WHY is there nearly 25gb of game bloat? Please make it optional!

Going into the steamapps->Zenimax Online-> The Elder Scrolls Online and you'll see extra vo_de and vo_jp (IIRC) along with the vo_en. All of which are voice over folders. Since I speak English, the Japanese and presumably Denmark? voice overs are not needed. Between the jp and de folders, there's nearly 21gb of bloat.

Game doesn't seem to care if all these files are deleted (leave the cutscene one alone and do NOT touch the language you speak vo folders). So why are they forced into the install? I understand forcing the intros (which can actually be disabled in an .ini file or just deleted outright but not from any settings as far as I can see) but WHY are the other language vo files forced?
For those of us running a partitioned SSD, every gb matters.

AdicusDio✭✭✭OK, need to make a correction. Game doesn't seem to care about the vo_jp and vo_de folders. However, during the patch just now, it needed a repair, and reinstalled ALL the video files. There are French, Japanese, and Demark video .bik files. One for each language x4. So a 300mb video for English carries 300mb for fr, jp, and de. All told, nearly 3gb in the folder. All of which the game hasn't been caring if they are there during boot up (I've left the cutscene one alone as I don't recognize the event it shows).
PLEASE stop forcing this garbage. After 1400+ hours in this game, I don't need to see the logos nor the intros, and I definitely don't need the French videos and other translations wasting space on the SSD, and have to assume others feel the same if they are/were aware. What AdicusDio said it looks like you can BUT it will get reinstalled next patch. Then it looks like you will need to REPAIR it since the patch will "break" the game and then it will just be reinstalled again. So NOT WORTH THE EFFORT since it will be redownloaded again.Not my quote but I love this saying

If they were truly smart they would sell different versions for languages and different patches and cut the game size considerably.

✭✭✭Oh and if during patch download you gat an "unzip file manifest" failure, that's probably not 100% what it says...…..
But you get a warning and a prompt to repair....
Just close the launcher and re-open the repair message will go away and the download will continue

That's what happen when a company focuses on pumping out DLCs and Crown Store items to sell. Optimization and QoL gets left out.

✭✭✭✭✭Also, i haven't checked lately but in the early days of ESO, whenever something changed in a *.dat file, no matter how small the change was, they always made you re-download the whole dat file.
They range in size from a few meg to 1GB with most of them in the 200-300 meg range.
Not sure if they ever got around to implement partial/incremental updates but talk about patch bloat ...

AdicusDio✭✭✭The vo_ files don't seem to redownload after a patch. The video files are a different story but 2gb video vs. 18gb+ vo_ is negligible if the workaround "close launcher" at the repair prompt doesn't work. That might be a good fix for the video files.0

Must be a steam thing. I don't have those folders. I just have depot, game, and vo_en. Also, my vo_en folder is only 9GB.

✭✭✭This is what happens when 90% of your team work on the crown store. Easy to fix this so you only have to download what you need and lower the amount in other areas but ZOS do not see it worth doing or hiring someone who know's what they are doing....

I agree that there should be a way to only download the files you actually need and I'm surprised Steam players don't get that. Is there maybe an option somewhere in Steam itself to specify which languages you want? Or (if anyone's willing to test) maybe if you completely delete and re-download the game it will pick up only the EN files.

An American biscuit is what the British would call a scone. Except scones are typically sweeter and have raisins in them, but savoury scones do also exist. Also they're normally eaten on their own as a snack or dessert with butter or cream and jam (jelly), absolutely never with chicken and gravy.

It covers everything from savoury crackers like the ones eaten with cheese (as in cheese and biscuits) to small, plain sweet cookies, or things which are literally small cookies with chocolate chips or other additions sold in packs. A dumpling is entirely different. That's a lump of savoury dough (sometimes with herbs and other flavouring) served with stew or casserole (or occasionally roast dinner), very similar to Caribbean dumplings.
And finally in Britain a berliner is considered a type of doughnut.

And english is here because I changed the game language, originally, there was only french.

The only that that changes is the method of starting through Steam and the actual (lack of) login process itself.
I've a standard and steam version on the same machine. The Steam version is simply symbolically linked to the standard, so it doesn't download/update twice, nor does it require two copies of addons.
EDIT: If you look at the standard, you'll even see the steam files present - they simply never get accessed.
