Are people who sell Crown Store gifts for gold violating the TOS?

I saw someone advertising selling Crowns for gold in zone chat and was wondering if this is allowed or not. Seems like buying gold for real currency more or less. I would love to get some Crown Store stuff for gold but I don't want to break the rules and get banned.

Thank you in advance for replying.

no ZoS already stated that is indeed allowed.

Zenimax also said that it's "BUYER BEWARE" and you can get scammed. So protect yourself. Take pics if you can. Not sure how you can protect yourself against scammers but if you plan to be very careful.

    *edit*

Just like in real life and in ESO universe, people are shaddy and you can very well be scammed and not get recompensated.

Use ingame chat and save screenshots. If you get scammed send a ticket and GM will help, probably get your gold/crown back.

These sorts of threads are becoming as confusing as the replies from ZOS to questions about them. The title talks about the trading of crown store items for gold through the official gifting system, while the original post talks about selling crowns for gold through zone chat. Two very different things.

The only way to give somebody crowns in game is to purchase a crown item and gift it to them which is "okay" by zos. However if you were to give someone gold and they were to give you money outside of the game for instancevia gift cards, paypal, or any other outlet. That would be against the ToS and zos's policy.

Thus the title is correct, and the opening post incorrect. Hence my point about these topics being confusing! This one confuses two very different things, one of which is legal and one of which is not.

The easiest way to think of this is once you spend real money on a crown, the crown is worth 0$ in real world money. The crown is an in game item than can no longer be exchanged for anything outside of the game.
