Are we going to have to zone out to receive mail forever?

It's been a "feature" from day 1. I imagine the fix is too much work so we'll never get one. One of the drawbacks to using a crappy game engine.
You've complained about the engine choice for a while, but pretty sure the front-end graphics engine wouldn't impact the (seemingly) intentional decision to have client-side caching prevent mail from being received more than once every few min. Pretty sure this is just weird UI being weird.

My observation is that the client mailbox seems to only check or refresh every 5-ish min. It does feel like opening your mail actually resets this count though thus if you 'open to check' things take even longer. Zoning appears to clear it.

There's probably some additional weird logic but at least seems to be vaguely what happens.

They don't know how to fix it
If they were serious about the in-game mail feature, they'd have given us a proper in-game mail feature.
Even on the internet, clear communication is important; it can be the difference between "helping your Uncle Jack off a horse" and "helping your uncle jack off a horse"; the difference between "knowing your s***" and "knowing you're s***".

They'll get around to it eventually
This issue doesn't seem as bad as it used to be - I sometimes get mail delivered to me without changing zones, where in the past, I had to move to a different zone any time I wanted to check if I've received mail. Now it seems like it's about 50% of the time.

Too many other issues on their plate
Pretty much all of the above.

They have too many other bigger issues on their plate, so they don't feel like devoting the man-hours to fixing it. And since they haven't devoted the time to it, they likely don't even know how to fix it yet. And I'm fairly confident that they'll get around to it eventually.

I'll go ahead and echo others by saying that I'd rather they not even try to fix it, since we all know that the fix will break multiple working systems. It's really just a minor inconvenience right now.

Worked last night. Still have "this may be an unusually long load time".
