Maintenance for the week of April 6:

Please allow us to select the gear we're farming for after 20+ runs

This game has never been less fun and more grindy (and yes, that includes coldharbour!) than when I've been farming for Rattlecage Flame Staff. Over 50+ over 3 days and you've dropped the ice staff more times than I have extra characters (6+) but for some reason the ONLY drop I've been looking for eludes me.
This is such a terrible design. You can reasonably expect farming for armors, hell even jewelry is way more common, but weapons are just so god awful in a saturated drop pool. Please for the love of god let us just get the thing we want after 20 runs.

I'd appreciate a token-based system similar to how Guild Wars 2 does it.

The transmutation system is less than a year old and makes grinding for the right trait unnecessary. You have had a bad run of rng though.

I've never had a SPC resto staff drop in any trait. It happens. We aren't meant to get everything we want. Learn to make due without.

Also I'm confused as to what having extra characters has to do with this.

Farm with a group. That's three more chances for the desired item to drop.

If you aren't having fun doing something, stop doing it. Figure out a way to make things work without the staff.

    Oh God please yes

I've tallied up 60 Maelstrom runs

I have no idea how many I've done that I did not record.

    Only one freaking winterborn ring.

Only one, and shouldn't it be a 17% drop chance?!

I farmed for bone pirate gear every night for an hour for over two weeks to get the weapons and jewelry I wanted.

My advice is to pick chests and only chests don’t bother with the bosses skip every fight possible while learning the most efficient route to each chest spawn. Leave the duengon when you’re finished and change the difficulty to reset. If I don’t get what I’m looking for on the first 4-5 runs log out or do something else or you’ll get burnt out quick.

This is nothing. Running with my daugther, we needed about 2 months to get a Rattlecage Flame Staff for her. And instead of heaving at least a bit of fun running on vet, of course we ran on normal to increase the number of runs to get the flame staff.

Farming just one thing for weeks or even months is increadibly boring...
in the end, my daughter finally got her flame staff, but lost interest in the game at all.

Me too. After several years, I finally gave up doing the dungeon.

    This does not help much.
A chance of perhaps 0.1 percent x 4 players still only means a chance of 0.4 percent....

That's why I prefer builds that allow some flexibility, so if I get a weapon for the other set, then that works too.

There are just items in this game you’ll never get. I main a Stam Sorc and I only pull vMA Inferno Staves. I have pulled so many infused staves. I just want the bow. I have been running 5-10 times a day for weeks and have not gotten the bow. But hey, if I ever decide to use my Magicka characters they’ll be stacked

I wish we could swap, I have the exact opposite problem. But hey all my stam characters have their own vma bow.

I have VoM memorized by the pixal. I soloed that place every day, about 6 or 7 times in a row on a damn pet sorc or a mag warden. You know what the best part was? I got the damn staff after i had enough pieces of Rattle and my other set to make it work and had golded out the other staves. Memorized by the pixal.

I would also like so see some sort of token system put in place.

Even if I would still have to transmute said item into said desired set bonus, I would be a lot happier with that than the way it is now, without a token system.

As has been said, the "Bind on Pickup" drops should be replaced with a token system. Make ten or however many seems balanced runs, get tokens, spend them to get the one thing you want. (traits and enchantments random, since you can change those with a bit more effort)

As a player you should not have to make do without it and forget it all together especially when it's a maelstrom staff, you cant "make do" without it or you will lose alot of dps. The drop system is stupid and it punishes players even more so when a player gives up after looking at the same walls over and over again. Its annoying as all helll.

Extra characters have nothing to do with it really, just trying to bring the point home the USELESS ice staffs have dropped so many times (including lightning and healing; don't worry) yet the SINGLE drop I need is semmingly never going to drop.

I'd prefer a token system too. If a guaranteed token each time you complete a run seems like too much they could do it like crown gems - trade in 2, 3, 5...however many other weapons from the same set to buy the one you want. That way you've still done more than enough to 'earn' it (since you've earned multiple equivalent weapons) and it serves the same purpose of making sure you will eventually get the item you want.

Yes players can just go without it and use something else instead. That's generally ok for an individual but IMO if your players are only ok with your reward system because they don't want/need the reward and give up on getting it that's not good game design. That's like saying "our road system is great - that junction no one can navigate isn't a problem because everyone knows to reroute their journey to avoid it now".

For me I grinded Fungal until I had all three sets I needed for my main (stamblade). The hardest part (besides the Kragh's shoulder that I needed keys for) was the almost nonexistent Dreugh King Slayer one handed weapons. It was convenient that every set I needed was in one place, but it did take forever either way. I'm happy to have some solid sets that I haven't replaced in over a year, though I know I'll have to grind vma some day
