Summset as a high elf character and the effects of race

Man, can I just say I really love how some npcs treat you differently when youre a high elf in summerset

Or even your lines!
One quest has you looking into a high elf custom and when you ask about it the line mentions something along the lines of 'can you remind me? i forgot our customs'

I hope future chapters have the same. Does morrowind have any for dark elves?

I loved summerset cos of this ... My characters all have back stories ... My main a high elf Templar was kidnapped as a child by nords she was eventually freed and married a Nord she has a Nord name but now she's being called back to AD where she belongs and her husband a Nord Templar is now looking for her ... But summerset really brought the back story to life due how the NPC's react to her

Yeah I love when NPCs acknowledge your race etc, I remember I had a quest where someone wanted me to do something with getting rid of a vampire or something ( I forget ) and one of the lines was "I am a vampire"

I suggest putting spoiler in the title.

This has only been out for a few weeks and some may have yet to do this on a high elf or one of their non high elves. Generally we mark possible spoilers for such an occasion.

Um, EXACTLY what is this spoiling? The fact that some quests change dialogue based on your race? That isn't a spoiler at all, and nothing in this thread amounts to spoiling anything.

It's certainly been interesting running through as a Khajiit so far. Have been on the receiving end of the racism or the whole "you're impressive... you know, for a lesser race" sort of thing.

Also enjoyed a quest where someone recognizes that you're a werewolf (what can I say? I like the cat-dog dynamic of a Khajiit werewolf)

It's a quest at Lillandril called Murder In Lillandril. It was a neat quest and I was shocked I actually got to comment on the fact that I'm a vampire.

Anyway, I absolutely adore all the small touches with Summerset. Depending on what you've done a lot of characters will remember you and comment about it. That makes me ridiculously happy and heightened my enjoyment overall. It's a great expansion and I loved the main quest. I am looking forward to doing it on a non High Elf to see the difference.

I recall there being some slight dialogue differences on Bleakrock when you talk to the captain there asking about the different pact races. If you ask about the same race as you she comments it's strange you don't know about your own kind. There are little instances like this all throughout the game. I am glad they give your characters unique dialogue based on their race though. And that some characters notice you're a vampire or werewolf.

I like that our characters are acknowledged sometimes for what they are. Wish it happened more often.

It was annoying when running a Vampire based quest a while back that they were going on and on about don't be afraid, they're not evil, they won't kill me, etc, and I'm standing right there with pale skin and blood red eyes. I mean really? I'm one of YOU! Are you blind? You actually can't tell? Ugh.

Yes I have noticed the differences in dialogue second time through, first time was as an Altmer, now as a Redguard many people are condescending, sneering or even hostile and calling me an outsider. Even the bankers have different dialogue.

Yes, you start off explaining it perfectly then you seemed to not understand what a spoiler is.

Some like the dialogue and will like that changes. That is why this is a spoiler. Plain and simple. Sorry to mess up your little party with simple fact. It really does not take much effort to add that to the title, but I understand some really do not care about giving out spoilers.

Not sure about quests, but at least some Silt Strider Caravaners have a special monologue line for your dunmer character in style "So glad to see a Dark Elf face after all those foreigners".

I just smile when an Altmer gets all snooty and superior toward my Breton, for I know that, in the centuries ahead, the Altmer will become the epitome of evil in Tamriel as their descendants raise the banner of the Altmer Third Reich and kill over and over again in the Reich's, oops, I mean Thalmor's name. Heck, they put the Empire to shame — well, until we find out in ES6 that the Empire and its allies sent the Altmer scurrying back to Summerset with their tails between their legs.

In general I think they did well with this, although I remember one or two cases where you either have to cut the conversation short or else end up asking stupid questions / making remarks which single you out as being "different" even when playing an Altmer.

    I think one was when
you tell a woman that her husband was a vampire and took his own life
and eventually your only dialogue option is something like "that seems cold" when she seems more worried about her family reputation. Would have been nice to get some option for an Altmer PC to show understanding of her point of view.

Indeed, sometimes the subtle details are what make the game. It's great for immersion

There are only a handful of instances in the game that respond this way. In most cases, the NPC's are oblivious.
(There's a delve quest in TG regarding vamps and a vampire hunter as well.)

Hmm, I need to do Summerset on my Dunmer NB, then... I race-changed from Khajiit, and the game still thinks the character is a Khajiit (at least in terms of crafting — I haven’t learned any racial motifs on that character, and can only craft in the Khajiit style). It would be hilarious to hear an Altmer calling a Dunmer a “lesser race.” :D Not out of step for an Altmer, of course, but given that Dunmer clearly believe that they are the master race, it would just be amusing.

It's not just Altmers getting special love. As a Bosmer, I get special dialogue as well because of our "situation" being outsiders.

    It has been refreshing.

I will definitely be pulling my Altmer out of retirement to do Summerset.

I enjoyes the little touches like the Bosmer stablehand in Shimmerene. To my high elf, he was so self-effacing and over the top humble that it made my Altmer a little uncomfortable, to my Breton, he was like "those stuck up high elves might want to double check their saddles, if you know what I mean."

Morrowind definitely has different lines for Khajiits. Also, Abah's Landing and Golden Coast have different lines for Khajiits too. I really find this tiny detail very enjoyable, and it makes a second or a third walkthrough ever so slightly more interesting

I enjoyed going into Archon's Grove as a werewolf. If you start the quest just outside, it plays into how the NPCs react to you in much the same way. Wolves recognize their own kind.
