I have travelled behind many players lately, that are doing exactly what you fear.... they are taking the nirncrux and leaving the mats...

So, they're not completely broken, but the drop rate is much lower than it was even and should be. I probably went through 500+ nodes before finding one which was luckily potent, the one I'm after. That's still abysmally low.

500 nodes is not even remotely close to a viable sample size for something with a 2% drop rate at best. When you said you were farming a lot, I assumed you meant thousands of nodes. Even then, the sample size is only borderline useful.

2% drop rate so 2 in 100 so I should have seen 10 and I saw 1.
FYI, my estimate is low because I know I was doing it a long time, but I didn't count them. I was trying to be conservative given how many I was seeing all over the place that I just hoovered-up.
These really should be higher drop rate though if they want us to choose traits based on what we like and what we want to use and experiment with rather than just going with the easiest or assuming it is the best based on rarity.
It's like they're designing the game to support bot farmers economy, like some twisted stock market, rather than actual paying playing customers and their economy also.

- Nirncrux can drop from any node, (yes even enemies possessing rubedo hide such as welwa’s.)
- As the others have explained, chances of finding Nirncrux are practically slim.

Not correct. This may have been true in the far past but for the past 9 months at least both nirncruxes can drop anywhere in Craglorn.

Not correct, Nirncrux does not drop from alchemy and enchanting nodes, only from nodes that drop 'gear' materials (cloth, metal, wood, and now also jewelry nodes). You are correct about the rubedo hide mobs though, welwas and even the 1 shot pigs can drop it.
Edited to add mention of jewelry nodes.

This. In addition contrary to popular belief, potent will drop from clothing nodes/mobs. I've got the pics/video to prove it somewhere. Also in my small sample size I've been satisfied with the nirn drop rate from the (mini)bosses that drop leather in the dungeons as well.

I've gotten several from the Daggerback pigs in Craglorn.
