They really need to just give the option of bypassing steam,

This happens every week for hours at the time! its just not okay.

I dont play over Steam (similar problems in another game in the past) but i am totally with you. Unlinking ESO from Steam or at least a provisionally alternative login without steam (and if needed without Crownstore-Access to prevent problems) here is a must...

Steam is very convenient for buying crowns and apply subscription.

My account was created during the beta in 2014.

Only bought the game through Steam back in february.

Can't login through non steam launcher.

Bought the game on steam, because quite frankly I already had a lot of games there, easier to keep track. Worst decision ever when it comes to buying games. I mean every time I consider ESO+ (though I am fairly new to the game, only about 4 months) something like this happens and again and again I decide that it's not worth it with the troubles and vague error messages.

Alternative method to log in isn't really that much to ask.

I get ESO+ for the first time coz i got an accident and so plenty of time to spend on my computer.

Wasn't expected how much my gaming would been improved by the ESO+

But in the main time, the steam problem occur, and now i thinki will not repay , and 'im glad i think to pay only one month.

    Good job Zenimax.

I avoid steam for anything wherever possible.

The only reason to EVER have an account linked to Steam is because some fool game company is requiring it for their given product.

Why would anyone voluntarily make their account with 'company X' beholden to the random whims and fortunes of 'company Y' as well?

Can you imagine buying a new car and signing all the financing with the bank... then going outside and randomly picking some guy named Vinny from the bar on the corner and signing an agreement with him to hold onto your keys... just because he has cool shades on?

    Like... why?

We are not beggars. We bought a game and possibly subscriptions and QOL items etc. and are paying customers!

Now here's two companies: Zenimax and Valve.
They decide it would be beneficial to distribute ESO and it's services both ways to draw in more potential gamers and up not only the popularity of the product itself but also and foremost to increase their revenue stream. Win - Win ! Right?!

So how is it, that it turns out to be a Lose - Lose for part of their customers?!

I really do not and should not have to care about which of the two companies are responsible for the incompatibilities caused by them merging services and on top of it suffer each and every time this happens to be called a dumba$$ because I bought my service this way and not the other.

THEY made this deal! THEY have to find a solution and if the conclusion is that the launcher problems just cannot be solved reliably a possibility needs to be there to give their paying customers an alternative method to log in. Regardless, of when or where they layed their RL money down to invest in this game!

And NO, to just post the same generic red banner that is wrong on so many levels doesn't cut it! :/

Always read the reviews. That's how I found out problem with Steam.
Yeah, well, when I bought via Steam in the last days of November 2016 there were no issues with Steam (other than the fact of it existing and being used by so many game companies, but that's another point) anyone could have reviewed. So reading didn't help. ;)

I was reading one of the player review on steam about ESO. Basically that guy was bitching about problems playing eso through steam.

When I decided to try this game it was on the recommendation of a friend who told me I had to buy it through Steam. If I had known that I could buy it without Steam I would have. I loathe Steam. I buy video games less often than once every two years, I have zero use for Steam functionality. I deeply resent that a boxed game that I was given as a gift (Rocksmith) just downloaded Steam and demanded I use it to download the game when I put in the CD. Steam has always pissed me off. So I didn't like that part of it to begin with, but I wanted to play ESO with my friend and I took it at face value that I could not get it any other way. Moral of this story--ALWAYS look for the non-Steam option. I will never buy a game from Steam again.

Err well I hate steam for a large number of reasons but its also half the price as buying the game in store plus sales which reduces the price even more.

I am not going to pay $68 for Summerset when I could pay $40.... or wait for it to be $20 in a few months when it goes on sale. :/ (In AUD)

the problem with that web assistant is, even if a steam user is logged in already, it logs you out and then does not offer an option to log in thru steam. so any linked steam account cannot use that web assistant to request a de-linking...

You would have to understand the problem before you can place blame. Here is a simple test to see if you understand what is happening. Open browser/type:Game is offline again, who is responsible? Now that should for just about every online game, producer, server, clients etc.etc. Sony at one point had lost 77 million people at once. Every online game currently available to the public will go offline and it's a matter of hardware, technology, and the tremendous amount of information being squeezed through a very small copper wire. In the Electrical field cities will experience what's called "BROWNOUTS" The engineers try to reroute the loads to distribute what could become a catastrophic failure. New York knows what Im talking about.
Say you decide to drop Steam, even if Zos launched its on version of Steam, it's just gonna inherit the same problems Steam has. Technology and fixes are there, but it's The Wire running from your home to rest world that is the problem. That wire that feeds every internet connection is outdated, underrated.and it's the weak point in the whole community. After that its the host being able to handle all that information, even at its reduced rate. Name a online game that doesn't experience this as S.O.P. and I bet it's only got 100k or less players online at same time. A good habit to get into is Open Browser/Type the question or statement you wanting to make/ Read the background on the material so you can make a good argument.
p.s. Seriously search the web for how many games are dropped because Murphys Law.

Remember my friends had problems to login within the first days when they did the Steam merge.

Decided not to do this to have one extra layer that could cause problems when the servers were running fine but Steam had issues.

I like Steam in general but not when it isn't needed. Like Uplay :)
