Nights to short?

Is it just me or do the nights feel non existent in this game. It feels like it’s always day time and it really bugs me. I prefer the night time, and wish they were as along as the day cycles. What do y’all think?

I honestly haven't noticed one cycle being longer than the other. Nine times out of ten, I'll queue up for a dungeon during one cycle, finish it, come back and it's the other cycle.

@TheGr8David I was just reading older threads and they were saying the night cycle is a 1 hour 30 min and the day is 5 hours. I just want longer night to enjoy

Every time I play it seems to be night lol. I hardly ever see the day.

As I recall, a full in game day is 5 hours and 40 minutes (though, it's been four years since I checked these numbers.) In game nights last for about two hours. I'm not sure the nights need to be longer, but... actually, stepping back a bit, I'm not sure they need to be synced at all.

So, right now, everyone sees the world at roughly the same time. Which, makes sense. You're wandering around, the world should be the same as the one everyone else is in for parity. Except... that's not entirely true. You see, weather is already handled locally. So, you can be standing in a rainstorm while another party member is enjoying clear skies.

To the best of my knowledge, there's only two systems that actually intersects with the in game clock. Werewolf/Bloodspawn spawns. And torchbug/butterfly spawns. (The former can only spawn at night, while the latter will alternate in day or night spawns.) Now, desyncing day/night would be kind of weird, but could open up some serious options. In particular, allowing vampire players the ability to wander around at night indefinitely.

Probably the most elegant way to handle this would be to grant the player the ability to force their time of day, probably in a new top layer options setting, and then either lock it, or adjust the duration of the day/night cycle to their preference. (Another option would be adding an actual interaction function to beds, granting players the ability to control their percieved day/night cycle while interacting with one.

So, what do you do about vampires and werewolves? If day/night is handled by the client, locally, you could actually manage the clock during quests or dungeons more than the game currently allows. In particular, some quests, (again dealing with vampires, werewolves, and other nocturnal monsters,) would make far more sense, if they could latch onto the clock and gradually tick it forward so that specific events happen at specific times of day/night. This also fits within the arcs of certain dungeons, (though it could make some speed runs a bit strange.) During the day, you would not be susceptible to infection, while at night, you could be infected by random spawns. And, again, because you control your time, this could be baked into the default werewolf/vampire behavior.

This would add a degree of control over "wild" infections.

It's a little more involved. But, honestly, the more I think about it, the less justification I have for a fixed day/night cycle out of the player's control, given how the game works overall.

It's hardly ever night, diminishing the worth of keen eye passive skills.

Also, I put all those damn lights in my gardens to enjoy them lighting up at night. The issue is exacerbated in player houses, here at least we should be able to turn on the time to whatever one we like.

IIRC, the reasoning is that there are already more than enough dark locations in the game; basically almost everything other than the open world.

If nights were as long as daytime, players would be most of the time in the dark.

Having said that... I think we could use an extra hour or so of nighttime.

Good for one of the vampires' passives, too.

If nights were as long as daytime, players would be half the time in the dark, not "most of the time" duh. What happened to logic?

Also, in the real world, at least in the parts not affected extremely by seasonal shifts, the "dark time" is usually around 8 hrs, with 8 hrs of sun, and 8 hrs of dawn/dusk/in between. I don't think asking for 1/3rd of the time being night is unreasonable.

Ssorgatem didn't refer to the overworld. Players spend a lot of time (many: most of their time) in dungeons and other areas that are dark all the time, regardless of the time of day. Having longer nights would mean that most players spend most of their time in the dark - either in night, or in caves.

I'm fine with the ratio. I have consciously logged out of the game to come back later because it was night and I don't like playing at night. :D Sure, it looks beautiful in some places, but the current night time is enough to appreciate that.

And I thought the nights were too long. Seems like every time I log in, it is night in the game. I don’t mind it if I am playing at night, but during the day, it is hard on my eyes to see anything when everything is so dark in the game.

I play in the evenings/nights in real life and it's always day time in the game. I hardly ever experience night time in the game, or at least i just don't pay attention to it. When I do notice it's night time, it doesn't seem to last longer than day time.

It would be nice if nights lasted longer. At least let us toggle night and day in our houses. Got all these lights and glowing things you can't even tell are on during the day.

I would personally like to have a way to toggle day/night/weather. I swear, every time I want to use an outfit station it's night, and those things are useless at night.
