I've been altoholic most of my life. This is the first time i'll admit it.

I'm in a neverending loop. When i'm on my weakest moment, i have to create an alt, even though i have already an alt for every purpose.
After leveling and probably failed build, i hit rock bottom. I delete my alt, tell myself "this time it is final." Except i will be creating new one soon.

Oh Stendarr, give me strength to overcome my altoholism.

So, my fellow altoholics. How many alts do you have and do you have different purposes to them?

I currently have crafter, stamina / magicka DD, tank, healer and one undefined build. Either PvP toon, or going to try and build a healtank.

NB enthusiastic:
  1. Woodhippie stamblade - DW hard-hitter / PvE
  2. Know-it-all elf Magblade - Healer / PvE & PvP
  3. Hate-them-all elf Magblade - Destrostaff AoE monster / PvE
  4. Cyrodiil-Refugee stamblade - Stamina Tank / PvE

I currently have 24 of them. o:) Spread across two accounts and two servers...there have been more, some didn't work out so they were deleted, but this is the current count. Some are max level, some are still levelling.

Why do I make so many characters? To try out certain builds, or certain character concepts floating about in my head, or both. I'm not simply talking about "tank" or "healer"; I am talking about things such as "could I make an ice mage using the Ice staff and the Warden Skill line?" or "Is Stamsorc potentially viable for my Redguard Swordmaster?"

I don't really think of them as alts or toons...

i have characters which were created earlier than others, but, i try to do different quest lines with different characters...and, spend time with each pvping...

started 10 so far, i'm kinda hoping zos is done adding new races and classes for a while...have each race, stam/mag version of each class...different weapons, abilities, gear on each...

also, try to make sure they can all do well in cyrodiil, and, be able to participate in the maj al-ragath and glirion the redbeard's pledges...

not sure if that's an alcoholic though...I'd guess 10 may just be a step below excessive...

now - anyone who has more than say - 20 characters (multiple accounts) and, or, monthly deletes created characters in order to make more...well...

I have 1 or 2 "mains" at any given time, chosen from the pool of about 8 stable (stam and mage for most classes), and a couple of spots for more exotic builds.

    So yes, I'm an altoholic.

I have 25 characters, all equal individuals rather than "a main plus alts". They have different builds (not based on others' recommendations, just my own tastes), and they are all for playing through the game but focusing on different aspects.

Of course, you're not strictly an altoholic if you only have the one account  !

    Hello all,

I too am a recovering altoholic. For a long time I lived in denial and my addiction caused me to fill up all slots at some point but I've been clean for almost 6 months now and well on my way to earn my first sobriety badge. Thanks to all those that have been supporting me in order to make it this far.

Two accounts; one the full 15, the other one only 6 so far. Different builds, different gear....its the gee, I wonder how this would work thing. All of them have crafting; two are totally maxed, the others I set the skill to the mats I want to find.

Do you guys find it more convenient to build different race / class - combos and new characters, rather than just switch gear / attributes / skills on 1-2 characters?

I mean, my reason for my altoholism is exactly the above. I find it more convenient to test different builds / purpose with different characters, rather than respeccing them etc

I have 14 on NA, and have mostly abandoned my several EU characters.

I found, not exactly sure when, that ZOS has crossed a threshold of content development that I just have too much to do to actively play all 14 characters.

Of those 14, I would only ever take 2 of them into dungeons or trials. I'm not "trial'ing" up all 14 characters. Though all 14 are max level, and most have finished Cadwell's Gold to. Some are even experimental, such as my Warden frost mage. Yeah, she's only ever going to see overland quests.

But each one is a unique build between sets and class. They entertain me.

I'll create another character if they ever release a new class.

    Hello, I’m DK.

I don’t play a DK. Those are literally my initials. I main a Magplar. I have whatever the exact opposite of altiholism, whatever it’s called.

I have my Magplar that has 99% of anything I’d ever want unlocked. Then I have 1 more level 50 that I grinded in Wrothgar over a period of 2 weeks in 2016 due to the stampocalypse. I never use him. I also have a level 19 that hasn’t been touched in almost 2 years either. Then, of course, I have 5 level 3 mules with names like Cary Randomstuff.

I’d really like to use other characters but my FOMO kicks in and I end up on my shield stacking, invisibility potion chugging, Magplar named Iamdk Iamnotadk ... who everyone still thinks is a DK.

Hello [insert name] - I'm an altoholic too.

15 characters on main account all maxed out horse, class, all armors, the important guilds, all in gold gear and everyone ready for vet content.

Started on my second account as well but I have only one maxed character. Not sure when I'll lvl more but might do it later this summer when vacation kicks in.

Took me a few years playing before I started making fun experimental builds. Way to stuck with the meta until Summerset - with the changes to 2H that opened up the builds and I've never had so much fun in terms of testing new set combinations.

Currently farming Cloudrest for the new sets - only one copy of each this time. Traits not important.

I have alts I dabble with, but I've never felt the need to delete them. Since I mainly PvP I took it upon myself to make 12 toons just for pvping so I can experiment with the different classes and stamina/magic respectively. It's become a lot harder to scream 'nerf this and buff that' when you've got access to those classes and builds. Since I kinda already know the ins and outs of my characters.

It's been a long journey to get all of those alts, but it's well worth it. Makes understanding how my enemies abilities work in pvp much easier to counter. Since at some point, I've already played a build similar to theirs!

Haha, thanks, although they are not what I'd call very original and especially optimal. The "special" ones anyway, I have optimised characters too, or as optimised as I'm able to make them. But to give you a few examples of my "RP builds":

Elijas the Elder - Nord, MagSorc (so far, pretty conventional despite the suboptimal race), he is what you would think of as a mad scientist in a modern setting, obsessed with the Dwemer and their technology. He uses the Mad Tinkerer set which is one of the most fun sets I've ever used in the game. It might not be BiS but I love it.

Josephine Vortigern - Breton, Warden, vampire. She only uses the Ice magic skill line from her class abilities and an Ice staff, because vampires have traditionally used ice magic in TES, so it's thematically appropriate.

Divia Tharn - Imperial, StamSorc, vampire. She's a low-ranking member of the extended Tharn family with delusions of grandeur. She dual-wields and uses Vampire's Kiss, a set I consider underappreciated. I like it a lot, and it is very thematically appropriate.

Nisahra - Khajiit, Templar. Uses a Restoration Staff, but I don't really play her as a healer. She's supposed to be a Priestess of the Two Moons, hence the "holy" theme.

The rest follow more or less conventional builds, and although they all have their own backstories and such I won't spam everyone with them all.

I have all 15 slots filled. I fully trained and gear up the first 6, I will probably promote a new one by the end of the year. I intend of promoting 3 more over the next 2 years or so. They are already leveled, with all skills trained (besides those who require reputation to level) but they just lack the skill points; they have just enough to spec skills to fill both bars and the crafting skills. While they are inactive they serve as storage and do the daily writs. I won't delete any of them because it will be illogical, as I've spent 225K gold and 6 months for each buying backpack upgrades and horse training. The writs alone bring in around 35K/week per character. So I view them as assets even if I don't intend promoting them soon.

    ... 42 alts...... It's fine. :D

Many of them have purposes build-wise where I wanted at least one magicka and stamina version of every class, some are crafters, and several of them were just characters I wanted to make or remakes of my characters from other Elder Scrolls games.

They have been accumulating since April 2015 and are spread across both my PC and Xbox servers as well as a handful on my husband's accounts. PC is my main account so the ones there get the most attention, but both are played quite a bit. Early on I deleted a good number, but now it is very rare that I delete a character and all but maybe 3 of the current ones are definitely here to stay o:)

That’s exactly why I don’t. My main has 743 or so. I’ll be back at max within the week after taking a full year off. If I had, for example, 600 CP but 8 level 50 toons I’d feel like I had 8 different ways to not contribute as much as possible.

That's fair enough. I don't really care all that much about CP and if I'm perfectly honest, I enjoy the levelling process more than the CP grind...probably one of the reasons I keep making alts.

    i have 11.... i can quit anytime i want.

main crafter is a magplar. all crafts maxed, knows all but 1 provisioning recipe and has all but 2 available motifs complete.

i have 3 other magplars with slightly different builds and gear, they craft as well.

i have 4 stamplars all with slightly different builds and gear. oh, they all craft too.

i have a hybrid nightblade that i'm experimenting with. lvl 30 something also a crafter.

last, but not least, 2 mules from the start of the game. not sure what class they are, 1 could be a dk.... they craft too.

    it's all about surveys.

I love making new alts. The "14" on my main account does not begin to describe how many alts I have actually made and then deleted.
    For now
I have 14 on my main account, PC EU, with 10 on PC NA (I travel and so need a choice)
Just started a second account (with ESO+) on PC EU; 2 alts so far (but back story and outline setup for a further 4 ready to go).

(My son has a "dormant" account that gets played from time to time....)

I have 700 cp on my main server and between 200-400 on the lesser used servers. I typically level at least one character per server up to 300ish cp and then start playing with more alts when I feel like having a break from those "main" characters. That being said, probably half of my alts are still below level 5 and at least one of them is still in the original Wailing Prison start cell lol
