@xpizza68x maybe you are just trying too hard to find faults. Once you stop comparing and expecting it to be like a game you have already played you will start enjoying it. Watching other people to find out everything about the game sucks the life out of it. Getting lost in the game and making your share of mistakes rather than avoiding them is much better than learning everything about the game beforehand.
I aspire to become a thin yet fat tank.

You need gold? Bend over and pick up any material nodes you see around. Invest skill points into Keen Eye passives, it helps a lot.
Need more gold? Join a trading guild, than port to a player who is in Coldharbour, and scout inside area around Hollow City for herbs which then you will sell.
There are plenty of areas with big amount of treasure chests and material nodes located nearby, but these locations you have to find yourself. I won't spoil the fun you will have in finding tchem, if you are patient enough.
Need good gears? Ask guild crafters to craft you gears. Be a friend to others, offer some of your time to them, then they can craft for you for free. This is an mmo, so be friendly to others, ask and be polite and people will help you.

Also do not expect everything will come easily, as it's no fun in such game. Some struggle at the beginning is a must, before you reach higher levels and become self-suffcient at everything. Be patient.

You're nowhere near a 5th through the game.

At lvls 1-50 you don't really have to worry about much as far as gearing, especially when you're new to the game. You can just use whatever you can find/craft and you'll be fine. For now just enjoy the quests.

Once you're at CP 160 (which is quite a long way off) then you'll want to start worrying about gear and min/maxing

I'm guessing the gear you were trying to buy was likely research gear or intricate, not actually basic gear. Don't look for lvl 1 stuff, as that the level that people craft trait research gear at.

Additionally, crafting isn't remotely hard(be sure to tick on "have knowledge" at the top, as it will simplify the menu for you). Just make sure you have the materials, pick the item you want to make, choose your style (you can learn new ones from motif books), select your material (Iron/jute/rawhide/maple for you), increase the amount of material until the lvl indicator reaches the desired level (10), select a trait if you have one (you probably wont yet), then hit craft. You can also improve gear, but you don't really need to worry about that yet.

Again: you're nowhere near a 5th through the game(not that there is really even an "end" to stop at), don't fuss about gear or your build. Just enjoy the game and get used to how it plays. The only thing I would caution you against is getting too used to any kind of hybrid build (a build that uses both magicka and stamina) as they are not viable, so its a bad habit to get into.

    1) Level 50 is only the beginning. You have 750 CP levels after that and they add 30 more a few times a year. It will take you months and possibly a year or two to level to max level playing casually 2-3 hours a day.

    2) You want to keep your gear updated as much as possible as you level, but dont go out of your way to upgrade it. My newbie is level 32 and still wearing a level 4 hat.

    3) Dont "gold port" places unless you can afford it and you cant right now. Run to way shrines. Also make sure you unlock every wayshrine you come across. Without the benefit of addons on the PC you will have to use either a map online to find them or just run across them in your travels. Join an active guild and every so often just port to people who are online in other zones. Its free and it will unlock that wayshrine for you. Its the easiest way to unlock a shrine in new zones. Most cities on the coast have navigator npcs at the docks. If you talk to them they will tell you where they will take you.

    4) Mundus stones are important, for later in the game when you are perfecting your character. You can live without them in the beginning though.

    5) Guides are normally for a specific build that is for a specific task. This is normally end game PVE or PVP. They are not that good for soloing. The PVE builds are meant to be played in a group with buffs and healers. Most builds are very squishy on their own and quite so even in a group because they min/max stats.

6)You can open treasure chests on newbie islands for a good source of newbie gear. They have training traits on them which gives you an xp bonus. Khenarthi's Roost is the best island for this, imo. It is south of the mainland on the map. Most of the chest on island are on the beaches so you can just run around the edge of the island hunting for them. This is another place where addons are helpful, which you can only use on PC. Harvestmap would mark the chests that you found so you know where to look next time your running for chests( same for other harvest resources.) IF your in the Dominion faction ( wood elf, high elf, khajiit, etc) you can get their fairly easy. it may even already have an unlocked wayshrine. You can get their from Auridon docks. To get to Auridon docks, you can catch a boat from several other cities to Auridon.

    7) Stealing is a great way to make money when you start out. Without any skill investment or skill line leveling you should be able to steal 2000-2500 gold worth of stuff in about an hour. You can only fence so many items per day. With leveling and being a little more picky you can turn this into 10-15k gold an hour once a day per character. Mistral Chancery in Khenarthi Roost is a great place for new thieves.

    8) Additionally you can sell blueprints, recipes and such that you launder and dont need in guild traders for a bit more income. Later on you will find more efficient ways to make gold, such as selling high value or high demand items.

At level 15 you get an extra weapon and the 5 skill slots + ultimate that goes with it. It is best to have a skill from each line on both skill bars. If you like a skill keep it on you primary bar.

When you hand in your quests, make sure that you are one the bar with the skills that you want to level up.

I don’t know how Vampire works purchased from crowns but if you are bitten in game it’s character bound.

@JumpmanLane, crown store bites just unlock the skill line on that character. It's also one shot. So it's almost exactly like getting a bite from another player or a wild infection spawn, without the quest.

I also read once you morph an ability/spell take it of your bar and replace it with another in the same skill tree to level up the new spell and the ability itself.
But what if you're happy with the morphed ability you have and you replace it with something crappy to level up?

    So, two things.

First, morphs also level from 1 to 4. Once they've maxed out, then you can take it off your bar if you're not using it.

Second, you'll sometimes want to level up additional abilities so you can swap things out when you need something else. For example, as a tank, you may want to have Inner Fire fully leveled up, even if you normally don't use it. Because, sometimes, you need to be able to taunt someone from range, but most of the time you wouldn't want to, and it can make fights go horribly wrong.

Also, worth knowing, when you get to level 15, you unlock a second weapon bar, and can swap back and forth mid combat. So, at that point, you'll have a bit more flexibility in your slotted skill options.

Oh that sucks because the quest ain’t bad. Plus, vamp ain’t for everyone. Definitely not for every build so that’s a total waste of money, should you then decide to cure it. Besides, folks will bite you free much of the time. I know I’ve bitten all kinda people for free lol.

Thank you mate, awesome info yet again.
I'll go to Rivenspire for a look, I don't know where it is but I'll find it, I already have the Fighters and Mage guilds so all good there.
Someone else mentioned Dolmens, I don't know what they are.
A small group instance or is it one of those open area world events where anyone can join?
One last question about vampirism if you buy it, if I decide I don't want it I know I can have it removed but is it gone from my account for that character as well permanently?
Because if I decide later on I want again do I have to repurchase it or its still there to be used?

They look like swirls on the map. If you are close you will see an actor come from out of the sky or hear special music.

I'd say they look more like a gear or ninja throwing star.

Anyhow, they're an open world frequently-repeating event. If you trigger it alone, the chances are outstanding that other people will soon come and join you. Toward the end of the event, they have some of the best voice acting in the game.

One of the easiest ones to find is in Deshaan. The wayshrine that everybody gets "for free" in Deshaan is at the northwest corner of the zone. Ride south until a road goes east. Take that road, and you'll soon pass the Forgotten Crypts public dungeon (which is a great place to get both a skill point and good loot). Shortly thereafter you'll pass an ordinary delve, and then you'll get to a dolmen.

Another easy one to find is near the city of Daggerfall in Glenumbra, but I forget which side of the city it falls on, so I'll leave that to somebody else to describe.

OP, dolmens (dark anchors) on the normal zones have the same symbol as the Abyssal Geysers in Summerset and the general idea is the same, but they are connected to the main story line, so they are different. They are a lot easier to tackle than the geysers, though and you will also get a reward chest at the end. They are very cool.

As for abilities, in the second zone of your alliance you will find a shrine that allows you to reset your skill points. You can reset all of them or just the morphs of abilities. There is a gold cost associated to it based on how many skill points you will recover.

If you decide you don't like being a vampire (or werewolf), you can talk to a priest in the last zone of your alliance to get cured. However, getting cured will not automatically return the skill points you used. You will need to reset your skills to get them back.

Welcome to ESO. I hope you enjoy the road just as much as the destination!

    Yeah.

Furnishings themselves are strictly cosmetic, to make your house look cooler. That said, there are specific pieces that have utility functions. Off hand, there are containers which will give you a total of 360 inventory slots to store stuff in (though, the starter apartments can't place all 8 containers at once), there's crafting stations, the outfit and transmutation stations (there's two versions of the outfit station, one is significantly cheaper than the other.) There's also training dummies, which you can use to practice your outgoing damage rotation. Finally, you can show off your undaunted trophies if that's what you're into.

So, mostly, housing is just a convenient way to get a free fast travel out of wherever you landed, and a cosmetic way to show off or have a cool space to hang out in. But, they also have some utility.

To display your achievements (via achievement furniture). Plus my second house Mournoth keep has a convenient wayshrine right outside your door. Daggerfall Manor has plenty of space to display all my monster heads and stuff. I let my pals use my crafting stations and we duel there and stuff. Houses are useful.

I gotta say this thread explains very well why so many people drop ESO..

Zos focus so hard on end game content while their starter zones die off, loot is non existent and money is a nightmare.. Takes months to learn crafting.. Loot drops can be insanely random i got to level 20 without ever seeing a restoration staff or an axe...

Trading is non existent as a new customer can't join guilds because they force unfair restrictions on people.. Can't buy anything from shops as its all junk..

The curve to start this game and enjoy ESO is too high and frustrating..

Starting the game at early access might have been a nightmare. Now, not so much. I play on pc/na.

Yes, it takes months to finish all the research for crafting. However the first few traits go quickly. You can make three sets of good gear with only two traits researched. The crafting stations are in the first zones after Bal Foyen, Stros M'Kai, and Kenarthi's Roost. [Stonefalls/Glenumbra/Auridon]

Players starting the game now have the advantage of having people around who have been playing since the start. There are many maxed skills crafters around. If you have a good guild you can ask crafters to make you gear with the traits and the weapons you want. I don't know how players on the consoles do things, but for my guilds I'll craft gear for guildies for free. If I don't have the mats for it, and they get the mats, I'll craft it for free. I improve the low level gear to at least green if not blue because I have the mats and tempers. The crafted gear is good for at least 10 levels. If they want another set at that point, they can ask again. Guilds can be helpful. Along with making "custom" gear, I'll do glyphs for enchanting, food, and alchemy items for guildies too.

Contrary to many people's ideas, there are guilds that get traders that don't charge outrageous fees or set incredible "you have to sell X amount" restrictions. I have 4 guilds currently; two consistently get traders, neither one has any requirements beyond "you must log into the game once a week". Again, not sure about the prices on console, but picking flowers and picking up raw mats can get quite a bit of gold. Now with the jewelry seams that is even more true. If you are dead set against trying to find a guild with a trader that doesn't charge, selling in zone can work. The dropped gear that you might not want to use; if it isn't some rare item decon it, and if you get tempers, sell the tempers. Gold is actually not that hard to get now.

Public dungeons, can you solo them or are they a group thing only?
Or are they like a Delve where anyone can join in at anytime?
I read somewhere you have to complete the quests inside each one to complete the dungeon, is that right?
Killing the end boss isn't enough?

Lastly Mundus Stones for a Magicka Sorc, it's down to 3.
Keeping in mind I'm still leveling, either Lover, Mage or Apprentice?

You can solo them depends on you’re class and build I really struggle with my Stam Templar who is cp377 but my magic Sorc with pets who is level 27 has cleared them no probs. The good thing is lots of people there so you can get help if you need it . Just the group events are needed for saviour of Summerset but they are solo able in Summerset but really struggled with the Morrowind ones but not tried /taken my sorcerer there yet. I’m using the magic Mundus stone works well . Also yes like delves .

First of all, join a guild, if you are not a lone wolf. Better not a trading one for starters. They will provide you with stuff and answers you need.

Ask a few times in zone chat (preferably in some nexus zone like Craglorn, Reaper's March, Deshaan or Vvardenfell) to craft you low level gear. Just research a bit what you need before you ask. You will find some people who will do this for you without any fee (some may ask to provide mats though, but you can collect them yourself)

And VERY IMPORTANT thing: always have a food buff up. It really matters. The food buffs in TESO are quite powerful

My suggestion - join 2 trading guilds. They are usually recruiting in chat, or just ask someone or look online.
There are trading guilds where you don't really have to get involved if you've had bad guild experiences, but they will give you two important things:
    • You can travel around all over for free, by jumping to a guildmate. with a large guild or two, you can go practically anywhere
    • You can go to the bank and buy and sell stuff through the guild. That will really help your gold & gear situation.

No. You can jump straight to your house. Leaving it to go somewhere else you need to hit a wayshrine. Mournoth Keep has a wayshrine right outside it’s gate. Super convenient. From Daggerfall Manor I have to jump to Mournoth lol.

Think of a public dungeon as a long delve. When you are able to solo a delve you’ll be able to solo public dungeons. Then try soloing something like Fungal Grotto 1 on normal. Keep pushing yourself. VMA is just around the corner.

    First mistake.
Summerset is terribad as starter location for newbies, just like Vvardenfell.

Wehn you have experience, you can start there, but if you are new to the game I -really- would suggest you take the nearest wayshrine to your alliances starter city (Vukhel Guard, Daggerfall or Davons Watch) and talk with the hooded figure about meeting a mysterious benefactor, and follow that questline to the original starter islands. Not only are they easier, they also have more gear drops...
    xpizza68x wrote: »
At level 10 I'm still wearing my level 1 boots as nothing has dropped and the game is already a fifth over...
...and you -are- supposed to craft your started gear, or grab some of the stuff lying around the scenery in a pinch.
The good news is, since OneTamriel you don't need to upgrade your gear quite as often.
    The bad news is... summerset.
Right now it will be overrun with players, so finding resources to craft with will be a drag...
...but if you follow above advice, you can farm starter resouces nicely in all the starter locations. Its not hard to craft low level tier one gear, and that will get you through the starter quests while you get the more decent quest reward stuff... again, summerset is not the best place for this.

Also, a very good source of gear are the treasure chests that are hiding in off-the road corners on every map. And since they respawn, and since lockpicks are easily grabbed from containers in homes and many "ruin" type dwelves... go treasure hunting!

Buying is only a good idea if you need a specific trait to research, or if you have reached the endgame. And that is not "level 50" by the way... so, I laugh at that "fifth of the game" thing! Once you hit 50, the -real- game starts, where you grab champion points! At 160 you grab your "dream" set(s) and gear up, then hunt ever more c-points until you hit cap...

Back when Summerset was only on the Public Test Server, I told ZOS that it wasn't set up well as a starter zone. The availability of materials for self-crafting, and drops for those who don't, were both too low. The response was to suggest travelling to another zone. So that's what you need to do. Make your way to Alinor, or rather the nearby docks, and take a boat to one of your Aliiance's low-level zones, where you'll find more materials, and get better low-level drops.

At level 10, you have the opportunity to get certified in crafting, which gives you daily writs for gold income, as well as levelling your crafting skills faster. That will help you make the things that aren't dropping. Research traits whenever you can, and take the crafting passives to accelerate research. It takes about a year of play to learn them all, even if you play 24 hours a day, because most of it is waiting.

Levels affectively go to about 800, as you change scales at 50 to another one of champion points, where level 50 becomes CP10 and you cap at (currently) 750, and by the time you get there it will be 30 or more higher. At CP160, base equipment stops advancing, and you're concerned with sets and traits and enchantments, most of which will come from your account's crafting capabilities.
