Trying to switch to ganking, someone please teach me how to use cloak before I lose my mind.

Whenever i try to cloak in any given PVP situation it never works. Plain and simple, 9/10 times i waste magicka and NOTHING happens.

Yet i see milions of stamblades constantly getting away and running away with virtually 0 effort. How?

I hear unbelieveable stories about NBs being OP and never dying and killing everything. Doing BGs at 50-1 K:D Ratio. How come whenever i try to gank its more like 1-50.

Don't ask me about a build please, just take any build on Alcast or some other streamer's cause it never works on any build i ever tried in my entire time spent in ESO.

first - calm down and breathe.

second: there are a few things you need to know.

    1. Sloads has made cloak much more unreliable. And since sloads is extremely prevalent in BG's, it is likely you aren't able to cloak right now becuase you have sloads on you. While the patch will fix this, in the interim, i recommend you actually run purge. Otherwise, you will not be able to cloak.
    2. As a nightblade, everyone knows your major defense is - cloak. As such, once you pop on someone, if you are not able to kill them quickly and re-enter stealth, they are going to actively work to keep you out of stealth and not re-enter. This means your window is extremely small and you require burst. You must get in, burst a target, and get out or you will be held out of cloak via the following: Aoe abilities (like volative amor, spin 2 win, hurricane), stealth detect pots, mark, sloads, etc..

I run the following build and bars: Skoria/sheer venom/bone pirate with master's bow back bar.

    2h bar: rally/surprise attack/crit rush/fear/executioner - incap

    bow bar: poison inject/relentless focus/cloak/vigor/purge - barrier

i enter combat with poison injecct, gap close, surprise attack and incap/execute. if the target isn't dead, im dodge rolling and trying to re-enter cloak. if i'm dotted, i purge and then re-enter. with the sets i'm wearing (in no bg's) i have 1300 mag recovery and 2k stam recovery. this is enough to use efficient purge and re-enter cloak as necessary. U need tri-pots in the really tough moments to chain together some magicka recovery if you really need to purge and multi-cloak.

hope this helps. it's a double edged sword on nightblade. if you aren't killing quick enough it means you are out in the open and visible for longer... which gives the enemy more time to use counters to negate your re-entry to cloak. plus sloads - a real killer to cloak at the moment.

Some things that help/options you may want to take. Vampirism gives you stamina regen and fast sneak speed at stage 4. This greatly helps with getting away.

Take forward momentum instead of rally. Pop Forward then cloak to reduce snares. Purge then cloak. Drop a shadow image port to it then cloak. Can be lots of fun when you get good at it.

Learn how to pot cloak hard counters.

Jewelry comes in swift now, have someone make you a crafted set with the swift trait or switch it yourself in clock work city. This will increase your sneak speed. You want to cloak and put distance between yourself and the target.

Don't be predictable take the paths less traveled. They will expect you to cloak to safety sometimes if you cloak and go deeper into enemy territory it throughs them for a loop.

Line of sight and then cloak. Hey it may require some skill to after all before you cloak out. LOS the target and then cloak. Try to stun and then cloak.

Cloak isn't something you can just cast by itself to escape a fight. You need to gain distance from your target and use misdirection to break away, or else they'll keep pulling you out of Cloak. Keep up Shadow Image and the rest is stuff you learn over time.

Well... was just eliminating that option.

Overall the thing about uses shadowy disguise as a defensive option is that you can't just press the button and think it's the solution (I'm not mocking you btw). If you aren't a vampire with a speed buff, nearly every class that has an aoe is going to use it where you were and reveal you. Anyone using magelight or detect pots will as well.

The best way of using shadowy disguise is with a speed buff up and right after a dodge roll so you can create some distance.

If you are playing a stamblade with bow offbar (or main bar) what you need to get used to doing is dodge rolling on the bow bar and immediately using shadowy disguise to reposition or evade. If the situation is a lost cause and you are trying to use it to get out of combat... double take + shadowy disguise + tripot will allow you to get out of most problems, even zergs.

Don't just cloak, use sneak as well whenever it's possible to conserve magicka (common mistake I see when watching other people stream/play stamblade) & avoid cloaking when there's players near you or when Curse/POTL is about to go off.

Playing a stealth oriented build isn't as easy as some people on the forums & elsewhere make it sound like, even experienced "gankers" make mistakes.

Thank you my friend you are living breathing example for those that are biased and love to say nb are such easy class to get kills and cloak being so incredibly broken, And yes my friend you will see nb's easily slipping away and scoring kills, but like every class you will see players that know the class inside out and make it look easy like streamer's and youtubers, but the truth is that no matter the class it takes practice and dedication and that aplies to all clases.Sorry to break it 2 u but it is not a one button get away or kill easy like most people picture here... according to the vast majority of nb haters in this forum just by playing a nb even without experience you will merge victorious in every situation... My best advice practice practice practice and more practice you will get it eventually.

You have to be very elusive in order to capitalize on cloak. Misdirection is one way, and spam it until you reach a safe location, then make sure you are crouched while in cloak. Stay in place if you can and cloak once again. That's how I play in CYRO. In BG's I don't run cloak, but I run aspect of terror. I would also advise having a considerable amount of magicka to cloak and re-engage with surprise attack. Try the play style of cloaking and moving to the back of the enemy. Use double take, or debilitate for CC and increased speed to reach that spot. You have to apply pressure on the enemy, otherwise they will apply it to you.

I agree though. I'm just pointing out exactly that.

NBs are not as easy cheese as everyone says they are. I'm having tons of problems and struggles. I never treated the skill as 1 button guaranteed getaway either. It obviously requires akill, the question is.... How do I use it.

I found when starting a NB; relying on cloak makes you worse. Learn shadow image and less of a ganker, more of a brawler first to survive long enough to use shadow image effectively. Add in cloak as a last resort. Ganking you need to play fast which means not much time to get a feel for what people will do to keep you from cloaking. Slow it down

I know you don't think it is a 1 button I win class, sorry for making it look like that it was not my intention please forgive me for that, but I am sick and tired of the people always that paint any class op when they fight against any competent player and loose... and lately a bunch ppl had been on vendetta with nb's for the past 6 months...nerf this nerf that. It is not the class that is killing you perhaps a good player maybe? But they don't take the time to learn the class but he'll yeah let me complain in the forum anyway lol. But I would love for those people on that smearing campaign against nightblades to come here and teach my friend how easy it is to play it and then you will laugh histerically with all the unrealistic absurdity they will post here lol.

Anyway if you are on Xbox I'll gladly give you a hand, I will warn you I am an average nb but I like helping ppl out :) and I'm also a master crafter

Have you just tried not ganking and learning to play your class? I'm not trying to be mean or condescending but the ganking playstyle as a main way of PvP will short change you in the long run. Being built to kill afk, unbuffed, targets who aren't paying attention or are already being hit by multiple people is just sad.
There's nothing inherently wrong with ganking but if that's all a player can do then I'd suggest putting your resources towards improving overall in PvP.
Things like the one button snipe spam playstyle is just, meh.

if your cloak fails chances are it will fail again and again, dont spam it and place your shadow image with a roll cancel and then enter crouch mode and strafe left/right toward the first LOS you see and then cloak, from there if you cant cloak away sprint and then use your shadow image and that should do it. if you are marked go into crouch mode and while the eye is closing use efficient purge at the right timing so you enter stealth right as the mark gets cleansed off you.
    1. get invis pots
    2. learn how to use shadow image ( when you are stealthed you can use shadow image followed by invis pot and no1 will see you place the image )
    3. get efficient purge
    4. block high damage abilities and dodgeroll towards terrain that helps you
    5. once you gank 2/3 people change up your spot and use detection pots to scout for people stalking you
if you do all those things correctly you are pretty much unkillable

Started reading through and realized you are stamina...

I've got a magicka "gank style" NB but can't help you with stamblade.

I do recommend Swift jewelry on all cloaking NBs though - I think it would be beneficial to stamina also.

You don't need cloak to gank, just sneak. If and when your gank doesn't work, you may need cloak to help you escape, but I wouldn't rely on it - too many things break cloak and lag is a factor in being able to timely cloak. When it works, cloak is a helpful escape tool, but so are a lot of other things. The bottom line is this: you really don't need cloak to gank, nor do you need it to escape. (my comments assumed your gank build is/will be stamina based).

As odd as this might sound, being a vampire is much more helpful when it comes to ganking than being a NB (comes with experience). Yea, there's that fire thing with vamps, but gankers don't engage in 'pvp combat' (they engage in 'pvp hit-and-run'), therefore, increased damage from fire shouldn't be an issue.
