭At first, I agreed with this; I knew that I kept trying combos I'd tried before that didn't produce any results but I'd only remember that it didn't work immediately after I hit craft XD I wanted the Skyrim style graying out system.
However, then I realized, well... I guess it's more real if the game doesn't tell me that it doesn't work; I'd have to remember, or write it down... so I started writing it down. I've only written combos that don't work, that way I don't have a massive clutter of correct and incorrect combos.
An in-game system would be nice, ala the newer Myst games, but they'd have to design it so that opening your notes wouldn't close your currently open menu. If they added a window to alchemy where you could click and jot notes, that would work.
Or Skyrim's system.

✭✭I take notes on everything. Pretty much obsessively. I have a lovely new notebook just for the things that I try, find, enjoy and even players and Guilds I have had good experiences in dealing with...
...but even with all of that, I wouldn't mind seeing something akin to the greying-out system in place here, if only because there are quite a few combinations that don't work and unless you organise them alphabetically I have found that checking my notes soon becomes a chore. Phyrdrin✭✭✭✭As soon as I realized that this game didn't have the same sort of tracker of failed combos that Skyrim has, I knew I had to make something of my own. I started a worksheet in Excel. I am now at 16 Alchemy and it does help to have something to track it, but tabbing out of the game over and over not only ruins immersion as someone here previously mentioned but also puts a strain on my machine's resources. I often glitch and lag all over the place after getting back into the game. This forces me to either quit the Alchemy UI or relog - another set of problems altogether.
If you have an iPad with a note taking app, I suggest using that. Maybe a laptop. My problem is that I don't have a lot of space on my computer desk. This is why I believe that we should have some sort of note-taking tool in game. This would be useful not just for crafting but also for adventuring. It would be great if we could use this same tool to mark places on the map that we want to return to (for example, if we found a chest that we couldn't open or something else that we wanted to come and get at a later time).
Back to the Alchemy question - @Lupinemw I don't agree with you about being "spoonfed". How many fantasy books have you read where the mage/alchemist has a brilliant memory and remembers every single spell or potion he has made or can make? If you have a high intelligence score, it doesn't necessarily mean you have a very good memory. In fact, even Gandalf forgot a spell here and there. That is why spellbooks were invented :disagree: I am a biochemist IRL and we take note-taking to a whole new level. Nobody is ever expected to memorize every step of every process. Lupinemw✭✭✭@Phyrdrin yes you take notes I work in IT and I do the same. I don't have a system in RL that says no those two bits won't work together I either remember or look at my notes (or use google)
I feel that ESO is doing the same its forcing people to think and we should look at it as being a challenge and a good thing.

Elember✭✭✭The best potion I have come up with so far will restore Health, Magicka, and Stamina all at the same time. All three have an equal immediate restore and an over time restore.
To make it you need to use:
Bugloss
Columbine
Dragonthorn
Then just use the solvent you need for the level of potion you want to make.1 -

Part of the problem is that you get different results if you mix up the components.
Columbine, dragonthorn, and Bugloss might make the same identical portion as your combination or it might not and thus they don't stack.
Even results with the same identical stats and name don't always stack in this game. Not sure if that is a bug or as intended.
but at some point, you could get tired of trying 9 different combinations of the same three ingredients just to see if something new and different occurs.0
