Another What Class and Race you play and why thread

I am looking to make a new character. Not sure what to do yet. I am not asking why I should pick this or that. All I want to know is, what is your character's race and class, and why did you choose it. Was it because it's easier to play? Maybe it's hard to play and shouldn't have been done? Maybe you like the looks of the race or history and choose a class that is easy/hard to play? I know some people play a race/class because it's the "ultimate" build and therefore easy to play. Others do the opposite for a challenge. Others play for the love of the race and or class. Of course there is other reasons to play they way you do.

I am hoping to read why people play race/class that I can choose and find something that I haven't seen on the internet because I am tired of reading "this is the best build" and just want to see other reasons why people play they do. Maybe your imagination will inspire my imagination and do something different than what I am playing now.

I play an Argonian Nightblade, purely because they’re my favourite race. In terms of the class, I’ve had him since launch and didn’t really know much about the class system back then, it was pretty much just a case of pick a class and learn how to play it.

I play a few, but my main's a khajiit warden. Khajiit because they're my favourite race and warden because I like ice abilities. Not really much else to it.

#1, Race doesnt matter. Be who you want to be.

#2, Class does of course, cause itll be the gameplay style you want to play. Nightblades for high single target damage and stealth but crap AoE. Sorcerers for delicious shock AoE as a Mag or Physical DoTs as Stam. DK's are massive Poison DoTs as Stam or some hard to master but fun Fire damage as Mag. And Templars, either as a big Healer or an Aoe/Single Target combo of either attribute. I dont speak for Wardens as i never play one.

I play a Bosmer Nightblade Tank. I like tiny tanks and I like to sneak.

A Bosmer Templar Healer. I wanted to be a spinner/ nature healer and wardens didn’t exist at that time.

And a Bosmer Warden Tank. This is the class I always wanted to play from the start (healing! Pets! Nature effects!) and making him a tank also satisfies my need for my tank to be tiny.

I’m on the fence with my Imperial Templar Tank. He’s very traditional, and he kinda sorta looks like me...

I have abandoned alts that are Breton sorcerer, and Imperial dragon knight. They’re lvl 50 with a lot of stuff in their past so I don’t delete them just in case those classes actually become interesting to play in the future.

    Race makes a substantial difference.

For magicka DPS, let's say your max magicka is 35,000 before racial passives are applied. An Altmer, Breton, or Dunmer will jump up to 38,500 magicka when you apply passives while all other races would remain at 35,000. +3500 magicka is a huge amount. That's the equivalent of ~330 spell damage. The 5-piece bonus for Necropotence is +3100 max magicka, and that's considered one of the best set bonuses in the game. The Apprentice Mundus Stone gives you +363 spell damage (unbuffed) and is considered the best Mundus Stone for group content. You get that much magicka/spell damage for free here just from racial passives.

You can absolutely be effective with any race, but you can be a lot more effective with a race designed to excel in whatever role you're trying to fill.

It's all about the passives, pick your Play style and go from there.

Magblade? Go High Elf / Breton.
    MagDK? Go Dark Elf.
Stamsorc? Go Wood Elf / Khajit.
    Tank? Go DK / Argonian.
Healer? Go Breton Templar / Warden.

It all depends on the build you want.

    Favorite Race: Breton

First race I ever picked in Daggerfall, and still my favorite due to my tendency to play as a Mage most of the time :p

    Main Class in ESO: Warden

I switched to the Warden class when Morrowind dropped. It was a class that I longed for ever since I learned that it didn't make the final cut during beta and when I tried it out during the PTS, I fell in love with it. And even now, I still love to play a MagDen in this game. My Druid :p

Currently have an Alter Magblade because it was BiS at the time.

If Maelstrom is ever kind to me and I get an inferno staff I will be race changing to Dunmer because its BiS.

My very first character was an argonian Dragonknight on the EU server; I didn't have the first clue about classes or roles at the time, since I was new to both TES and MMO games; I read a little bit about Argonians, and they seemed to have a cause to fight, and I just liked the sound of 'Dragonknight' However, shortly afterwards I swapped to the NA server, and my first character there was an Altmer DK, because I prefered how High Elves looked. This was when the VR system was still in place-- I was terrible at playing the class, eventually hitting a wall around level 18 in terms of progression, and giving up. When I picked up the game again a few months later, I created a new character just to see if it would make a difference, and this became my main character, an Altmer magsorc.

On hindsight, I'm glad I got to learn the game with my magsorc, because it's an all-around great class to do solo content with, and the high elf racial passives are nicely suited to it. I have done a lot of content with my main, and there aren't many situations that can't be dealt with, because sorcs have a lot of utility as a class. I eventually created characters for almost all class specs, and in most cases, I picked a race that's suited to the class/role, unless I didn't particularly like the look of the 'recommended' race, because I think it's better to be content with how your character(s) looks, since you are going to be spending a lot of time with them, than choosing a race only because they are recommended for a class spec. The same goes for class and role: if somebody likes a class's playstyle, but it's not the best class for a given role (for instance a magden DD), I don't think they should give up on it solely for that reason. Luckily, I think ESO is flexible in this regard, and the majority of the content can be completed by all class specs, given knowledge of mechanics and experience with the class-- it might be true that some fights can use skills from cerain class specs, but that's too niche and a small part of the game to make someone choose a race/class spec they don't really enjoy.

My suggestion is: try a class and race that you like how it looks and plays, and see how you get along with it. And if you ever feel you need to change your race in the future, for min-max reasons for example, there is always the race respec option as well

I play a Bosmer magplar healer and wouldn't change a thing.

Bosmer is pure RP, they make small targets and she likes being the smallest healer on the battlefield. Healer best reflects her nurturing nature. Templar was her class long before Warden; that said, the divine light magic of the Templar better suits her than the neon mushrooms and ice of the Warden.

    High Elf Magic Pet sorc.
Why? - Because I use to play a Warlock in WoW and this was the closest thing to it. Plus the high elf has passives that help with magic regen. Plus it's was my first class and the clanfear tanking mad lower leveling a breeze.

    Dark Elf Magic Dragonknight
Why? - Because sometimes I just want to watch the world burn. Dark elf passive to fire damage is sweet. And i love the look of him.

    Wood Elf Stamina Nightblade
Why? - PvP snipe ganking. Fun times. Waiting for Midyear Mayhem to kill some fresh meat.

    Khajiit Stamina Nightblade
Why? - To play the Dominion story line and all quest really as a Queens Eye and enjoy the story as a stealthy assassin working for the Queen as well as tge Thieves Guild and Dark Brotherhood questlines.

    Redguard Stamina Dragonknight
Why? - He's my Werewolf build. I have built him to be able to solo all content as well as Vet Maelstrom arena easily. He's using Werewolf form 90% of the time and I love him. Waiting on this new Werewold dlc to drop so he can get a much needed buff.

My main is a Imperial Warden, at the time of making him i had said this will be the last one i make and going to choose the race i want, also i find the imperial very versatile when i comes to switching from PVP/ PVE and DPS/ Tanking as i like to play around with builds. I have since made another 3 wardens :|
