Hey guys, I finally dusted my Magplar from the shelves but I'm really stuck on how to update him. Just to give you an idea I'm still using Rattlecage and Julianos …… I left after the spear nerf

What kind of builds would you recommend now and why? Thank you in advance

Pretty much standart setup is Shackle and Wizards and Pirate Skeleton. Good sets are also Overwhelming Surge, Amber Plasm, Lich, Spellpower Cure, Rattlecage
    PC,EU, EP
Der-über-Zwerge-springt (Argonian, Magplar), Surtur Velothi (Dunmer, Magdk), Jaqene H'ghar (Imperial, Stamblade), Puppyslayer (Orc, Stamdk), Dagoth Era (Dunmer, Magblade), Æthmon Trevas (Altmer, Magsorc), Der-Zuletzt-Lacht (Argonian, Magden), Sir-Lanzeflott (Redguard, Stamplar)

What is your goal for the magplar’s playstyle? It’s one of the most versatile classes in the game.

I always wonder what axiom would be like on magplar... It's pretty strong on mdk.
    Zaghigoth- Orc Stamplar
    Soul Razor- Altmer Magsorc
    Les Drago- Redguard Stamdk
    Eirius- Altmer Magdk
    Stormifeth- Altmer Magplar

axiom could work on a dark flare templar too. but since templars are missing useful ultimates I doubt it would be as good as on a dk

I like 5 piece Transmutation, 5 piece Seducer, 2 Monster (Skoria for me).

S&B/Charged Frost Staff is my preference.

You can go Master/Willpower/Maelstrom for the staff.

Or...you can go Transmutation staff and then on your S&B bar go Asylum set with Defensive Posture for nice magicka procs.

MagPlar damage skills just aren't good enough at the moment. Have to rely heavily on destro staff and/or proc sets and non class ultimate to apply any pressure at all, so hardly ideal for Axiom.

Trans/ reposte. Lighting or fire vdsa destro, skoria, all spell dmg on jewelry and spell dmg or magicka mundus. Love it. Great group mitigation support and a toolkit to kill, heal, turtle, aoe, all with switching a few skills up.

No meta. Most popular thing is once offensive (proc) set paired with one defensive set. Still need to crutch on sword and board (block) to survive so you're going to need stamina.
Make Rush of Agony "Monsters only." People should not be consecutively crowd controlled in a PvP setting. Period.

what are the 3 best option for each set - Offensive and Defensive?

I'm fine with a master ice staff on my back bar blocking with magicka the few hits I have to while hitting jabs a lot better with the root from frost reach. My stam is just there for CCs and a roll once in a while

what are the 3 best option for each set - Offensive and Defensive?

    Offensive:
    Overwhelming surge
    Innate Axiom (or war maiden)
Sloads Semblance (overperforming, will be nerfed soon)

    Defensive:
    Wizards Riposte
    Impregnable
    Transmutation

    Sustain:
    Amber Plasm
    Seducer

Shacklebreaker is kinda like a halfway set between offense/defense

Whether you want to run Valkyn Skoria or Pirate Skeleton for your monster set is your call.

I play mine like I used to my mag dk, I really enjoy bloodspawn as an option too when in light. Run lover mundus for physical pen for dawny and spell pen for obvious reasons.

    Yeah.

I'm running 5 Axiom, 5 War Maiden and 2 Skoria - With a 2h on the back bar for forward momentum instead of SNB.

Absolutely no issue bursting people down, or sustaining in 5 heavy 2 light.

It's just about playstyle and preference on Temp - I like to play very aggressive and circle opponents. If I'm taking no damage and casting no cleanses/heals, I got no issues.

Riposte is a set for scruffy duelling imo - it's just a "You can never kill me 1v1" set with a 100% uptime on an aggressive player - But even in Cyro it depends on how you play; grouped up? Forget Riposte etc and go high damage - Solo? Maybe take Troll King.

It's kinda up to you like everyone else has said.

There is a far better set than wizards riposte regarding duels....: shadowrend. Applies minor maim and does more damage than skoria.

There's a bunch of better sets for duelling - Riposte is scruffy, it was just that it had been mentioned as a serious build by a few.

Shadowrend vs Skoria to me is a pressure vs burst situation - The only reason I don't use Shadowrend is that maim can be cleansed and the clannfear can be rooted etc.

I wouldn't say its less reliable but it seems to be better for solo play or maybe solo instances like Maelstrom arena.

I've been using HTD lately in smaller groups and it works just fine. I don't even slot it in our larger (12-16) organized groups instead relying on healing springs, healing ward, energy orb, and remembrance. I slot Hasty Retreat now as well but use it sparingly (i.e. when many people near me need heals with no ult, or to proc spc and minor expedition as we enter breaches).

Templar has no meta now. Basically Templar in pretty crap compared to any other class. Stamina or Magic. House is not working at all and plenty of bugged or underperforming skills.

My house is built with 3 Defensive Sets to make myself very difficult to kill (stacking HoT's [one of which applies a ground based AoE snare], Damage Shields, Major Evasion, and High Resists all rolled up into one)...

And once an opponent is in my house, I will attempt to win the "Resource Battle" against him until I think he's vulnerable to be burst down by a combo of:

    1) Purifying Light...
    2) Invigorating Drain/Cancel...
    3) Soul Assault...
