No, but not in all caps because I don't feel that strongly about it. I just think it would risk lowering PvP population in other game modes too much at current participation levels. If those participation levels increase and remain stable enough to draw away for new game modes then I am super fine with the idea and may even enjoy it sometimes myself. Right now it would be like adding another battleground game mode : fun in principle but adding even longer queue times to the other modes in practice.

50 people are dropped off on a starter island map with nothing but a broom weapon and bucket helmet.

Heavy sacks and crates randomly scattered around the map will provide random gear and consumables to use only for the duration of the match.

We will, of course, call this the Pay To Lose Festival, a time-honored tradition of closing up shop and honoring the original namesake of Rash Merchant's Plummet by beating each other senseless.

Not everything has to be another iteration of the Hunger Games and its imitators like PUBG and Fortnite. Those games do what they do well but we don't need to be imitating them.

Wrong. One Cyrodiil instance never has “thousands” of people going at it at one time. You might have a few hundred at best during prime time.

I'm never going to set foot in Fort/PUB. So I can understand the resistance.

But PVP gets comparatively less content each year, so I'm not going to deny them more variations. Popular game modes can motivate people who don't like PVP to try a few rounds, and small scale PVP modes can grow their own robust sub-communities in a similar way competitive PVE content does.

And the current fad shooters weren't the first to invent these modes. Going back to Unreal Tournament, the game modes were Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch, Domination, Capture The Flag, Assault and Last Man Standing. UT2003 added stuff like Invasion and Bombing Run, the latter of which has been picked up by numerous games since. ESO calls it Chaos Ball.

People will still say ESO is knocking off whatever popular game is out at the time, but most modern entertainment is derivative of something else that came before it. And it's difficult to popularize a truly new idea so it's also risky business.

Prove me wrong. As someone who pvps regularly, there are never “thousands” of people going at it at once in a single instance of Cyrodiil. I’d like to know where you’re finding this great, thousand player+ pvp action though, because I haven’t seen that many people in a single campaign despite PvPing for years now.

A lot of the time, you’re lucky to see a couple of full groups running in each faction. Then you can factor in smaller pug groups that may be running around, as well as a couple handfuls of people that could be doing delves/skyshards in whatever campaign is in question. Add all that together and, again, you’ve got maybe a few hundred people going in one instance. Vicec on PC NA might have somewhat higher numbers, but it also has terribad lag whenever it does reach such numbers.

Definitely not. I can turn to one of the other games swaying with the wind if I want the flavour of the week.

I would however like to see focus on enhancing our current PvP modes.
