Levels on the forum

Sorry to ask this, but what do levels do on the forum? Do they have a use or do they just show that you participate on the forums often?

They're meaningless fluff for people who wear their ego on their sleeves.

    Guilty.

When you get to 10 stars, you can see postings written by other people on the forum. Maybe that happens before 10 stars. I can't remember.

meaningless, of no significance or importance.

make enough posts and you will get stars whether you want them or not.

It's basically a complicated post count: you gain stars through a combination of posts and the reactions to them (agree, awesome, insightful) and badges, which you get from posts and reactions.

But all of that just comes from posting, so really all it comes down to is people with more stars spend more time on the forum.

Basically, it means that you've spent faaaar too much time in here for faaaaar too long, that you've created or participated in countless heated debates, and that you've been so bad at it that you've never managed to reach a proper position such as "Class representative" or "Community Ambassador' ;-)

What surprises me is that you run out of badges at a pretty low level of stars. I hadn't thought about mine in quite a while so I just now went and looked and insightfuls/agrees/awesomes seem to stall at badges for 500. My last badge was for 4th anniversary, and before that for 500 insightfuls; whereas I'm currently at 700. 2500 comments is a badge.

At launch there were only 5 stars possible and I didn't think I'd ever make it to that. They might have to add a 3rd row of stars for @Aliyavana someday

    Guiltiest! :D

But, yeah, the only thing they measure is your engagement on the forums. To a small extent it indicates popularity, or how persuasive you are, as things like insightfuls, agrees, and awesomes do count towards your overall score. But, generally it's just how much you post on here, and how many other users thought you made a good point.

I'd say, making thoughtful posts counts for more than simply spamming comments, but sometimes sarcastic cat .gifs win out over everything else, so it's all in the context.

it's same as CP in game i think
if you have high level you might be a really smart person who knows a lot of The Elder Scrolls® Online: The Tamriel Unlimited™, Summerset Chapter™ v4.0.11.1623296
but then you can be utterly garbage as well :)

It is an indication of status, those with two rows of stars are clearly superior to those with only one...

Or its just an indication that you have no life, definitely one of the two.
