Xbox One - Left Joystick Bug (UP/DOWN)

It only happens every so often but occasionally I'll load into a zone and my left joystick does not function properly going UP and DOWN.

It's not just limited to character movement either; it's the menus and map also. The only fix is to close the game and start it back up.

I've had that issue with gamepads since analog sticks existed. It's almost always caused by the same thing.

Joysticks have a center location and wear out over time so they don't come back to fully center, often causing camera/movement creep.
A joystick that is registering movement when a game is loaded, because it isn't back to center, is often considered at center at that point so that it no longer responds to that directional command in the game.

    Workarounds:
    1) Do not hold the left stick in any way when in a loading screen or especially when starting up the game because this will likely cause this.
    2) Only way to fix a worn out stick is a controller replacement, unless you somehow know how to open yours up and repair the mechanism without breaking it or something else.

I don't buy used controller for this reason, most of them have a worn out stick with "creep" and issues registering starting the game because of it.

Your issue could be something else, but this is an idea. You could try another gamepad to verify, which would be standard troubleshooting to eliminate the easy to test variables.

I had a similar issue. Unfortunately I had to buy a new controller but now it’s working fine.

Thank you for the input. I've experienced this on two different consoles, two different controllers (one brand new).

This is strictly when changing zones on occasion, and requires a reload of the game. No issues when navigating the Xbox menus or when I return to the game.

I actually broke by own stick on a gamepad recently that caused some of the issues I mentioned above in another way.
I dropped my controller off my rocker/recliner(so comfy) and accidentally rocked right onto it when trying to retrieve it and the left stick was forced up so hard that it created an indent on the forward side so it now sticks every time I push full forward and isn't releasing on its own. "Poor man's auto-run" sucks any other time.
I luckily had a newer replacement controller waiting because the one was before the bluetooth option.

This is on PC for me.

Strange one... sounds like a game issue. My Xbox controller was stuffing up on PC and basically doing exactly what you said - menus moving up and down, map moving up randomly etc. I changed the cable a few times and sometimes that worked but eventually just got a new one and a wireless adapter and it’s fine, so I just figured it was the actual controller...

Sorry I can’t help much more!
