So, anyone think it's time to consolidate mats?

I've been playing since beta, so I've gone through when leveling was a grind and took time to the current version of it not being all that grindy. I went through the period when leveling a crafting skill line took time and effort until the current time where I max out every crafting skill line just deconstructing stuff in inventory (with the addition of blue enchanting drops in summerset, that includes enchanting).

I routinely see mats drop and go into my eso plus bag that I can't even recall what they are for or even remember where they are used.

Point being... do we really need 9 different clothier mats, 9 different blacksmithing mats etc etc etc anymore?

I was going to calculate how many generic mats there currently are in game and to tell the truth it's far too much work to even attempt it when you consider base crafting mats, upgrade mats, trait components and so on and so on.

I'm no "master crafter", but I do have every crafting skill line maxed out on multiple characters (not that that's a achievement or anything) and I recognize maybe half the mats I see disappear into the massive void that is my eso plus crafting bag. I go into the bag sometimes and I recognize very little of it.

They made leveling much faster and easier (imo) and all the commiserate leveling crafting mats are pointless.

Do we even need how many trait or racial mats currently in game? Can't they just be replaced with a generic trait/racial/whatever token?

I dare someone to actually compute how many mats there are in game... It's become a totally ridiculous amount and most of it is redundant and of limited use.

    Yes!

Blacksmithing, Clothier, Woodworking and Alchemy solvents should be streamlined into 5 tiers like Jewelcrafting is.

The thing is, the crafting bag wouldn't be so appealing when you reduce the amount of materials you need and want to keep. For example, just looting crates and barrels for provisioning materials for an hour or so will fill up atleast half of your bagspace in no time.

Try playing without the craft bag, like I do. Then you will truly see how bad it is. I just destroy all hosing stuff and and most style mats now.

The fact that there are different materials for like cp 10-40 and cp40-70 and 90-140 is a little ridiculous. Due to the 4.8 mil of enlightenment you get for getting to level 50 you outgrow those levels so fast that it makes little sense to have different gear and mat levels for them. At this point it's just a skill point sink. Makes us hunt an extra zones worth of skyshards.

There also used to be Level-based Soul Gems they ended up consolidating...

I don't think they will do this with materials because Craft Bag is the most common way they trick people to subscribing if they want the full gaming experience. There are Millions of useless items in the game all for the purpose of taking up bag space...

Considering they just went out of their way to increase mats more (via everything in JC being collected in 1/10ths), I don't think they're interested in consolidation.

(my assumption is they made JC 'bulkier' to make up for giving us all that extra storage with housing coffers.)

I'm not trying to steer an argument for more skill points back or eso plus bag becoming less valuable.

I just started looking at how much totally unknown to me and mostly irrelevant random materials I pick up on a daily basis.

    Just think about it...

All the different tiers of the basic crafting skills, all their trait mats, all the racial mats, all the upgrade mats... Alchemy having different mats for poison and potions, all the jewelcrafting mats. All the provisioning mats... all the enchanting runestones and all their tiered level mats. etc.. The good bit of being mostly worthless or limitedly worth something, This good bit of these mats could easily be eliminated without anyone caring about their fate.

Haha yeah, pointless stuff like the tiered soul crystals exists for every crafting profession over a huge range of levels.

I don't think they do it in a "Millions of useless items in the game all for the purpose of taking up bag space..." way, I just think they sort of lost sight of the trees for the sake of the forest. It's great the forest is made up of so many varied trees (100's and 100's of them), but it's still a forest and no one would be the wiser with half the variety of trees.

This does not seem like that big of a deal. Of course we no longer need the matterials from v1 to v14 anymore but it is not like it is a big issue.

I'd rather think it would have the opposite effect. If 9 out of 10 materials you farm are useless and you only get what you're looking for every 10 nodes it would be quite discouraging.

Hardly matters. We have like 60 race stones and a billion ingrediants. You still would not be able to play the game without eso+ There are more mat types than even slots in a guild bank.

We are just long over the place where crafting is in any way manageable without craft bag and with craft bag it dosen't matter a lick how many mats there are.
I am currently worried for the future of ESO. Population seems like it is in free fall and the cancellation of the North America in-person gathering feels very much like pulling the plug. Kudos on fixing the in-game economy though. Clearly whatever gold shenanigans were happening the last couple years are fixed.

Well I think something can be done with them. I have tons of these mats I will never use and are hard to sell. It would be good perhaps to be able to combine them to make other mats I do use. Maybe create a new crafting skill - "Materials Handler" where you have the skills to combine 2, 3 or 4 mats (any kind) together to selectively create useful materials that you need.

    This is a cool idea.

I would imagine that outfits have made a lot of motif mats pointless for many and hard to sell.

I do find it disappointing that their method of making ESO+ more valuable is by making inventory management consistently worse. They were even so bold as to decrease the rate of DLC provided through ESO+ because they were confident they could frustrate people into subbing and not longer needed to use content to convince people.
