Maintenance for the week of April 6:
• PC/Mac: No maintenance – April 6

I came back to discover the same nightmare I left... You've outdone yourself ZOS.

I bought the pre-ordered Imperial Gold Edition back at Launch, but I left due to ZOS's BS (most of which I can't remember now; saying no race paywall, making paywall for Imperials, taking months and months to fix the bots, and just generally *** service for a subscription game among other things).

But 3-4 years later I decided to buy the steam game because I've heard good things and it was half price.

And I come back to this... I can't even log in from steam as I get the "login timed out" message... The "workaround" requires I log in to the site via steam... But I get a message saying I don't own the game when I do that... despite owning the game...

Will I be able to login to my old account via steam and use my stuff I have left over? All the crowns I should have stored up from the various changes?
Who knows... not me, because the management of this game looks like the same crappy situation I left 3-4 years ago...

Is this a joke ZOS?

On the performance side of the game you gotta really hand it to ZOS; I don't think any company could do such a job as we count down to the 5 year mark.

Wow, you have impressively terrible luck, to buy a new edition just perfectly timed & arranged to hit a service problem. Grats!

(btw, why did you buy a new version on Steam? If you have your old account details, couldn't you just redownload from the website? I think the Steam purchased copy would be a new account, so...... :| )

edit: meanwhile, I'll just continue to play along on PC NA, non-Steam version. No login/lag/etc problems there. Of course, I don't pvp in Cyro. I hear that has issues no matter what platform you're using.

You gotta read those reviews on Steam before you buy man. Pretty much ever negative review on there says "Don't buy this game on Steam" I would absolutely get a refund from Stream real quick and just get it directly... much fewer issues

Edit: said "less" instead of "fewer"

Well the joke is, you bought the game twice. How is that Zenimax's fault? After all you could have just used your orignal account to see how the game was without buying it twice.

Sounds like an issue with Steam, I can login fine, and so can many other people, why you blaming ZOS?

I'm quite aware of that... Thanks for the clarification, not really a joke when done on purpose...

I bought it through Steam, As I'm a big Steam user, like having my game library on Steam and $10 is nothing.

It's ZOSs game, Steam does not make alterations to the game, it's all on ZOS to make the game functional with the platform they decided to sell it on after everyone had bought the normal version telling us it was not going to be on Steam...
It is 100% a ZOS issue, as every other developer on the plant can crap out an asset flip and make it work on Steam just fine.

ESO launcher through Steam——> Steam server first ——-> ESO server

ESO launcher without Steam —-> directly to ESO server

If you are timing out between the log-in screen and character selection screen(I have found this happens the first login after an update about 30% of the time for me) simply click anywhere on the loading screen...it doesn't actually do anything, but it provides input to the game so it doesn't think you are inactive and log you out. I just make sure to do this every login directly after an update.

The ironic thing is folks are saying it's a Zenimax thing.

Meanwhile every steam game I have that has an online component is lagging like hell, yet none of my non-steam games including ESO are.

    Yeah that's a logical conclusion.

"Civilized men are more discourteous than savages because they know they can be impolite without having their skulls split, as a general thing.”

I know how software works, I am a software engineer. Steam doesn't need to make alterations to the game to have issues, they use their own API's for authentication and such. If you can't authenticate through Steam, it is an issue with Steam, regardless of if ZOS made a change or not. Games will have updates, that's how things work.

Good luck trying to get that through the the *** ZOS crowd. Somehow logic eludes them. My game works fine, the steam version does not, but somehow it's not on steam's end because someone can play skyrim through steam. Apparently it's up to ZOS to update steam's crap, and make sure their system isn't being stupid.
