Re-spec my High Elf DK, DPS?

Good morning. I’ve been playing ESO for about 2 weeks; I used to play EverQuest when it first came out, and then a little EQ2. I’m a woman in my fifties, and I’m not into knowing specific mechanics of the game. I get lost a LOT in games, and until I know what I’m doing and am comfortable, I die a lot too! I enjoy PVE more than PVP, but I think ESO offers some interesting options at the end game, so I’d like to have that option (PVP) with my guild, at some point.

So, not knowing what I was doing I rolled a High Elf DK. I just hit lvl 50 and have 15CP. Becuase I quest and solo a lot (just discovered the joys of the Darkbrotherhood—that craps fun!), my stats are (approx) 13 magical, 12 health and the rest I put into stamina—it’s something like that.

When I do dungeons, I die a lot—especially the lvl II dungeon, I think part of it is that the particle effects from all the spells make it hard for me to see the red spots on the ground, and I don’t move fast enough (the other part of it is not yet knowing the mechanics of the boss mobs). I LOVE “in your face” sword play, but I think for ESO it’s just not good for my game.

I also want to continue being able to solo, but want to join groups and, like I said, eventually have some livability in Battlegrouds and other PVP.

So! I’m thinking about using the respec scrolls to respec my character. I’ve also thought about changing the race to something better suited to DPS DK.

I’d love some suggestions from the community! Change race to Redgaurd or? But..I think I can only change the race to the same alliance, so that would mean the Khajiit? But I sure don’t like the way that race looks! So that is not a happy idea, but I’d do it if means my toon would be a good one. Or... Respec out of STA and into Magika? Currently, I have all the abilities in the dual wield line as I love that, but I think I need to focus more on the spell abilities and crowd control?

So...I’d love some suggestions on how to retune this char for survivability and DPS outupt for trail, vet dungeon, and PVP play, while maintaining a good survivability while roaming around by myself and questing. Keeping in mind this ‘ol gal has no interest in being the “best”....I just wanna have fun. :)

Thanks in advance for your thoughts!

Ok, your stats are scattered and that will effect your damage hugely. What I would suggest is going to some build sites. A lot of the builds are end game but the basics are there for a good solid build. One in particular I found very helpful is:
    https://www.xynodegaming.com/burn-dk
Listen to the vid and see what you can get from it. In would take a wall of text to sort what you have going on and I, like you am of that golden age and my typing is not up to scratch for sure.
Hopefully someone else might jump in here and break it all down for you, this place is good for that. But yea, also check out the site...cant hurt! And yea, have fun!!! ;)

Rerolling into either Redguard or Khajit will up your dps/sustain but its not the end of the world if you stay high elf.

Since you mentioned the above races I assume you're playing stamina and not magicka. In that case your attributes should be all into stamina (64).

As for you being squishy, don't worry about it. You will end up with something like 10-11k health unbuffed but you should always have a food up in group content. I personally spam "Garlic Cod With Potato Crust" which are like 20gold each or less. This way you'll end up with 16k+ health which is more than enough for non-vet/hm content. Of course you ain't a tank so you should dodge-roll out of deadly stuff.

I suggest reading some guides to get an idea about stats and skills. For example:

    https://alcasthq.com/eso-stamina-dragonknight-build-pve/
    https://dottzgaming.com/build/noxious-stamina-dragon-knight-pve-build/

These 2 are pretty much up to date for summerset. Its not like they're the holy grail but should give you a general direction to go into.
