Expectations of DPS players in pugs

There’s lots of noise about this right now. So list yours. Let’s see just what people expect of the average PUG DPS players in vet dungeons. Let’s see just what expectations are. Are we overly demanding.

Myself I expect-

No more than 22k health
No sword and board
15k single target
The use of AOE skills on trash
Actually rezzing people who die
Getting out of the red

That’s it. To me that’s fairly lenient.

List yours.

-Light attack fast and hard and a lot
-Dodge roll around as much as possible
-Hop around a lot during combat if possible
-Get in the Boss's face and stay there to show they are masters of their environment
-Throw in a taunt every now and then to give tank a break and show their team-player spirit
-Kill every single monster and skip nothing to keep skills sharp.
-Alternatively run past all mobs and fight large piles on bosses. This is also a legitimate way of staying sharp.
-If they die it's obviously the healers fault, so keep head up after dying

    Normal dungeons:
    Nothing

    Vet base game dungeons:
    10-15k dps
At least some understanding of what rotation is
    No 1h&shield
    15-23k health
    Avoiding enemy attacks

    Vet DLC dungeons:
    All of the above
    At least 20-25k dps
    Willingness to understand mechanics

Although I never pug dungeons anymore, these would be my expectations.
    PC EU - Ebonheart Pact
Resdayn Indoril, Dunmer Magicka Nightblade - Main

Pactum Dunmeri | Ard Feainn | Aetherius Art | Kley Guild

    Achievement points: 26k+

Don't care? Unless its a vet dlc which I'd never pug.

    My expectation to any pug-player:

    1) can read and write
    2) has a bit of an idea what he or she is doing - if not, is willing to do (1) read and write - especially about mechanics ;)

I can solo or duo all normal dungeons, some with healer-backup. but its no fun, so its also no fun if some group just ignore group and do it like 4 solo players in same area...

Normal, don't really gaf tbh. The other 3 are just a bonus. Vets, again, not really bothered other than if one of the dps continuously uses a heavy ice staff attack. Before i made my tank, I must admit i never really paid much if any attention to who taunted what. But it's amazing how many dps players taunt bosses and continue to do so after asking them to stop. If they're not going to stop, then stop running all over the place and stop complaining when they die.

My only hard requirement: Don't use a taunt. You get one warning/explanation and after that, "You taunt it, you tank it."

Don't taunt or run ahead of the tank if one is present.
Know or be willing to learn mechanics.
Eat some friggin food so the healer has more breathing room.
Stop running away from mobs, bring them to the tank. Running will not save you, you'll just get stabbed in the back instead of your face.
Stop jumping around. This isn't pvp, and your healer is trying to buff you.
Stay in front of the healer, but not in the line of fire.
Realize that you are not the only one in the dungeon, and have some patience. If you want to solo it at light speed, go solo it.
If you're a dps who queued as a tank, slot a taunt and be able to handle the role. Someone's going to have to take aggro, the bosses don't just stop attacking 'cause you're selfish and don't want to wait. I'm not asking for perfection, just a certain amount of follow through.

Most of these I give a little wiggle room for - unless you're intentionally being a *** in chat or ignoring instructions.

I don't have any expectations for dps - most of the dungeons can be completed, albeit slowly, with very little dps and I know the average player isn't going to be able to pull off 15k which is not needed for non dlc normals anyways.

It's a pug. My expectation is that they port into the dungeon and are able to move. Anything above and beyond that is a bonus. If I want a teammate that can actually do anything, I would never pug the slot out.

I have a guildmate who pugs regularly as tank/ healer and when he does he rages at the dds and then comes and rages to us about how bad his experience was.

It is a great source of amusement for me and my guild mates as he seems to be the most unfortunate pugger ever or more likely he expects way too much from pug groups.

I honestly do not have a lot of bad experiences in pugs. If I am in a poor pug group i find the vast majority of people respond well to positively structured advice and because of it I have rarely had groups that had to kick someone and most times if someone is kicked it's the guy badmouthing others as opposed to the guy doing bad damage or ignoring mechanics because those guys almost always appreciate learning a bit about mechanics or the dungeon they are in.

So for me the only thing I expect is no chip on shoulder, god complex, or aversion to taking instruction. Anything else is fixable with the right attitude. If you have any of those then most likely you are far too used to being carried in dungeons and can't handle a bit of extra graft to get it done.

More importantly unlike my guild mate, I think everyone joining a pug group should not have an expectation of a no death speed run finish and should come with an open mind that you might just maybe need to put in a shift to help someone who is learning. Get over yourself and give a little back.

If you can't give a little back then be humble enough to take some direction because honestly if you cannot carry a group through a vet dungeon then I am afraid you are not all that you think you are.

Assuming there is a competent tank and healer in the group:

    1. Don’t stand in stupid.
    2. Don’t use a sword and shield.
    3. Don’t use a restoration staff.
    4. Don’t use frost staff heavy attacks if you’ve invested in the taunt passive.
    5. Don’t deal damage that is equal to or less than the amount of damage dealt by my mag tank, who wears Ebon/Seducer/Infernal Guardian.
    6. Don’t light attack your way through the entire dungeon.
    7. Don’t attempt vet DLC dungeons with only 10k health.
    8. Don’t ignore the advice and instructions of veteran players who have run the dungeon literally hundreds of times.
    9. Don’t use your Cyrodiil build.

I only pug dungeons as a DPS, and I only queue for dungeons I know I can solo with a meat shield or two.

So my expectation list is pretty short:
    1. Be a meat shield.

If you show willingness to learn, I’ll help you learn some basics. But that’s extracirricular.

    My expectations?
    - Minimum of negative 1-20k DPS (to heal the enemy, of course)
    - Stand in red.
    - Not blocking when an enemy is about to heavy-attack your derriere.
    - Have a lot of poise.
    - Try to out-DPS the mechanics.
    - Sing in Voice Chat.
    - Dodge roll like there's no tomorrow, like in Dark Souls.
    - Practise your parries.
