Buying Discontinued Crown Items

Has anyone had success in getting them to sell you discontinued items? I've been begging everyone with no reply's. I want the Blacksmith's Costume soooo bad.

They used to let you do this back before Crown Crates were a thing. They discontinued the practice when someone made a Reddit post that got a lot of attention saying that ZOS had a policy of selling old Crown Store items if you contacted customer support directly. Apparently they didn't want everyone taking advantage of it.

Now that old Crown Store items come back in Crown Crates, the only way to get them is to but the Crates.

...I'm pretty sure the Blacksmith's costume isn't something you can buy/sell...unless it came in a runebox format. And I'm pretty sure it never came in that form.

They still do this to my knowledge. You need to keep at it. Recently purchased the Grim Harlequin motif via customer support about a month or two ago. They'll give the regular canned response that you can't purchase old crown store items and have to wait for them to come back to the store, but I just kept bugging them about it (mainly cause they mentioned something about it maybe returning to a crown crate and I kind of flipped out about that).

I got a Blacksmithing costume from an Event reward container. It was the Dungeon Event

Seriously, that would have gotten some attention outside of the reddit world.

They did allow the purchases of not-current store items when the concierge stuff started. However after it came to light this was happening, the official word came down that allowing purchase of not-current store items was a mistake, and it wouldn't be happening again.

That was it. I did like 3 dungeons and it was the first or second box

I'd love to get an old Crown Gem item. Apparently there was a lipstick that was sold that actually showed up properly on vampires. Wish I could get that for my albino blood suckers.

These are the containers that contain extra goodies in otherwise normal reward boxes. If you remember any of the events you would get a Runebox for something like the Mudball or Juggling Knives.

I've been playing the game on/off for 4 years, so it seems like any of the festivals I miss, except for the Jester's festival. The only things I got from that were banners (ugh - so, so many banners) and fireworks.

Oddly enough, I forgot all about my fireworks and launched them in Auridon a few weeks ago. Too bad we can't craft these.

But no runebox. I see people offer them for sale, but they're gold, so I automatically assume the price to be "2 kidneys, a heart, the left leg, and 1.2 quintillion gold", which is too rich for me.

I don't have a heart.

You can buy those gold boxes cheap at the end of the events. In fact I sold off one of the last ones I had for 99 gold not too long ago. First day of an event, they sell for stupid money

Thanks for the info. Next time I see a runebox that looks interesting, I'll ask the buyer what it is and how much.

The other place runeboxes are coming these days is the collectable pets/mementos/hats/etc from the chapter & DLC public dungeons. Collect all 7 parts of the cat pet, it forms a runebox. That kind of thing.

Those are more rare than the event runeboxes.

(but basically, "Runebox" is "tradeable consumable that will unlock a pet/costume/hat/memento/whatever when you use it")

Someone on the ESO Fashion website commented that she was able to purchase a discontinued Crown Store costume a few months ago by asking nicely... not sure if it's true but seems to support what someone else posted above.

It did... It's when it came here that they stopped doing it. But it seems they still will on occasion for a select few.

I hate inconsistent customer service.

Issue is, those containers couldn't be traded, and if you got something you already had, you'd get nothing. I got the Treasure Hunter on my first day, except I had Treasure Hunter from back when it was in the store. Didn't see another drop until the last day when I got the dog and Dark Shaman outfits. Honestly, kinda demoralizing overall, when most of the time I was getting treasure maps.

Yes, those particular ones were not tradeable, but crown store stuff never was. But, I don't think Crown Store items should be directly tradeable. We are already close to that being able to gift items now. At least now its a process that reduces Gold Selling.

And, I also wanted that Chef outfit, but that particular week, I ran 3 dungeons because that is all I had time for.
