New Guy Questions

Hey guys,
I'm new to the game, I haven't played since Oblivion , so still finding my way around it in Summerset.
But it's starting to get frustrating so I have a few questions to ask that will help out.
Firstly I have watched YouTube videos on classes, specs, crafting , stone locations and just about everything else but it's not clicking.
Firstly we'll start with armour, from what I've seen and read it either drops or you craft it.
At level 10 I'm still wearing my level 1 boots as nothing has dropped and the game is already a fifth over.
So don't hold your breath on drops.
So I thought I'd craft them, wow that just seems like a really hard process so I thought I'd buy from a guild trader as there's no auction house as such.
I'm an ex WoW player after 12 years so some habits haven't died yet.
Anyway those traders sell level one armour with no stats at around 3 to 4k gold each.
After 10 levels I have around 300 gold left after porting around and repairs.
So how to God do you buy anything?
Am I supposed to be this basic a fifth through the game?
Next up is Mundus Stones, sure there's maps everywhere of locations but how do you get to those locations?
Sure I can catch a boat but being new how do you know what port to take to which harbour and then is it a direct route or do you go from one harbour to another?
That doesn't seem to get mentioned anywhere.
It seems to be an expectation you already know where the harbours are in which expansion/world.
I need Lover and Warrior for my several toons at the moment but from Summerset I'm lost.
If you buy Vampire from the Crown Store is it account bound for all characters to use or just the one it's used on?
There's more but this is turning into War and Peace on my phone so I'll leave it there.
Any comments/help would be greatly appreciated.

    > At level 10 I'm still wearing my level 1 boots as nothing has dropped
Sometimes armor drops from any mob, but mostly
    • Delve bosses have a chance to drop a waist or feet set piece from the zone they are located in.
    • Each boss also has a small chance to drop a unique set piece.
    • Overland group bosses have a 100% chance to drop head, chest, legs, or weapon set piece from the zone they are located in.
    • Public dungeon bosses have a chance to drop a shoulder, hand, or weapon set piece from the zone they are located in.
    • Treasure Chests gained from defeating a Dark Anchor have a 100% chance to drop a ring or amulet set piece form the zone they are located in.
    • Treasure chests found in the world have a chance to grant any set piece that can drop in that zone
Also quest rewards are often armor/weapon

    > So I thought I'd craft them, wow that just seems like a really hard process
It's not hard. What is the problem?

    > that just seems like a really hard process so I thought I'd buy from a guild trader as there's no auction house as such.
If you are playing on PC, use tamrieltradecentre.com

    > Anyway those traders sell level one armour with no stats at around 3 to 4k gold each.
If there are traits, that's mostly for research, not wearing.

    > After 10 levels I have around 300 gold left after porting around and repairs.
Port from wayshrines, it's free. Do quests. Sell what you don't need to npc traders. Steal.

    > how do you know what port to take to which harbour
Isn't it written on map? Not sure because of addons.

    > If you buy Vampire from the Crown Store
DON'T BUY! It's not hard to find somebody to bite you.

Armor will drop for you, it just might take some time.
You might want to leave Summerset and do a few dolmens (also called dark anchors) just for the sake of getting some armor and jewelry (necklace and two rings). Then when you have some armor, you can do other things.

The easiest areas in the game are: Stros M'Kai, Bleakrock and Khenarthi's Roost. (But there aren't any dolmens on any of those islands.) After those, the next easiest areas are Glenumbra, Stonefalls and Auridon. All of those have dolmens. If you go to Auridon, there are almost always some dolmen groups there which make farming the dolmens easy.

Please don't be worried that the game is a fifth over. The game is gigantic, larger than you know. You're not even 1/millionth of the way done with the game. :)

My advice would be to leave Summerset and go to your faction's starter zone. I know Summerset is new and pretty but trust me.

    >At level 10 I'm still wearing my level 1 boots as nothing has dropped and the game is already a fifth over.
You're a fifth of the way to level 50. Once you're 50, there are hundreds and hundreds of CP levels to go. The game is far from a fifth of the way over; you've only barely begun.

    >Anyway those traders sell level one armour with no stats at around 3 to 4k gold each.
Are you certain you're checking out guild traders? Their names show like: NPC Name, Guild Trader (Guild Name) and not NPC vendors, which have names such as NPC Name (Armorer)? Armorers/Woodworkers/Clothiers etc. will have stat-less, white armor/weapons, and their inventory levels up with you. Guild Traders will have whatever the guild members have put up for sale. (Also, on the map, Guild Trader locations are marked with an icon of a set of scales on a shield background. Regular traders have only the scale icon.)

    >Spending money on porting
Don't do this unless you have to. Run to a wayshrine and use it, it's free if you do that. Or port directly to your/a friend/a guildmate's house, as house ports are free.

Also keep in mind that if you're trying to follow a class guide, chances are it's an end-game guide that was built for someone at level 50 with hundreds of CP, and it's NOT a leveling guide unless it specifically details what to do as you're leveling. If it talks about gear and tells you what specific item you need for each slot, it's an end-game guide. You don't need fancy gear to level, and I speak from very recent experiecne. I picked the game back up a few months ago. I had some experience playing the game before, years ago, but I had no CP, so I was starting over as a fresh level 1. I think I might not have had more than 2 or 3 magical gear items before level 10, myself, that I gained from quest rewards, and might still have even been wearing 1 or 2 items I picked up in the tutorial, because I'd found no replacements yet.

You might consider finding a guild. They could probably help you with any questions you have, and probably crafted gear, too. Welcome to the game!

Thanks guys, are the Mundus Stones worth getting?
Every video has them as a must get but again travelling around is hard when you don't know how to get from A to B.
I play on PS4 so add-ons are out, I'm an older player so no not in a rush to finish the game tomorrow but I like to see some reward from progression.
I moved out of Summerset as I couldn't get past the Sload in the mind fight at level 10 and started up a Sorcerer in Morrowind for a change.
    I have ESO plus.
I tried 3 other characters to level 10 in Summerset to see the different specs so wasn't keen to do it again in the same place.
I'm enjoying the game, it's just the learning curve is a little steeper than I expected.

The learning curve is steep, but if you watch enough online you can really start to understand it and at some point and it clicks. Learning the light attack weave early on helps. I play when I have time which is mostly weekends and am only at cp 692 going about a year play time. I haven't worn training gear or really "grinded" out CP's Best piece of advice is just enjoy what you are doing at the time, there will always be something else. There is so much content and so much to do even a couple years or more into the game, not a bad investment (if you don't spend too much on crowns). If you are a PvE'er go try out PvP and spend just as much time there as you did leveling. I bought other games and still ended up solely playing this one. It's very fun.

Edit: yes definitely get a mundus stone, Take a look at https://elderscrollsonline.wiki.fextralife.com/Mundus+Stones to see the different ones and locations. (Assuming you are playing a mag sorc)If you are a more solo player try the lover mundus to help with your spell penetration. If playing with an optimized group, try the thief to increase your spell crit chance, or the apprentice to increase your spell damage (all depending on build and group gear setup)

One other thing regarding looking to purchase gear - at lvl 10 the armor is out of date very quickly as you lvl so fast. That and low level players don't typically have much money - never mind to spend on gear that is "old" so quickly. So, very few people sell low level gear in guild traders as it generally isn't worth the trouble. For now, put on whatever you find, craft if you can (but unless you focus on crafting you'll probably out level your crafting capability), or ask if people will help you out by crafting stuff (guilds are good for this). I'd offer to help you out, but I'm on PC.

You should use a mundus stone as it is a pure boost with no downsides - you just use one and stick with it until you decide you want something different (only one can be active at a time). Also, you should use food pretty much always, as it is a big boost. Provisioning is something that levels quickly, and then you should be able to always make your own food. Since you have ESO+ (craft bag), loot every crate, barrel, backpack, and urn (etc.) you find so that you'll get recipes and the ingredients needed to make stuff. Without the the craft bag this can be a lot of stuff, which is more challenging to manage with just the inventory and bank.

Look for "Navigator," NPCs. You can find them in most zones. They'll let you travel around the original base game maps with fixed patterns based on the original sequence of the zones. They are:

Stonefalls <-> Deshaan <-> Shadowfen <-> Eastmarch <-> The Rift
    Auridon <-> Grahtwood <-> Greenshade <-> Malbal Tor <-> Reaper's March
    Glenumbra <-> Stormhaven <-> Rivenspire <-> Alik'r <-> Bangkorai

On the "grid" above, you can travel forward or backward (this loops around, so The Rift connects to Stonefalls, for example), and you can move to the equivalent zones in the other two alliances.

So, for example, the Rivenspire navigator will take you to Stormhaven, Alik'r, Greenshade, or Shadowfen.

There are also, often, specific connecting ferries, such as one that will take you from Wayrest in Stormhaven to the Alik'r.

Well, you will get that. It sounds like you've just had bad luck on your feet drops.

If you're having issues, I would strongly recommend tackling base game content first. You should get a quest to meet a benefactor the first time you step foot in one of the 15 zones mentioned above. Follow that quest to its conclusion, and you'll get sent to the original, extended tutorial zones to find your legs.

Yeah, there is a lot to take in. Like I said, I'd recommend running the original main quest first, and easing yourself in that way.

Number one join a guild or two so u can open the wayshires and travel around for free. You click on someones name in the guild roster and travel to player. Its free.

Your not any where close to one fifth thru the game and ore lvling for that matter.

Armor does drop plenty. U will get a piece or weapon from quests. Start in a starter zone like stor maki
Training gear drops there so it helps get started

Look dude. Don’t buy armor at level 10. You’ll outgrow it to fast. Wear whatever trash you can find. Until you are level 50 with 160 Championship points wearing 2 five piece sets and a 2 piece monster set, you’ll just have to wear trash.

DO NOT spend money traveling places. AT ALL. Port from one Wayshrine to the next. Join a guild. They’ll probably be all nerds so don’t ROLL with them. lol. Just see where they are in the guild’s roster and travel to them. That way you can port to other areas. Travel around and discover other wayshrines.

I don’t know how Vampire works purchased from crowns but if you are bitten in game it’s character bound.

Google “dolmens” and do a few like the dolmen circuit in Auridon. You can pick up jewelry and a little money that way to get started.

It’s tough. But hang in there. It gets better. You’re not a Fifth of the way through the game because level fifty is like NOT the end at all. Hardly even the beginning. Level 50, 750 CP is max CP. goof luck.

One thing though, if I'm stuck on a quest at level 10 and go back to it at say level 20 am I going to smash it out or will it scale to my level?
For my Sorc I'll grab a Lover Mundus I think it is I'll just have to work out a travel plan.

I gotta say this thread explains very well why so many people drop ESO..

Zos focus so hard on end game content while their starter zones die off, loot is non existent and money is a nightmare.. Takes months to learn crafting.. Loot drops can be insanely random i got to level 20 without ever seeing a restoration staff or an axe...

Trading is non existent as a new customer can't join guilds because they force unfair restrictions on people.. Can't buy anything from shops as its all junk..

The curve to start this game and enjoy ESO is too high and frustrating..

If you don't have addons you'll want a reliable website for info such as the ESO wiki.

Here's a link to the list of Mundus stones, what they do and where to find them with maps:

    https://elderscrollsonline.wiki.fextralife.com/Mundus+Stones

For low level players the 3 most useful are found in the second alliance zones. The Tower for Stamina builds, or the Mage for magicka. If for some reason you decide to build a tank first (don't :) ) the Lord is also in the same zone.

The easiest way to gear up is by finding and picking the locks on chests. The noobie islands near the shore are all good for that especially Khenarthi's Roost.

As stated above me, everything in the world- you included- are scaled up to level 50 CP 160. This means you will never outlevel anything. HOWEVER, that doesn't mean leveling doesn't help! Levels get you skillpoints which allow you to unlock new skills, and that can be helpful indeed.

    Good luck!

Maybe on PC it's easy to find someone who will give Blood Ritual but not in PS4.
I'll try again tonight but didn't want to flood chat today.
I kept at it over for a couple of hours but nothing.
So might have to buy some crowns to get it.
I read there's something about a 6 hour duration using it , can you ever just lose the ability and you have to go through a process to get it back?
I'd hate to spend money on something that's going to be a constant upkeep that I may lose completely if I don't remember to use it, is it something that will be always there through playing?

You don't really need constant upkeep for it. Most people just stay a stage four. Though this is harder for different levels of players. If you find fire be to troublesome then drink bloody mara or use a fire restiences glyph.

    First just breath,

The game should be taken in paces. Explore the world and enjoy your character first. Now if you want to focus some then certain quests will drop gear you might want. You can also find gear from world bosses, public dungeons bosses, dolmens or just regular mobs.

Now to get better handle on game, I suggest joining a guild. These people can craft you gear and give you support along your journey. Also here is biggest tip, you can use the guild roster to port to different player locations have it fill your map. If nothing else ask them for help and they can group have you port to them. Well, maybe you just not feeling guilds then simply trying asking in zone for help getting to a location. Do the same for other questions. Eventually things will start to click all. Though before all is said and done, you have my best wishes as you start your journey and tale. Hope we get to hear more of your tale and adventures soon.

Thanks again guys, last question for now, I've watched/read a few levelling guides for Sorc which is what I'm trying now.
Melee and be struggle a bit.
Anyway I got the Lover Mundus Stone but then saw the Apprentice and there was one more that I can't remember.
As a Magicka Sorc I thought the Lover was the way to go, am I on the right track there?
Lastly potions , drinks and food always crack a mention.
Can these be bought from a general dealer, a specific dealer or just craftable?
The bloody mara sounds handy in vampire stage plus anything that will help with Magicka or survibility can't be bad.
Lastly, if I morph a spell then decide it's the wrong one is there anyway to go back and change it?

I got stuck on the sload at about level 10 so went off to do other things. Came back level 15 and still no chance. I had just joined a guild, so I asked for help in there and some popped along straight away, grouped with me, smashed the thing in 30 seconds and waved goodbye, to let me carry on questing alone. A very lovely first impression of the social aspect of the game. They've also helped me with a few crafting bits, and helping me open up wayshrines in other zones as well as finding skyshards.

    Join a guild!

First here is an invite to Sorc Discord https://discord.gg/2CDZaqQ

Food recipes can be bought in npc vendor such chef and provisioner but only green ones. You can be rewarded blue or purple recipes by doing daily crafting writs. Now on other hand a lot these can be bought at realative cheap prices from 100 + gold and onwards. Though early on might just be good to by some food that scales to level such as witch mothers or even bloody mara

Going back a bit stamina or magicka Sorc? Might really enjoy Magicka it's very solo friendly. Just grab you some pets and enjoy the world. I suggest letting first 50 levels to exploy your character and world. If things don't work out there's shrines in capital cities such a elden root that you can Respec for fair prices of 50g per skill point or attribute. This game gives you a lot of freedom so enjoy that.

    P.S Good places to shop

Repears March : Rawkla ( also good place to sell in zone.

    Craglorn: belkrath

    Desgan: mourhold

Also can use tamerial trade center website to get price checks for console. If PC there's master merchant, nirn auction house and deadric trade too.

Thanks mate, very hesitant about guilds after some bad experiences over the years in WoW.
I took the invitation for Discord so hopefully I'll learn something.
Seems like a good source for info.
The right choice of spells and thier morph is still a bit cloudy.
You look at the different YouTube vids and read the guides and everyone's is completely different so it's hard to gauge what is good and bad.
I do like the morph concept though.
So the ability to change a bad decision is good I'll have to see if I can find a shrine.
I'll be honest a lot of people have been great here mentioning locations for different things but outside of Summerset and now Morrowind I have no idea where anything is.
So I'm a little limited with that stuff.
Magicka is what I'm using not a stam build on my Sorc, I'll grab some potions especially if I can get into vampirism to help out.
I'll try tonight to try and get bitten otherwise I'll just use the crown's I have and buy it.

The game can be confusing if you're just starting now. It's a byproduct of the great freedom you have to go anywhere and do anything once they added level scaling.

In the old days things were more limited and guided but with that also came less confusion.

You can still do it the old way though if you want: just go to the starter city for your alliance which is Daggerfall for the Daggerfall Covenant, Vulkhel Guard for the Aldmeri Dominion and Davon's Watch for the Ebonheart Pact. The wayshrine for those places are unlocked automatically when you started the game so just go to the closest wayshrine and port to the appropriate one for your alliance.

As soon as you get there you'll be approached by a hooded figure directing you to a "benefactor" who wants to see you. Follow that quest line and this will start the game for you in the old proper order and everything will make more sense. Follow that quest chain for as long or short as you want. Once you get the hang of things, by all means go anywhere you want.

You also have a level-up advisor in the game that gives you 5 build choices and tells you what skills to pick next and which morphs to use. Ignore the default basic one as it is way too basic. If you're a Magicka sorcerer choose the level-up advisor for sorcererer magicka damage dealer.

BTW... this is a very good beginner guide: https://alcasthq.com/eso-new-player-beginner-guide/

https://tamrielfoundry.com/articles/general-tips-for-new-or-returning-players/ is now ancient, so many of the specifics are out of date. Still, it covers some points that aren't necessarily in other beginner guides, so you might find it helpful.

If you join a guiild -- or even if you don't -- somebody will probably be willing to craft you decent gear either entirely for free, or just for the cost of materials.

DEFINITELY get your hands on some food. Blue magicka/health food is ideal, if you're playing a magicka sorcerer.

Rivenspire is one of the best zones in the game. Also, gear that drops there -- Necropotence -- is best in slot for sorcerers. Quest there at length at some point. Fortunately, the story there doesn't depend much upon the prequels, so you can start whenever you choose.

Deshaan has an above-average story. Plus you get to meet Almalexia. The light armor set that drops there, Mother's Sorrow, is pretty decent. The dolmens, where you get most of the set jewelry drops, are also pretty accessible, although not up to the gold-standard of dolmen convenience, namely the Alik'r Desert.

If you spend an hour cycling through the three dolmens in the Alik'r Desert, you'll go up some levels and probably have a matched set of magicka-oriented jewelry (ignore the Vampire name the set has). You'll also level up a lot in the Fighter's Guild quest line ... which reminds me -- join the Fighter's Guild NOW, just so that you can gain experience in it as you go about whatever activities you would have done anyway.

If you're on ps4 na and are still looking for a vampire bite, I can do that for you after I get home from work tonight, absolutely free. (I get off of work and will be on about 6:30 p.m. central) I can port you to a few way shrines and take you to some mundas stones as well.
Message me your psn name here and we'll get you sorted out, if you haven't done so already.
Don't buy from the crown store. You may not like the draw backs from vampire (25% extra fire damage) and I'd hate to see anyone spend money on something they may not like.

Thank you mate, awesome info yet again.
I'll go to Rivenspire for a look, I don't know where it is but I'll find it, I already have the Fighters and Mage guilds so all good there.
Someone else mentioned Dolmens, I don't know what they are.
A small group instance or is it one of those open area world events where anyone can join?
One last question about vampirism if you buy it, if I decide I don't want it I know I can have it removed but is it gone from my account for that character as well permanently?
Because if I decide later on I want again do I have to repurchase it or its still there to be used?

I’ve just levelled a second character, I basically did every quest in each area before moving on, also leaving the main and guild quests till I was level 50. It took 3 full areas to get to level 50 about 45 hours plus I’ve also grabbed skill books from other areas, and a bit of cyrodil for the caltrops.

I’ve enjoyed the game itself a lot more doing it this way, it has so much to offer.

They look like swirls on the map. If you are close you will see an actor come from out of the sky or hear special music.

I've done a couple of those in Summerset, they have the purple stream of light coming down to the location where it is and everything attacks in waves until you get the final boss.
Kill him and you get a shell with treasure in it, that's what was meant right?
I also read once you morph an ability/spell take it of your bar and replace it with another in the same skill tree to level up the new spell and the ability itself.
But what if you're happy with the morphed ability you have and you replace it with something crappy to level up?
What I was looking at doing was seeing what end specs had spell wise and morph spells whilst leveling to get those ones.
