This link found it's way to me earlier today. Report is from earlier this week. Steam is not really ranking the games, but ESO is placed in the "Gold" section, which is part of the top 24 titles.

(It was also in the Gold section for 2017: http://store.steampowered.com/sale/2017_best_sellers/ )

It should be top 25, ESO is an amazing game and beats the stuffing out of any other mmo out now. ZOS is incompetent and potential buyers need to be aware of that, but it still managed to grow into something great despite the neglectful parents

    ESO gets an A+
    ZOS gets an F

Hard to say that it's a top selling game since it's ALWAYS on sale. Have it at full price then see if it's good. Also while they made the sales, are people playing it?

Congratulations either way to Zenimax to a job well done in sales. Now keep the people playing and improve the game instead of the store.
Not my quote but I love this saying

It's a shame that Steam players experience issues. Negative reviews are only logical in situations like this.

Nah, it's because you can buy hundreds of hours worth of content for $10 with ESO yet Final Fantasy has a subscription fee so only dedicated MMO fans that enjoy quality and proper treatment will play it. $15 monthly versus $10 one time fee. You're going to see more low income players in ESO and they make up the majority of the planet's population.

Also I like how Warframe, another MMO, is in the top sellers despite being free to play. It and Dota 2 are the only ones without a price tag in the platinum tier.

ESO probably has some of the best game developers in the industry right now. Is the game perfect? No. Have they made some mistakes? Yes. Do they have work to do? Yes. Still, they are well above par, by my book. I'd love to see the game they could make if they were unleashed.

This is precisely my point. Thank you.

ESO is getting a "Mixed" rating on Steam not because the game is bad, but because Steam people can't connect to the game. A fair complaint, but not reflective of the whole game.

Warframe probably has the best F2P system in any game I have ever played and the Developers actually care for the customers unlike some other companies who install spyware, lower discounts, and raise prices. Not only that but I have never had a single problem with it on steam unlike other games. Plus it has tennogen which makes playing it on steam worth it if you like to buy stuff.

ESO and Final Fantasy doesn't really have any perks for being on steam other than convenience so I can see why they would be much lower even if you exclude the fact that Warframe usually has an event or new items/content every week or two while ESO doesn't.

Also Zo$ is way to lenient on cheaters and botters, a company this large should really set an example for other smaller companies and show them its not ok to cheat, hack, or bot in online games tbh.

What would be really sad is if it isn't the fault of ZOS, at all. There are two parties here, and either (or both) of them could be at fault. While ZOS is taking the heat, it might be Valve that is the problem. We just don't know, and probably never will.

I always find it amusing when people say how amazing ESO is and how great it's become but slam ZOS at the same time. It couldn't be what it is without them, and whilst it's not all smooth sailing, we have the greatness because of them as well.

Glad to see it ranked up there on Steam, I think the games found a place and way to reach a lot of people who enjoy different aspects of play now.

Probably a result of the lack of communication and lack of response cheating and botting as well as inconsistencies across the board. Plus, you know, the crown store stuff.

I criticize ZOS a great deal, but the fact that the game continues to grow, both numerically and content-wise, after the near death experience of 2014 is really impressive. Moving to Tamriel Unlimited, which I still hate, did save the game and was necessary.

It's very hard to fix a game and a terrible release without completely burning down the house and starting over (which is what Square had to do), so credit on that.

Do I like their games? Yes. Do I pay a lot of money to play them. Yes? Would I herald their devs as the greastest thing since sliced bread? Nope.

I do have to admit EA was the worst company 2017, by pushing a game that was claimed to be finished but was found out it was still in beta testing even, and also the fact they called off content updates on it ever since that was announced and made it a dead end.

For a company as large as EA that was a really shady move, so got to hand it to Zo$ they didn't pull that crap atleast.

I’m not ragging on ZOS and ESPECIALLY not Bethesda as I love their games. I buy their games. I play their games.

I like EA’s games. Rockstar is a bit dochey about their games. I love how Bethesda has embraced a healthy modding community. I decry the reason WHY they had to embrace modding. Rockstar doesn’t because they don’t HAVE to. If they do it’s begrudged.

If paying money and what you bought WORKS is the metric by which one measures quality of game development, it’s an easy task to pick a clear winner.

ZOS has the best developers in the gaming industry is a mite hyperbolic lol

I stand by my statements. ZOS managed to score some of the best game developers in the industry. The end result is a group of game developers that is, or was, well above average across all the games that I have played.

I am deliberately not comparing ZOS to other studios, or ESO to other games. The comparison to Rockstar is very nice. I am sure they have some of the best game developers in the industry, too. I don't care.
