Keelsplitter kills me over and over and over again. Can anyone help me understand why??

I know the answer is "l2p" and yes, that's what I'm trying to do!! I guess I'm fairly weak (14k health and light armor) but there's not other WB that kills me so much and so easily. I am still trying to learn the combat mechanics of the game as I am mainly a crafter/explorer. He does something where he CCs me and then as soon as I break out I die immediately... EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. I don't even have time to try to roll away or buff myself. I just die. I even have a lot of CP in making roll doge and break free cheaper but it doesn't seem to mean anything. What is happening here? What does he do and how can I avoid it? Thanks.

I'm talking about the flying eel World Boss in Summerset.

How do you have only 14k health? Are you using proper food? Some other questions what kind of gear and skills are you using.

Yea, you need more health. Assuming you are magika with light armor you want at least blue Max health and Max Magicka food for your level. You could due purple witch mothers brew that tosses in some magicka regen but it lowers the max of the rest so you would need some health elsewhere.

I would suggest 17ish minimum health. You can add more.

Also, shield and use heals, not knowing your class.

He is best to do range and keep moving in a sideways motion (kinda back and forth). You are less likely to get caught in one of his big circles. Pay attention to the pattern and you will understand how to move better.

Edit: If I got anything wrong just blame it on Tasear. Do not say I told you to.

I stumbled upon him the other night while out exploring. Being a thief/assassin, I sent out word that he was up and was hoping a group would come to mow him down while I jumped into the fray as a bonus member. Sadly, no one seemed interested in the fight that evening.

It's hardly a fight I'd want to take on with no support around me.

Stay at range to avoid the aoe from his body.
Keep moving to avoid the damage and knock down from his water spouts, its easier to get out them if you are already in motion.
Try to not step on snakes.

Yeah, I'm gonna second OP here and say this mechanic with the geysers has to go. When you can get chain shot for 21k+ health with the frequency and the lack of avoidance this attack has, it goes beyond L2P to say that legit the mechanic needs fixed. Please, consider either spacing out the chain of geysers by another 2 seconds or so such that people can potentially recover from the first and move, or lessen the damage such that your average character doesn't get 2 shot when chained. Remember, this is a pug event. People don't heal each other.

The avoiding stepping on snakes is a huge part of this fight too, I'm not 100% on what the exact effect they have on you but I know the time I got the achievement specifically for NOT stepping on any snakes was the easiest time in that fight. I think they slow you, and or make you take more damage from the other attacks too. But not sure exactly, i just know if you dont step on them it is easier.

I just did that fight last night for the first time and did happen to step on a few snakes during the process. Being a thief/assassin - continued movement was the name of the game and those snakes are difficult to miss. The only thing I noticed was that they make you stumble and fall, causing you to lose time getting back up and a little health. Of course, it would sometimes be compounded by Keelsplitters geyser attacks which can be devastating and would often appear in the same place my character happened to fall.

Irritating fight as a melee but very soloable on my mag sorc since I can sit at range and not have to worry about his aoe stun.

Snake(stun) + geyser sounds like what is killing you OP.

Others have said stay at range but not too ranged lots of dots ... He has an aoe he does by him try be just outside that ... When your caught in s circle roll dodge out soon as if you can't move quick enough block, you will still take some damage but no stun so no follow up damage

Avoid the snakes ... Smaller aoe circles, if you struggle to see them change colour in the settings ...

Don't try ultimates that do aoe damage they just get wasted as he tends to move as soon as dropped so insta hits or shield from PvP support line will be a good one to use

This fight sucks as a stam char. Tried to do from distance with bow but can't seem to block or avoid his aoe without lisung health & stam. Fecking frustrating.

(Of course it's fine for a mag char as they don't have to worry about losing their ability to do damage if they block or dodge roll)

if you can play your class and know the fights it's absolutely irrelevant how much overall hp you have as DD. all my magicka classes have between 14ish k and 16ish k health including Witchmother's and the only times i die is when i screw up a mechanic where a few k more health wouldn't have helped anyways.

It sounds like you have combat que's turned off. It makes red lines and circles that tell you where not to stand.

Thanks for all of your input. I am an Altmer magblade. I have all of my attribute points in magic and my set doesn't offer a health buff. I am just starting to work on my build. I do have combat ques on and in most cases I almost never get stuck in a red (hot pink for me) circle. For whatever reason I just can't avoid them on this dude. It feels like I don't even get a chance to see them. As soon as I hit him with a light attack I somehow end up stunned inside a big bad circle within seconds and then immediately after breaking free I am dead.

I've tried a few times now even since reading the replies and I am a little better. Just have to make sure as soon as I do any damage to him at all that I start running around like a maniac to avoid a circle. It's actually kind of embarrassing to me when I have to do this boss lol. I am filled with dread when I get this daily.

Oh and I do use Witchmother's. I also finally made myself a proper gear set, maybe it's time to take him on again...

I have done it as a melee without dying.

Or course every decent melee build has a bow on the back bar so any stam should be able to go ranged if they are challenged.

But overall the mechanics of most of the WBs in this zone are not melee friendly with all the mechanics involved. It just takes being very aware of that fight and avoiding/mitigating the damage well.
