The thing about metal nodes with Summerset

Like everyone else, I've been frantically farming jewellery dust in the past two weeks. There has been some competition - people racing each other (I'm a little guilty of this, but my main doesn't have much stam, so...). Time and time again, I see these players bypassing metal nodes and only collecting the jewellery dust nodes.
The thing with this is, both share the same node spawns. If you pick up the Rubedite and stand there a couple of minutes, it may respawn as a jewellery node, or of course it may respawn as a Rubedite node. Okay, I get that people are farming dust to make gold, primarily, but if you pick up the metal nodes as well you get a lot of refinable metal that can generate Alloy. And if you do happen to be farming in a place at a quiet time, if you do another round you'll find jewellery nodes on some of the spawns. What's not to like?

Same goes for the Rune nodes, which can generate the Psijic Portals - though I know those aren't quite as lucrative as Jewellery dust. I've gotten a few Infused pieces and one Hakeijo so far, and I've found a lot of the portals.

Most people are not forward thinkers and only want it now. I personally do exactly what you talk about and pick up everything along the way.

I think most understand they share the same nodes. Yea, some might be slow learning but not most.

However, some just want to grab the jewelry seam and are not concerned about the respawn. This thread will not change their mind.

But, the thing with that is ... some players are greedy.

They’ll go to the dust nodes regardless of whether they’ve been made aware of how the node mechanics work or not.

Dood yes. Harvest the frackin' nodes people so they can respawn. Common flipping courtesy.

I pick up all nodes because it's all worth picking up.

Does anyone know if everyone sees the same node spawns though? I have seen players obviously gathering for seams but sometimes they run straight past a seam & I was wondering if maybe they see a metal node while I see a jewelry seam?

entirely possible their farming toon is not max level on crafting, so the best you can make/best you can wear mechanic kicks in and where you see a platinum seam, they see a (to them) worthless pewter seam

Well remember if you are on a cp 160+ toon that is not a crafter that ore might look like iron, and alot of people just ignore the first tier stuff. So its crazy but a lvl 50 CP 160 can see a node that would be iron, pewter, rubetite or platinum. So while you can see them ignoring the bright red rubetite it may not be as noticable to them depending on their lvl, I know i never use the keen eye skills anymore, as many nodes are seen way before that even kicks in, but at night ebony nodes are super hard to see, perhaps thats what they are spawning.
    Ummm stuff… about stuff…or something.

This explains why I see about 100 Rubedite nodes for every one Platinum.

This. If you're bypassing nodes, you're leaving a *** ton of gold on the table. You can easily make 100k+/hour if you pick up everything. If all you do is pick up jewellery nodes, you won't even see a fraction of that.

One thing I've been curious about since I bought summerset last week is are there only nodes in summerset, or are there nodes everywhere now? If it's just summerset, that is a horribly stupid idea, everyone with the expansion farming in one spot.

    They're everywhere.

Ditto for the Psijic Portals that spawn over runestones. (ran across four of those in a row while doing a Vvardenfel daily. Yay, RNG!)

What I have observed is that most who I see cherry picking the seams, also appear to be bots running a pattern. I know nothing of how their bot program works but been wondering if it limits what they pick up.

You don't even need Summerset to gather the JC nodes
This explains why I see about 100 Rubedite nodes for every one Platinum.

Yeah, if you go during off hours to a starter zone, pick a corner that is dead, and start mining all the metal and JC nodes, after a rotation or 2 you'll see it's a bout a 60/40 split. But that number starts to drop significantly when people just run around and cherry pick the JC nodes.

This frustrates me to an extent. I mine everything I see and getting those JC nodes instead of the ones I needed for my writs was testing my patience on even doing writs right now. I don't have Summerset and I won't be getting it for a while, I shouldn't be getting the nodes for something I have no access to nor any desire to sell in chat/trader. It'd give people incentive to get the chapter and would at least help those that are auctioneers maintain their high prices a little longer.

Okay, good to know. I would also like to add in that I gather all cloth, or, and wood, and now JC materials I see in the world. I mean, refining them has a chance for gold upgrade mats, and i do a lot of writs, so it's best to keep up the stockpile.

Even worst are the people leaving furnisher materials in the node so they don't respawn.

Good to know my "pick up every node I walk past, even if its stuff I already have a ton of" policy is helping! ;)

Yeah, or back at launch, the worms in plant nodes. Not that fishers complained, but many others did.

Still wish interacting with a node would not go like opening a container, but deposit all the node contents in your inventory/CB and then despawn the node, to keep that from happening... (and if you don't have the space, something is just lost)

I think they changed it so that nodes respawn the same if any item is taken from them or all items are taken, so the worms or furnisher materials aren’t really a problem anymore. But AFAIK the completely untouched Rubedite nodes will stay forever and no jewelry nodes will spawn there. Hopefully farmers and botters will soon realize that taking Rubedite helps them because it causes JC materials to spawn.

There is a timer that starts when a node is opened until it despawns, then it starts a timer until the next respawn.

Clean the whole node then it skips the first timer and goes to the respawn timer so it is faster.

It think you are on to something. I finally got around to doing all the surveys I had accumulated (around 200) over the weekend. Usually, when I do surveys, I will try and pick up mats I see along the way for obvious reasons. I also find that I typically end up with about the same amount of raw mats of each type (half each of cloth/leather). This time around I had about 1200 more Rubedite than the rest. I felt like they were freaking everything. I never thought about the shared spawns, but if people are simply leaving them there and just searching for platinum, they are doing themselves a disservice i think.
