I Don't Know If This Will Work

I haven't played the game in a couple months. Last I played I played as a DK with two-handed and absolutely hated it. It felt like I was running around aimlessly trying to get off a couple of hits on a target while my mage friends zapped away from a distance with ease. Keep in mind I'm a beginner so the odds that I just sucked as a DK are pretty high but I'm not totally sure. I watch a lot of videos and to me it seems like Sorc's are probably the easiest to play in PVP and PVE but I may be wrong given I don't have a lot of experience.

I want to play as a Imperial stamina templar with sword and board and bow as my secondary because I love the idea of being a roman soldier kind of character but I have no idea if this will turn out any good. I wondered if I could get some advice. I don't want to be running around barely getting hits off or sniping with a bow only to be attacked head on then killed two seconds later. I also don't want to be chasing others around in PVP while mages dash away quickly or just kill me form a distance.

I wanted some opinions because I know a lot of good two handed melee characters, I just find them very hard to play. Would a Sorc be an easier character to start off with or does it just take some getting used to for melee?

Just gonna give the pvp perspective here.

2h would be more effective for pvp, either sword-n-board/2h or 2h/bow. Also duel-wield is really good right now.

But you could make SnB/bow work by using the bow bar for DoTs and buffs and then using the Shield bar for a light attack->Puncture->bash combo. You want a class with easy access to major brutality (warden/stam sorcerer/DK) since you you need that buff and can't get it from SnB or bow.

It wouldn't be 100% tryhard optimal, but you could make a pretty functional build with sword-n-board/bow.

Yep, and in PvP you have powerful reflects on SnB that can help you surprise people, reflecting spells and sending a good Snipe together with them is very nice.

@Jimmy_The_Fixer @DoonerSeraph So if I was going to run this build in PVE as well would I want to roll as a tank or dps?

Tough question, in PVE you certainly dont want to run SnB as a DPS (theres a taunt there only useful for tanks), and you dont want to run Bow as a tank, the only thing it may be useful is to draw initial aggro with endless hail. I would swap SnB for dual wield if you want to DPS and double bar SnB if you wanna tank.
