Suggestion on starting new players off in original beginning then letting them choose later

So, every time I am in Vvardenfell or Summerset there are new players in zone who are completely confused about where to start and unaware of their factions starting zone and they don't even know there is a main quest. My suggestion would be to always start new people out in the caverns on their first character, then when they create another character they can get a choice on where they want to start. Most players that I have run this idea across have thought it is a great idea. We just had the discussion in Vivec City zone while helping a new player understand where to go and how things work. I think that adding this would decrease the amount of confused new players and give players a choice on which intro they want to go through on each character.

I 100% agree, it's super confusing for a new character to be forced to start in the newest content. They don't know what's going on story-wise and many times that leads to a bad first impression.

I'm glad you and others are helping new people out when needed, we need more people like that.
    Cheers!

I am surprised that the very first character does not start out in the original starter zones.
Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

I totally agree. I really wish that had been the case for me. It took me almost a month of playing through Summerset content before figuring out (through other players and stuff on the forum) that the storyline was going to be screwed for me if I wanted to do all the other content too. So I've played half way through Summerset, then gone back to my faction starter island on my own to start the main quest and all the faction quests through. Things make much more sense now.

There's no information on this in the game at all, nothing from ZOS. When you start a new account you should have that explained to you, like you do when you get the option to skip the tutorial.

This would be lovely. Without the Coldharbor tutorial, things like the Vestige, skyshards, wayshrines, respawning after death, quest dialogue about not having a soul....none of it makes sense.

I agree too, I'm always explaining to people how to get a boat, get hit over the head etc to pick up the main quest, and some new players, are (quite understandably) totally confused. Also starting players off in Summerset, when that story comes after Morrowinds' is a bit crazy. I get confused myself and I've played since early access. It's tricky to try and explain to a totally new player all the different story arcs and how they mesh together with the main quest. I'm so glad I'm not starting the game now, I think I'd find it too overwhelming personally.

I completely agree. For various real life reasons I did not pick up ESO until just before Summerset and I got the pre-order which included Morrowind. My first character started off in Morrowind but as I had taken part in the open beta I knew that I was not starting in the right place. There's nothing to tell you that you need to or how to get back to your alliance's starting zone to pick up the main storyline quest either. I wandered around on VVardenfell doing a few quests until I finally looked up how to get back to my alliance's starting zone.

1000% agree. I been playing a month and this happened to me 3 times.

I bought that base game on XB for $4 to try it out. I enjoyed it so I bought the game on PC (summerset Pre-order)

When I made my Warden I was like WTH, where am now? Then a few days later summerset came out and I made a Alt and started out in a different area. I was so confused for a week lol

As I have said in many topics before that went completely ignored...

    @ZOS_GinaBruno @ZOS_Wrobel

    1. Remove Alliance Lock from Character Creation and PVE aspects of game.
    2. At character creation your Race choice determines your starting zone and main “faction” quest line.
    3. When beginning a campaign, choose your Alliance. Your account is locked to the Alliance you choose for the Campaign selected. This resets for the start of each Campaign.

Example: Campaign = “Vivec”, Alliance = “EP”, Result = All account characters are locked to the EP Alliance (In Vivec only) for the duration (30 days) of the current campaign.

    4. You can pay for Alliance change mid-campaign same as Abandoning/Changing Campaign, but you cannot participate in “Home Campaign” rewards/ranking and are marked with the “Traitor” title until end of current campaign.

That is a very good suggestion!

...which is why personally I for one would even go a step further then the OP, and start -all- characters in the old game, or at the very least detour them there automatically.

I mean, rewrite the tutorials so that all of them end up in coldharbour. And maybe write a few more, amking different tutorials per alliance... like, start in the Ebonheart Pact, get the "Firemoth isle" tuttorial, only at the end of it you get "rescued" by what turns out to be a worm cult group who drup you and sacrifice you to end up in coldharbour... if you start in the Aldmeri Dominion you go through the Summerset tutorial, but end up in coldharbour anyhow... and if you start in the Daggerfall Covenant... well, they would need a new tutorial for that I guess, but that should be doable, ending up in coldharbour as well. There could even be a seperate tutorial for imperial characters, detailing the takeover of the empire by the worm cult from their PoV...

And then present -everyone- with the classic questline... but thanks to "One Tamriel", those who know about the stuff and want to can bypass it and quest however they like.

I'd also concur with this: I've seen a non-trivial number of players absolutely confused, and unable to find the quest to start it even with clear directions in zone chat. That later makes me think they must be quite new, and not yet have worked out, eg, the quest marker system or the map.

Totally agree with this.. There are so many things that just aren't explained in the new starters.
